This week Kelly and Lizz are spying on a couple of grant-seeking scientists…aka they’re loving the cheesy love story inside of this month’s book club book The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood.

On the docket today is a millennial phrase of the day — “It’s not that deep” — as well as a hysterical great eight, decent industry news, and a ditch the drive through coming to you from a TCP listener in Ohio.

Quick note from Kelly and Lizz: For July and August we’ll be publishing one episode per week. In September we’ll get back to two episodes per week.

Lizz did her first ad on Instagram and is taking the slow burn growth of her following day by day. She’s happy to stay behind the camera for tours and content creation, though, since Kelly is, in Lizz’s words, atrocious at holding the camera.

In the Tik Tok inspired great eight this week Kelly and Lizz decide which Disney princes would survive the Hunger Games. Featured are princes and male love interests from The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Tangled, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Princess and the Frog, and Sleeping Beauty. Who do the gals think can fight AND survive?

In industry news, hopefully we’ve turned a corner and aren’t just headed downhill as demand numbers are slowing down a little bit. Interest rates and prices are up, some dealerships are trying to survive without much new car inventory, and companies like CarMax are seeing a decline in retail sales. Kia and Hyundai cars between 2011-2015 are being stolen everywhere after viral videos have shown how to start these cars without a key and Ford announced this week they’re no longer going to be allowing buyouts of their EV leases. The gals speculate why Ford is following Tesla’s lead.

To round out the episode Kelly and Lizz rant about Subdivisions, HOA’s, toxic neighborhood Facebook groups, and dudes on hoverboards selling bug spray at dinner time. Speaking of dinner time, this week’s ditch the drive through is a delicious and quick throw-it-together meal that is a whole-family favorite at Kylie’s home in Ohio.

WEDDING DRESS NIGHTMARE Jun 30, 2022

Warning: Bumpy ride ahead! Lizz is back from her 10 hour drive to Dallas WITH NO DRESS. The gals share their last three debit transactions — which may just spark some controversy and reveal the next book club book.

Lizz’s wildest wedding dress fears came true this week complete with a near black-out, dress that wasn’t even close to fitting, and a wedding date quickly approaching. Kelly is going hard on hyping her backup and fending off the nightmare stories from other brides. At least the duo have Lizz’s bachelorette party to look forward to in a couple of weeks!

Kelly and Lizz recount their last three debit card transactions. Kelly shares her bread bagel slice secrets (is this bagel heresy?) and purchase of a new, life changing 16 slice apple slicer. Lizz’s card is still getting a wedding themed workout with her most recent purchases of new wedding shoes and a fake diamond ring for the boat ride.

The millennial word of the day — ship — is here to make Kelly, Lizz, and their millennial mom listeners a little less lame. The Carpool Podcast officially ships Lizz and Mattie.

In industry news, new vehicles cost more, but there’s no shortage of buyers. The average transaction price for a vehicle is now over half of the annual US median household income and Kelly’s passion for affordable family vehicles is on the rise, too. A new collab between Honda Motor Company and Sony looks like a Tesla baby, and Kia shares its EV strategy and hopes to debut eight EVs by 2029.

A short and sweet ditch the drive through comes to you from Kelly’s freezer and Stauffer’s lasagna. This one’s not so quick to cook, but it definitely belongs in your back pocket as a no-brainer, family-friendly, crave-worthy dinner option.

Long-lost Suntrup sis joins Lizz and Kelly today. Sydney is a 2000’s model Suntrup and brings a Gen Z flair to the show with a bit of slang, Q&A, and a college-friendly ditch the drive through.

Kelly’s been practicing her maid of honor speech in the car and Sydney doles out some tips on how she can be both funny and heartfelt. Kelly deems that anything less than pure excellences will be a failure.

Q&A with Sydney covers how she got started with rowing, her love affair with little sedans, and her quirky sense of style. She shares about her double major and masters degree plans and then…reveals who her favorite Suntrup sibling is.

Today’s great eight is a worst eight all about what the gals hate about summer. Sweat, bugs, burns, laundry, and shaving make an appearance as Lizz, Kelly, and Sydney remember the most dreadful days of summer.

In quake-worthy industry news, Toyota pushes back on criticism about their lack of electric vehicle progress and the gals love it. After all, not everyone wants to drive an EV right now. To top off this episode’s industry updates, the brand new Subaru Ascent is getting a facelift and 2.9 million Ford vehicles are recalled.

A new noodle goes a long way when you want to ditch the drive through and Sydney leaves us with a pasta dinner that’s easy, spicy, and Gigi Hadid inspired.

Lizz is leaving Kelly! But only for a week. The wedding is just around the corner and Lizz is making a ten hour drive for her three final dress fittings in Dallas. Only time and distance will tell if the gals can handle working remotely from each other again.

Kelly and Lizz have wrangled some wild auto industry news stories for today including a report on the new all-electric Chevy Blazer, which inspires the gals to dream up an interview with Chevy's badass CEO, Mary Barra. Next, they cover a new study that suggests your car color impacts its resale value and why yellow cars come out a clear winner in the resale value category. Last, the legal battle of a Missouri woman who contracted an STD while very much ‘adulting’ in a man’s car filed claims against his auto insurance company Geico for the incident. Kelly and Lizz can’t even.

To wrap up the show, Nikki from Boston calls in with tasty summer ditch-the drive through: Burger Bowls! KEEPIN' IT ONE HUNNED WITH MATTIE Jun 07, 2022

One hot soon-to-be-married marine joins Kelly and Lizz for the show today. Mattie and Lizz tell all about their old-fashioned first date and how Lizz hooked him with her shotgun shooting chicken arm.
Lizz shares the solemn dating vow she broke for Mattie and a few other hot dating tips are dished.
Mattie gives the millenial word for the day and the trio debate about age rounding errors and elders.
Next up, an ICONIC test drive of MREs. These military ‘meals ready to eat’ have got 40 to 50 year expiration dates according to Mattie and there’s expert etiquette for eating them the right way. The gals give the beef stick and lemon poppy seed loaf a try and Kelly chows down on the Mattie-proclaimed pinnacle of MRE’s — the chili mac.
Industry news is ‘weak as circus lemonade’ with the chip shortages still stopping up the supply chain and new cars are being delivered without upgraded features. The Car Mom gets an invite to a Rivian event … but will she go?
