Thought for October 7th. “MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME BECAUSE THE DAYS ARE EVIL” Oct 07, 2024
    Show notes

Our world is full of distractions – far more than in any previous age. Paul in today’s chapters in Ephesians [5 v.16] wrote the above words and they apply so much to the way we live our lives right now. He also wrote, “sexual immorality and all impurity … must not even be named among you … let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk, nor crude joking …” [v.3,4] The kind of life in Ephesus must have been a lot like today – but at least they did not have the internet, TV, radio and magazines with so much of their content enticing their minds with every kind of impurity.

How can a true Bible believer have anything to do with so many of the attitudes and fleshly values which surround us and are so blatantly portrayed as entertainment!! Now note what Paul then writes, “Instead, let there be thanksgiving” We must realize the point of that comment.

Are we thankful that we can see the true meaning and purpose of life? We should be! Those who are living for the experiences they can have each day, have their minds fed by the instincts of the flesh instead of the word of God. They have no thought at all that awesome judgements from God are hanging over the world of today.

This leads us to think of our readings today in Ezekiel (Ch.33) and the blindness of the people in Jerusalem as to their impending fate and the prophet’s role and responsibility as a watchman. We have the same responsibility. God tells the prophet, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.” His message was to be, “turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?” [v.11]

Our message is the same, it may fall on deaf ears but we have a responsibility to try. Lot, living in Sodom, obviously tried, otherwise Abraham would not have thought there could be “fifty righteous within the city” [Gen 18 v.24]

Peter comments on how God rescued “righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct” around him” [2 Peter 2 v.12] Do you feel distressed? Are you making “the best use of the time”? Is it your time? No – it is God’s time! Let us spend it in the wisest way.

A @Christadelphians Video: ### SummaryIsrael faces significant threats from hostile nations and militant groups, yet remains resilient in its defense and pursuit of peace.### Highlights- 🎤 Netanyahu addresses the UN, emphasizing Israel's preference for peace over conflict.- ✈️ Israel conducts airstrikes in Lebanon, targeting missile launchers and Hezbollah's leadership.- ⚔️ Over 9,200 missiles launched at Israel by Hezbollah since October 7th.- 💔 UN shows overwhelming bias against Israel with 174 condemnations in the past decade.- 🌍 Iran's aggression poses a threat not only to Israel but to global stability.- 📜 Biblical prophecies outline Israel's significance and divine protection.- ✝️ Israel's perseverance is rooted in faith and historical promises from God.### Key Insights- 📈 The strategic maps presented by Netanyahu illustrate the stark choices facing the region: peace versus chaos. This highlights Israel's commitment to fostering regional cooperation amidst hostility. - 💣 Israel's military operations against Hezbollah and Iran demonstrate its proactive stance in national defense, reflecting a necessity rather than aggression in its military strategy. - 🕊️ Netanyahu’s assertion of Israel's choice for peace underscores the nation’s desire to coexist with its neighbors, yet it faces continuous threats from radical elements in the region.- ⚖️ The UN's disproportionate focus on Israel reveals systemic bias, which undermines the organization's credibility and highlights the ongoing struggle against anti-Semitism on a global scale.- 🌐 Iran's influence across the Middle East, funding terror networks, threatens to destabilize not just Israel but many nations, necessitating a unified international response.- 📖 Biblical references in Netanyahu's speech reflect a deep historical and spiritual connection to the land, reinforcing the narrative of Israel as a divinely protected nation.- 🔮 The ongoing geopolitical tensions and biblical prophecies suggest that Israel’s challenges are part of a larger, prophetic framework, indicating that its ultimate survival and triumph are assured. Israel has been under fire from Hamas, Hezbollah, Yemen and Iran – and yet God continues to deliver them from their enemies. The nations of the world have united at the United Nations to condemn Israel, and this is a political manifestation of the perpetual hatred or enmity spoken of in Genesis 3:15. As the world becomes increasingly hostile, Israel becomes increasingly successful. This is God’s doing and marvellous in his eyes, hailing the way for God's coming kingdom.

Thought for October 6th. “CORRUPTING TALK” Oct 06, 2024
    Show notes

The world today is full of ‘corrupting talk’ – and the Apostle Paul uses this phrase in today’s Ephesians’ chapters. This is the natural way of speaking in many cases among people who have no thought of God, especially those who are convinced they are the highest form of animal life and that they are just the result of evolution.

The ‘atmosphere’ created by godless ways of thinking – and therefore talking – which we experience as we go to school or work, constantly threatens to rub off on us. This atmosphere can so easily influence the way we think – and as a result, what we talk about. Although we are aware ‘we are in the world but not of it’ the words of Paul we read today are needed as a constant reminder to us.

He wrote, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up as fits the occasion, that may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God (the means by which God and Christ know all our thoughts and words – read Psalm 139) … Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” [Ephes. 4 v.29-32]

How few are “tender hearted” these days. The influence of the daily reading and meditating on the word of God makes such an attitude of mind possible, otherwise it is very difficult if not impossible. It is just as important to get our attitudes right as it is to get our beliefs right. Take special notice of what Paul also writes, “But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ” [v.15]
