    The Chicagoland Guide explores how the Chicagoland area actually works, through conversations about housing, infrastructure, development, and the civic decisions shaping the region’s future.

    Hosted by Aaron Masliansky, a Chicago-area real estate advisor and urban planning graduate, the show features in-depth discussions with mayors, developers, policy leaders, business owners, and cultural institutions. Rather than surface-level neighborhood highlights, each episode examines the forces influencing growth, investment, and community life across Chicagoland.

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Lisa Degliantoni. Lisa is the Founder and Executive Director of Evanston Made, Founder and Curator of 1100 Florence and the Host and Producer of the Lisa D Show. Evanston Made is a membership-based organization whose mission it is to promote the art community in Evanston through mentorship and connecting buyers with artists. 1100 Florence is a former Polish meat shop turn art event space where Lisa lives. The Lisa D show is a podcast now Instagram Live show that showcases the artists of Evanston. Lisa is an art and media powerhouse.

    One of the main topics we discussed was the Evanston Arts Connects project. The plan is to art-bomb Evanston from May 9-June 9, 2020. The project aims to have artists create art and post in their windows, and there is a need for donation of art supplies. Inside the Skev is a partner in this project.

    Patrick Keenan-Devlin-Moran Center for Youth Advocacy May 11, 2020

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Patrick Keenan-Devlin. Keenan-Devlin is the Executive Director and Juvenile Justice Attorney for the Moran Center for Youth Advocacy in Evanston. In this episode we talk about the work they do, restorative justice and the effects of Covid-19 on the Center and justice work in general.

    Founded in 1976, the James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy provides low income Evanston youth and their families with integrated legal and social work services to improve their quality of life at home, at school, and within the Evanston community. Their goal is to provide Evanston youth and their families with the tools to make positive life choices, the support to successfully emerge from a challenging legal situation, and the ability to thrive as productive community members. To that end, our programmatic approach focuses on legal representation, social work services, youth advocacy, and restorative justice services.     Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky-U.S. Representative for Illinois' 9th District May 07, 2020

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Representative for Illinois’ 9th District, which include the Skev. In this episode we discuss the government’s response to Covid-19, the stimulus programs, and her work to protect nursing home employees and residents. We also discuss her story in getting into politics and her encouragement for more people to get involved.

    Schakowsky was elected to represent Illinois' 9th Congressional District in 1998, after serving for eight years in the Illinois State Assembly. She is in her eleventh term.

    Schakowsky serves in the House Democratic Leadership as a Senior Chief Deputy Whip. She is a member of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, House Budget Committee, as well as the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where she serves as Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, and as a member of the Environment and Oversight & Investigations Subcommittees.     Scott Rochelle-National Basketball Retired Players Association May 04, 2020

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Scott Rochelle, the President and CEO of the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) which is headquartered in Downtown Chicago. In his role as President and CEO, Rochelle oversees the Retired Players Association’s day-to-day operations, including securing new cutting-edge partnerships for former players to thrive and prosper. In addition, he continues to strengthen and foster the association’s local chapters which has expanded to 12 cities during his tenure as President and CEO. Scott is an Evanston resident and former ETHS school board member.

    Founded in 1992 by NBA Legends Dave DeBusschere, Dave Bing, Archie Clark, Dave Cowens and Oscar Robertson, the NBRPA is a non-profit association comprised of former professional basketball players of the NBA, ABA, WNBA, and Harlem Globetrotters. They are the only alumni association of its kind supported directly by the NBA and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The National Basketball Retired Players Association serves former professional basketball players, supporting them in life after their playing days, and helping them to leverage their inspirational influence to promote and teach basketball in their communities. SparkRaw helps entrepreneurs and businesses to "videolize" the buyer's journey to close the gaps between prospects, customers, and teams without losing their authenticity. They are video experience designers. We talk about Reavens’ journey from Taiwan, her struggles with explaining the value of her work to her family and having the bravery and dedication to become a huge success. SparkRaw has also been instrumental in helping Inside the Skev with the creation of the trailer video, the video of the MWRD O’Brien Facility and the interview of TM Garret.

    Michelle Friedman-Keshet and Institute for Therapy through the Arts Apr 23, 2020

Michelle speaks to many schools and students of her experience living with blindness. We also talk about how she and the disabled community are adapting to the world of Covid.     Nia Tavoularis-Connections for the Homeless Apr 17, 2020
    Show notes

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Nia Tavoularis. Nia the Director of Development for Connections for the Homeless. Connections is THE agency in the northern suburbs leading the effort to deliver essential services to people who are homeless and unstably housed during the COVID-19 pandemic. ​Connections for the Homeless partners with the community to provide comprehensive, compassionate, well-resourced, and effective programs in an exceptional workplace. They are the recognized as a leader on the causes of and solutions to homelessness in the northern suburbs. This episode can be watched on Youtube or listened to on any podcast app or Skevanston.com

    Connections for the Homeless has responded in a massive way to the Coronavirus with the following accomplishments:

    • Launched the only emergency shelter for 20 individual adults in the region that follows CDC recommendations and operates 24/7;
    • Moved 148 adults and 41 children into discounted rooms at 2 local hotels with 24-hour Connections staff support;
    • Established partnerships with local restaurants to purchase 3 meals a day for each person, a total of over 500 meals daily, sheltering at a hotel;
    • Maintained daily drop-in services to provide the community with access to food, basic supplies, showers, and case management. There were more than 400 visits to the drop-in center in March with food pantry visits doubling following the shelter-in-place order; and
    • Continued to support the 180 people in our 90 units of housing scattered throughout the community by purchasing and delivering vital food and supplies to ensure they can stay in place.

    Shana Erenberg-Libenu Apr 12, 2020

    This week, on Inside the Skev, we sit down with Shana Erenberg. Shana is the co-founder and Executive Director of Libenu. Libenu’s mission is to provide residential, vocational, and respite opportunities for people with disabilities to live with dignity and respect, as fully included members of the community.

    Libenu is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization comprised of parents and professionals working together to address the needs of Jewish adults and children with disabilities in the Metropolitan Chicago area and based in Skokie. The group was formed in response to the shortage of available services relative to the significant and immediate needs of the population. Libenu helps provide housing to young adults in addition to providing social services.

    This episode was recorded prior to the Coronavirus pandemic reaching the United States, but one can only imagine how critical Libenu is to be helping their residents remain safe and helping serve their needs during this time.

    Shalom Klein-Get Down to Business Apr 05, 2020

    -Principal and Senior Consultant for Get Down to Business with Shalom Klein which includes his radio show and book.

    -Chairman of the Village of Skokie Economic Development Commission

    Shalom also ran Jewish B2B Networking for several years in which he helped connect thousands of people with jobs.
