    Show notes

Certainly I've made a career in awareness as a photographer — finding moments or, arguably, the beauty in things. But more important than that, I think awareness (not just of beauty but of things – but awareness in general, internal states, etc) is a powerful tool — one that gets us all out of your head, into the present moment, and more connected to the world around us.

In fact, when people are early in their career as 'creatives' I find that awareness is usually one of the biggest opportunities for growth.

In this episode, I share 6 tips + a few of my obvious favs) to hone your awareness and tune into this moment.

Making Art for Art's Sake Dec 05, 2022
    Show notes

I'm a huge believer in making art for art's sake. Taking photos that no one is going to pay you for. Shooting films that aren't commissioned or funded. Writing words that the world may never read.

I've said before that doing and making always trumps talking about it, but there's also a difference between the doing and making that pays the bills and the doing and making that brings joy, that hones craft, lights creative fires, and that brings meaning to your life.

This epiosde is a quick little reminder that creating isn't just for paying the bills, it's for joy too.

What Price Are You Willing to Pay to Live Your Best Life Nov 27, 2022
    Show notes

If you've been a long time listener of this show, you've heard me say "you can't stand out and fit in at the same time.

These two dichotomies can keep us paralized. If you never make anything, if you make only what you're comfortable making, or if you are making but you never share, you're hiding.

Once you start hiding, you stop growing. If you feel like you're hiding or you've stopped growing, this episode is for you.

Turkey Day AMA + the Time I Questioned My Creative Calling Nov 24, 2022
    Show notes

In this episode, I'm answering some of my favorite questions from a recent AMA. It was impossible to answer every question, but I did try to select common themes so a single question hits in the ballpark of several others.

    Some topics we get into:

    • How to navigate ever-changing social media platforms and still get our work seen
    • How do we get more comfortable with social interaction in a post-covid world
    • How do we evolve our careers
    • How can we use tragedy to shape use moving forward
    • How do we stop analysis paralysis
    • Have I questioned my own creative calling and what did I do
    • and more

Super thankful to this community. Thank you for everyone who participated. Consider this part 1 and I will record another soon. More to come.

    Enjoy & Happy Thanksgiving

Show, Don't Tell: How to Get Support for Your Creative Work Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

Let's face it, when you put new creative ideas into the world few people understand it. Others may reject it. Overall it's likely you'll be met with resistance. That's ok.

In this episode, we talk about how to navigate these waters. Whether these folks are your loved ones or cynics trying to tamp down your dreams. If we need rocket fuel for our dreams to achieve escape velocity, the cynics in our lives turn on the fire suppression systems and keep us trapped by Earth's gravity. In a previous episode I spoke about auditing your inner circle, but that's not always possible. In that case, how do we get them on board? Let's get into it.

    Enjoy!
