Midterms, phase three: Red wave, back on? Oct 17, 2022
    Show notes

The 2022 midterm campaign has gone through two distinct phases and has now entered a third. In the first phase, lasting about 12 months and ending in late June of this year, Republicans were the clear favorite to win control of the House, and probably win big. In the second phase, from late June until mid-September, the race was much more competitive, with most observers still predicting a GOP victory in the House, but a much narrower one than earlier thought. Some even said Democrats had at least an outside chance of keeping the House. But now, we are in a new phase in which the odds of a big Republican victory have risen again.

Joe Biden: Foreign Policy For Political Gain. Oct 14, 2022
    Show notes

It's obvious that a midterm election loss would be devastating for President Joe Biden. Even if Republicans only win control of the House of Representatives, whatever remains of a Biden legislative agenda, if there is such a thing, will be instantly dead. If the GOP also wins control of the Senate, even narrowly, Biden's ability to win confirmation for his judicial and other nominees will be greatly diminished. So while the president and the leaders of the Democratic Party want to appear cool and confident about the elections, there is more than a little desperation behind the scenes.

Will Joe Biden Ever Face Questions About His Role in The Hunter Biden Scandal? Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

President Joe Biden gave a rare — really rare — one-on-one interview Tuesday night. Speaking to CNN, Biden defended his use of the word "Armageddon" in warning that nuclear annihilation might result from Vladimir Putin's threat to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Biden described Putin as "a rational actor who's miscalculated significantly."

Republicans and Bias in Midterm Polls Oct 11, 2022
    Show notes

Republicans always believe the polls are slanted against them. That belief has sometimes caused them to misread big political races. In 2012, for example, a significant number of Republicans convinced themselves that GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was actually going to defeat incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama. There was a lot of talk about "unskewing" the polls. Then Obama beat Romney handily.

    JOE BIDEN'S ARMAGEDDON FUNDRAISER Oct 07, 2022
    Show notes

With just a few weeks left before the midterm elections, on Thursday night, President Joe Biden traveled to New York to attend a Democratic Party fundraiser. Such events don't normally produce earth-shattering news, but this one did.

When A 'Conspiracy Theory' Turns Out To Be... Not A Theory Oct 05, 2022
    Show notes

On Monday, the New York Times published a story about Konnech, a small election software company that has just 27 employees, 21 based in Michigan and six in Australia. The paper reported that Konnech has been the target of "election deniers" who have made it the focus of "a new conspiracy theory about the 2020 presidential election."

Joe Biden, the 82-year-old candidate? Oct 04, 2022
    Show notes

There's a new report from NBC News that President Joe Biden has told a confidant, the Rev. Al Sharpton, of all people, that he will run for reelection in 2024. It's not terribly well sourced, attributing the information to "an official of Sharpton's National Action Network" who told NBC what Sharpton had told him. In any event, the story said Biden told Sharpton as the two posed for pictures after a White House meeting with civil rights leaders on Sept. 2: "I'm going to do it again. I'm going."

Trump fired Peter Strzok. Now Biden is defending that decision Oct 03, 2022
    Show notes

There have been endless news reports about the Biden Justice Department's pursuit of former President Donald Trump. There is, of course, the Mar-a-Lago classified documents affair. There is the Jan. 6 investigation. And lately, there have been reports that the department is also investigating some unspecified aspect of Trump's post-presidential fundraising.

In Midterm Politics, Historical Analogies Work -- Until They Don't Sep 27, 2022
    Show notes

If history is any guide, Democrats do not have a chance — not even a small a chance — of keeping control of the House in the midterm elections. But the question is: Is history any guide?

Yes, Illegal Border Crossers Are Breaking The Law Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

The Sept. 19 newsletter discussed the mass hysteria over the arrival of 48 Venezuelan illegal border crossers in Martha's Vineyard on a flight orchestrated by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. In reference to the newsletter, I tweeted this: "Problem with the Martha's Vineyard freakout is that the debate ignores the real problem. We're talking about how to accommodate illegal border crossers once they are in the country, and not about how to prevent people from crossing illegally into the U.S."
