There's almost nobody better person equipped to talk about building multiple sources of income than my dear friend Chris Guillebeau.

During a lifetime of self-employment that included a four-year commitment as a volunteer executive in West Africa, Chris visited every country in the world (193 in total) before his 35th birthday. Since then he has modeled the proven definition of an entrepreneur: "Someone who will work 24 hours a day for themselves to avoid working one hour a day for someone else."

He's featured more than 850 different side hustle businesses on his daily podcast called Side Hustle School and is downloaded more than 2 million times a month. He's written several bestselling books, including The Art of Non-Conformity, The $100 Startup, Born For This, 100 Side Hustles and now his latest book: The Money Tree.

Today's conversation is all about finding fortune in our own backyards, including including topics dealing with student loans, a new model of earning extra income, and cultivating empowerment during uncertain economic times.

Being Underestimated is Your Greatest Advantage with Arlan Hamilton Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

Your time is now. Amidst the crazy, the unprecedented, the chaos - being underestimated is your greatest advantage. As Arlan Hamilton frames it: a privileged background, an influential network, and a fancy college degree are not prerequisites for success. She inspires us all to defy other people's expectations and to become the role models we've been looking for.

Arlan joined me live on a special episode CreativeLive TV to share her hard-won wisdom and newly released book It's About Damn Time: How to Turn Being Underestimated into Your Greatest Advantage.

If you're not familiar with Arlan's work, let me catch you up. Arlan Hamilton built a venture capital fund from the ground up, while homeless. She is the Founder and Managing Partner of Backstage Capital, a fund that is dedicated to minimizing funding disparities in tech by investing in high-potential founders who are people of color, women, and/or LGBT. Started from scratch in 2015, Backstage has now raised more than $10 million and invested in more than 130 startup companies led by underestimated founders. In 2018 Arlan co-founded Backstage Studio which launched four accelerator programs for underestimated founders in Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and London.

    In this episode,

    * a framework to turn being underestimated into an advantage, including finding & using your voice, overcoming fear, and being yourself

    * pursuing your dreams during difficult times

    * why your voice and your ideas could not be more important

    * and much more

Citizen Cope: Personal Growth and Understanding May 27, 2020
    Show notes

Clarence Greenwood, aka Citizen Cope, is a renowned singer, songwriter and producer. He has built an entire career on trusting his gut and following his muse, and if his new album, 'Heroin & Helicopters,' is any indication, his instincts are sharper now than ever before. The success of his music has always been a slow burn, rather than a flash in the pan. His single "Let The Drummer Kick" went Platinum without any support from commercial radio. The Washington Post called him "DC's finest export since Marvin Gage" and Rolling Stone raved that his "uncommon chords and harmonies combine delicate dissonance with unexpected flash of beauty".

Of course we hoped to catch him on tour for his brand new album but of course in these unprecedented times, those plans changed. Undeterred Cope joins us from his living room for a conversation about resilience, art & creativity during difficult times, and fatherhood. He also shares with us a few tracks off his latest album and a couple fan favorites too.

Seven years in the making, his latest album 'Heroin & Helicopters' now available for purchase & streaming at major music retailers.

Get Moving with Dr. Kelly Starrett May 18, 2020
    Show notes

We all know that a key element to health is exercise but these days many of us are cooped up at home. So I went to one of the leaders in physical health to chat about what we can do during this time.

Dr. Kelly Starrett works with professional athletes, Olympic teams, universities, and elite military. He is the New York Times bestselling author of Becoming a Supple Leopard and Ready to Run. He is a featured speaker at strength and conditioning conferences worldwide, and the co-founder of San Francisco CrossFit and The Ready State.

Kelly joined me on CreativeLive TV, LIVE from our respective living rooms. When I came into the session I thought maybe we'd be doing a workout, but he had something more important in mind: breathing. Though this episode was original video, his coaching and explanation are worthy of a listen.
