The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 8th study session on Jeffrey Toobin's The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. This 1996 New York Times bestseller enjoyed two different waves of success. It was critically acclaimed during the initial mid-90's publication and enjoyed re-newed success following the critically acclaimed and widely adored 2016 FX miniseries - which is based on Toobin's work. Toobin compiled three glorious decades of journalism, spawned from his coverage of the Simpson trial. He wrote beloved books on the Supreme Court and authored a scathing indictment of President Donald J. Trump. Things were triumphant until the year of the rona. While participating in a live Zoom conference with prominent White journalists, Toobin brandished his penis and began masturbating. He was initially suspended by the New Yorker. After an investigation, Toobin was terminated. We'll keep this in mind while reading his account of the most well documented, most watched court trial of all time. Last week's session detailed how the jury eventually consisted of 8 black females, 2 non-black males, and 2 White Women. Marcia Clark thought black females were her "gals" and would align with she in convicting a toxic black male. Jury consultants informed the defense and prosecution that black females were Simpson's most supportive group and that they did not empathize with Nicole Brown Simpson #GoldDigger Toobin emphasizes the alleged lowbrow nature of the predominantly black female group - highlighting their lack of education and income, minuscule reading tendencies, and overwhelmingly Democratic political views. Toobin also described Faye Resnick as another White heroine who could have helped secure a guilty verdict had she testified. Resnick wrote a bestselling book that was published during jury selection for the trial. More recently, he was hired to help defend Casey Anthony, but McKenna is most well known for his work with the 1995 O.J. Simpson criminal trial. We'll get details on how he got involved in the "Trial of the Century" and what evidence he uncovered about the time of the murders. McKenna is credited with tracking down details that produced the infamous audio recordings of former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman. The first full week of 2021 has offered no reason for optimism that things will improve from the madness of 2020. Covid-19 continues to suffocate the planet, the vaccine rollout has been fractured, and riot and bloodshed wracked the the capitol city. As with all highly controversial political events, Gus encourages non-white people to avoid discussing the events on the job. There is nothing to be gained by volunteering your commentary on these events. Even speaking with other non-white colleagues could be dangerous. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Stephen Singular. A journalist and author, Singular has a lengthy history of writing non-fiction books that investigate White Supremacist violence. Because of his earlier writing on the White Supremacist murder of Alan Berg, Singular was contacted in 1994 by an anonymous source who told him that similar Racist elements were involved in the O.J. Simpson case. The source detailed how Mark Fuhrman planted a bloody glove on the property of Mr. Simpson and offered background information on Fuhrman's antiblack beliefs and violent history. Singular shared his information with the Simpson defense team and published a book about his experience: Legacy of Deception: An Investigation of Mark Fuhrman and Racism in the L.A.P.D. Singular details the White Supremacist element in Idaho where Fuhrman - and a number of other L.A.P.D. officers - purchase retirement property. Coincidentally, this area also has ties to Oklahoma City Bomber Timothy McVeigh, who killed more than 160 people in 1995 - during the middle of the Simpson trial. Anthony Quinn Warner, a 63-year-old White man, is presumed to have died in the early morning explosion. Interestingly, Warner's girlfriend apparently alerted authorities to his terrorist activities a year in advance. Nashville's finest apparently left him to his own devices. In Ohio, protests call for charges to be filed against a White officer, Adam Coy, who killed Andre Hill. Many restaurants remain prohibited from serving patrons on the premises, and infections have plagued a number a number of work sites across the country. With a number of vaccines now available, many places of employment may soon require workers to inoculate. Toobin compiled three glorious decades of journalism, spawned from his coverage of the Simpson trial. He wrote beloved books on the Supreme Court and authored a scathing indictment of President Donald J. Trump. Things were triumphant until the year of the rona. Last week's session examined initial charges that the defense would play the so-called "Race Card." Toobin describes his July 1994 interview with Robert Shapiro, where Simpson's attorney explained that they would pursue the professional record and Racist activity of detective Mark Fuhrman. Toobin and Simpson's defense unearthed public records documenting Fuhrman's failed attempt to secure an early retirement because of alleged racist thoughts and behaviors he devolved being an officer. Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. joined the Simpson defense later that summer. Tobbin's account of this hire emphasizes OJ's intellectual inferiority, crediting Shapiro with Cochran's acquisition.
