My People. My People. Please let me teach you an important lesson today. I've already learned it and it took me far too long to accept.

Politicians and political parties make HUGE mistakes. They even do evil shit. All of them. And the moment you are unwilling to believe this truth is the moment that you've been duped. ALL OF US must be willing to look at both Democrats and Republicans with a critical lens. Because both parties deserve critique. And if your favorite party or politician cannot withstand some criticism then they aren't worth following.

It's happening right now with Joe Biden. Dude clearly made a huge political mistake. And it is already being weaponized. The sooner you accept this, the better.

Well, this is a HUGE mess for Joe Biden and for his DOJ.As you may have heard, classified, TOP SECRET documents were just found in an old office Joe Biden was using before he became President.

But Democrats don't even seem to care...at all. After all of the outrage about Trump, I don't think I've seen a single prominent Democrat speaking out about Biden doing the SAME EXACT THING that they called for Trump to be arrested and prosecuted for.

Ep. 736 - Last year was the single worst year for police brutality ever recorded. Jan 10, 2023

For me, this news is devastating. And I take it personally, because above all else, it means that in spite of our best efforts to reduce the number of people killed by police, what we are doing is just not working.

Listen, I don't even think that we have been wrong for fighting to hold police accountability and change policies on the city, county, state, and federal level, but what he must conclude is that our combined efforts to curb police violence have effectively failed. Have we had a few important victories? Of course.

But the problem we've aimed to solve simply has gotten worse and we must ask ourselves that hard questions about what this means.Let me unpack and explain it all.

Ep. 735 - The United States should extradite Jair Bolsonaro back to Brazil TODAY Jan 09, 2023

As you no doubt saw - conservative Brazilian supporters of their recently ousted President, Jair Bolsonaro, inspired by the January 6th insurrection 2 years ago in the United States, just attempted to take over the Congress, Supreme Court, and Presidential Palace in the Capitol of Brazil.

Almost 2 years to the day, under almost identical circumstances, these conservatives attempted and failed the same foolishness that we saw right here in the US. And here's the thing - it looked so similar, because they were literally coached by American conservatives. And several things need to happen immediately.

Jair Bolsonaro, who is an open bigot, should be deported/extradited BACK to Brazil. The man is literally hiding out in Florida - which is simultaneously wild and makes perfect sense at the same time. Of course he would travel to the home state of Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis to hide. But the United States has an extradition treaty with Brazil and should send him right back home to face the consequences for what he caused.

Secondly, an immediate investigation needs to be launched into the American conservatives that coached Brazilian conservatives through all of this. They openly admit, publicly and privately, that they've been telling Brazilians exactly what to do to undermine faith in their elections and in their democracy. And Brazil should charge them - so that they can also face the consequences for what they just caused.

Ep. 734 - Why I think what the ultra conservatives are doing in Congress is brilliant Jan 06, 2023

As you may know, nearly 20 ultra conservative members of Congress are doing something that we have not seen in America since before the Civil War. They are REFUSING to vote for the Speaker of the House nominated by most of their party.
They’ve literally had 12 different votes and they refuse to budge. They want a long list of concessions and even prefer for Kevin McCarthy to step down altogether. And here’s the thing, it only takes 5 of them to block this vote. They have the numbers.
Now, I loathe these 20 Republicans, but this strategy they are employing already happens all over the world. And we should study and use it ourselves all over the country. Let me unpack and explain it.

Ep. 733 - The NFL should do the compassionate thing and postpone all games until next week Jan 05, 2023

Now, let's be real, the NFL, and it's good 'ol boy network of owners, are not known for doing the right thing, or the compassionate thing, when it comes to its players. But to be real - I don't even think it's safe for them to play this weekend.

I damn sure know it's not safe for the Bills to play this weekend. Those men are traumatized. Their brother is fighting for his life in the hospital and they literally watched him die and be brought back to life on the field.

But it goes beyond the Bills, and even the Bengals - players all over the league have said publicly that they have not been able to sleep and that seeing what happened to Damar Hamlin has traumatized them as well.

Simply push the games forward one week. It won't delay the Super Bowl. Just give these players time to process this.What do you think?

Ep. 732 - The Compounding Impact of Police Violence Jan 04, 2023

This week I learned that Amber Carr, the sister of Atatiana Jefferson, who is just 33 years old and has two young sons, has been told that she may not live until this weekend. Her heart is failing and it has impacted every other organ of her body.

It was Amber's own son who was in the room playing video games with Atatiana when she was shot and killed. And in the months that followed Atatiana's mother and father both died. It's too much. It's too much for heart, mind, body, and soul. And over and over again I've seen entire families impacted by police violence experience a horrible ripple effect that had a devastating impact that goes far beyond the initial victim.

Today, let's all chip in and do everything we can to support Atatiana's family. They need our help.

Ep. 731 - Damar Hamlin and fragility of life Jan 03, 2023

Happy New Year my friends. It's good to be back. But as sports fans, and just good citizens, it's a painful day after what can only be called a catastrophic near death experience that happened on live TV last night.
Damar Hamlin, a young defensive player for the Buffalo Bills, went into cardiac arrest after a hard hit, and appears to have basically died right there on the field until he was finally resuscitated with CPR and other techniques.
It is, perhaps, the most brutal moment for football - in a long list of brutal moments, but it also became a moment where Americans, even rival football fans, put aside their differences to pray and hope for the life of a young man that they most likely had never heard of before.And suddenly, we were no longer looking at a football field, but we were looking at mortality, at life, at death, and so much more.

Today I want to share a painful, personal story about a lesson that I learned about organizing for change as an outsider and organizing for change as an insider. In the winter of 2014, I found myself in a deep funk after failing in so many fights for families fighting for justice. And I got a call from The White House that forever changed the way I saw my role in this movement. I wanted to speak like and lead like Malcolm, but have the access to rooms of power and privilege like Martin. It didn't work. Let me unpack and explain how that informs almost everything I do as a leader today.
