Halfway at The Open Jul 18, 2025

Show notes

Friday night at The Open Championship and is this the time for Scottie Scheffler to claim the Claret Jug and his fourth major? Or can Matt Fitzpatrick add the Open to his US Open triumph? Or perhaps Brian Harman will do it again? And will Eddie notch up another top-10 in Germany in his comeback from injury? These and so many other questions are not really answered here as Andrew, Iain and - in some small way - Eddie combine to chat at the halfway stage of The Open Championship.

Wednesday at Portrush Jul 16, 2025

Show notes

Our first min-pod of Open Championship week which turns out to not be quite so mini. Andrew and Iain meet up on the first tee to have a chat and watch various golfers tee off in their final practice rounds before it all gets underway on Thursday. In the process of which they fail to identify Cameron Adam - Royal Burgess member, former Scottish Amateur champion and St Andrews Links winner. Feeling so ashamed they have decided to dedicate this pod to him. Iain also chats to US Open champion JJ Spaun and Bob McIntyre, who was of course runner-up to Spaun at Oakmont, but is perhaps better known as something of a mentor to Cameron Adam. Go well Cammy.

Show notes

Here we are then - Monday of Open Championship and Iain and Andrew are together (two desks apart) in the media centre at Portrush, while Eddie joins from the highest point of his house to look ahead to the greatest golf tournament of them all. First, though, there are reflections on a wondrous finish to the Evian Championship and another stellar performance from Lottie Woad, which is likely to be her last as an amateur. We round up the Scottish Open and consider the form shown by various leading lights and we hear from Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry ahead of the big show.

US OPEN REVIEW Jun 16, 2025

Show notes

This episode has been a US Open-style challenge. And we have shot somewhere in the mid-70s, only hoping to make up some ground on the field in episodes to come. Iain is in Oakmont, Eddie drops in briefly from France (at which point Laurie Canter also gives us his thoughts on his first US Open) and Andrew joins from semi-consciousness at about 2 in the morning. Iain and Andrew give the full review of JJ Spaun's remarkable victory, Bob McIntrye's near miss and they all chat about Rory and what lies ahead for him this year.

They also manage to wander through the formative history of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania, chat about the worrying dip in form for Rory McIlroy and pick their favourites for the third men's major of the season.

As Good as Tiger? Jun 02, 2025

Show notes

A clickbait title for you on another long episode, which we might stop apologising for - there’s no obligation to listen to all of it. In fact it’s simply a necessary length to cover Maja Stark’s debut major win at the US Women’s Open, while also asking if the consistency of excellence from Scottie Scheffler means that he might have a Tiger-like career. This and much more full-on golf chat is the meat in the middle of a rambling sandwich where we also touch upon Andrew’s TV quiz behaviour, Iain’s squirrel vaseline and Eddie’s inability to perform a basic bodily function.

Eddie's 10kg Weight Gain May 26, 2025

Show notes

In a disturbingly long episode, Eddie tells us about his new training and practise regime, while Iain and Andrew assess the performance of Ernie Els and Retief Goosen in the Oval Office. They also reflect on last week's tournaments and look ahead to the US Women's Open at Erin Hills before considering the British talent on show in the NCAAs. The pod then finishes in dramatic style as Iain tells a story about hitting a bunker shot.
