Ricky Powell. (Legendary Photographer. The Joint Chief Of Snaps. The Lazy Hustler) Oct 21, 2019
    Show notes

The Funky Uncle Sloppy... the "individualist"... Ricky Powell. I met up with the legendary photographer on West 8th Street in the West Village at Evas Kitchen to talk that nonsense. He tells the story of how he got his first camera, after being "played like a wet tuna sandwich" and the reasoning behind him deciding to take to the streets to take photos. His early days as a kid, meeting the "Beastie Boys" and going on the road with them and "Run DMC" on the "Raising Hell" Tour. From his public access television show, "Rappin' with The Rickster" to photographing people like Cindy Crawford, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Mike Tyson, Eazy-E, Laurence Fishburn, Dondi and countless others along with the the six books he's put out and so much in between while "crunching on a crispy knish". This was awesome to do. There will be a part two I'm sure and possibly more than that. I hope you enjoy this one!

ILL BILL. (Non Phixion. La Coka Nostra. Heavy Metal Kings.) Apr 01, 2019
    Show notes

I sat down with the Cult Leader. ILL BILL. Founder of "Non Phixion", a member of "La Coka Nostra" and along with Vinnie Paz, he is one half of "Heavy Metal Kings". He invited me to his house in Brooklyn to have a conversation, which, he rarely does. So, for that, I'm thankful. We go way back to Canarsie, to 5714 Farrigut Road in the early 80's when he started listening to metal and hip hop in the Glenwood Projects. When he was in a death metal band, "Injustice", playing the "Battle of the Bands" at South Shore High School (which I attended as well) and playing at L'amour opening for bands like "Sepultura". From the beginning of the formation of "Non Phixion", his solo career, the birth of "La Coka Nostra" with Danny Boy, DJ Lethal, Everlast of "House of Pain", Slaine and Big Left. To working with DJ Muggs for the "Kill Devil Hills" record and the formation of "Heavy Metal Kings". There's a lot of history here leading up to his brand new record that he did with Stu-Bangas, "Cannibal Hulk". Sit back and study your lessons and enjoy this episode with ILL BILLY IDOL with a little cameo appearance from our old friend "Tommy Rebel". Respect.

Havoc of The Infamous... Mobb Deep. Mar 25, 2019
    Show notes

Legendary Producer, Beat Maker, Rapper and one half of The Infamous... Mobb Deep! Havoc joins me on Episode 94 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast! I met up with him at a small restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for a laid back discussion about the history of Mobb Deep. From way back when they were called "The Poetical Prophets" to blowing up right after they were featured in the "Unsigned Hype" section of "The Source" magazine. From the first demo to the "Juvenile Hell" record all the way through to the last. His solo records, record labels, fame, tours, an enormous list of people he made beats for and everything in between up until now and what he is doing into the future. I even reminded him about the time he almost died on stage at Tigers Stadium in Detroit on the last date of the "Anger Management" tour with Eminem and 50 Cent. No boring "interview" questions, just an organic conversation. Havoc is a good dude and it was an honor to do this with him. The utmost respect to him and his legal representative, Albert Soler Esq. I hope you enjoy this and hope to link up again with him in the future to catch up on what's happening. Rest in Peace Prodigy. Mobb Deep Forever. Respect. Bonus Mini Episode - Jimmy's Daughter: Alexa Ferrari. Little Miss Blast Furnace. Jan 02, 2019
    Show notes

Jimmy's daughter, 9 year old Alexa wanted to be "on the radio" again. She was a guest on Episode 19 and enjoyed herself. So I figured it was a good time to have her on once again for a little conversation. We talk Christmas, Sick Of It All, Done Deal, if Santa is real and animals, she also asked me a few questions. A light hearted little talk with my daughter just for fun and simply because she wanted to do it. I hope you enjoy my conversation with my kid. Hope you had a Happy New Year. Thanks for the support. Respect.

Ian Shafer. (World Class Tattoo Artist. Old School Punk Rocker) Dec 17, 2018
    Show notes

One of my best friends and brother... Ian Shafer. Old School Punk Rocker and World Class Tattoo Artist. Ian and I met under crazy circumstances in 2004 in a Therapeutic Community in Rhinebeck, New York. I mentioned him on Episodes 49 and 51 in my "Life & Times" series briefly. He definitely has a very unique life story. Some serious, some hysterical and some absolutely bat shit crazy and almost unbelievable. One of the most stand up guys I've ever known. I hope you enjoy this episode. Respect.

Ep. 72 - Grand Master Hosun Kang: 9th Degree Black Belt. Oct 29, 2018
    Show notes

Grand Master Hosun Kang is a 9th Degree Black Belt in the Kuk Mu Kwan style of Tae Kwon Do with over 54 years of experience, several schools and has taught tens of thousands of students and has created hundreds of Black Belts. His father, Grand Master Suh Chong Kang is the founder of Kuk Mu Kwan and has deep roots in Korea. He tells his father's story of training the Korean version of the CIA during the Korean War along with his journey to America. His extremely successful "Kang System" Tae Kwon Do schools, along with his battle with stage 4 cancer and how he lost everything due to a very close family member. I looked up to this man as a child and was extremely grateful to have been able to do this podcast with him. I hope you enjoy this. Respect.

Steve Mona. (Former C.O. of the N.Y.C. Vandal Squad. Delta Bravo Urban Exploration Team) Aug 22, 2018
    Show notes

Steve Mona is the former Commanding Officer of the New York City Vandal Squad. But... he likes graffiti! He's also a 9/11 First Responder who worked on "the pile" for months at a time. On a lighter note, he's part of the Delta Bravo Urban Exploration Team in which Danny Boy from House of Pain / La Coka Nostra founded. Steve is an incredibly genuine and nice guy. I'm happy we made this happen. I hope you enjoy this episode. Thanks as always for listening.

Diabolic. (Rapper. Suffolk's Most Wanted - Live from Huntington Station) Aug 08, 2018
    Show notes

Diabolic is a rapper from Suffolk County, Long Island. He's been in the rap game for decades. His debut record "Liar And A Thief" is considered a "classic" hip hop record by most people. "The Foul Play Mixtape" and "Fightin' Words" are nothing to sneeze at either. His newest record "The Disconnect" is complete and will be released within a few months. He's got classic joints with Immortal Technique, Vinnie Paz and Ill Bill as well. I didn't know what to expect when we met up at a shitty little bar in Huntington Station, Long Island. He was nothing but cool and mad easy to talk to. This might be the episode that is the most like a regular conversation with no direction. I hope you enjoy this one. It was definitely cool to do, especially being a fan of his music. Respect.

Jimmy Ferrari: Life & Times. Part II Jun 13, 2018
    Show notes

After a lot of positive feedback from Episode 49, I decided to do a "Part II" of the "Life & Times" episode. I pick up in 1995 and speak on some of my time in the Air Force and some ridiculous shenanigans that happened while I was in rehab in 2004 amongst a few other things. Thanks again for all of the continued support! It's truly appreciated. Thanks to Joe C. for the new intro!
