Welcome & Episode Notes: "When Things Aren’t Going Right – Achan’s Sin (Part One)" (Joshua 7:1-23)

    Welcome:

Today, we look into a powerful and sobering lesson from Joshua 7—the story of Achan’s sin.

Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try, things just don’t work out? You put in the effort, but success feels out of reach. Sometimes, life’s struggles are just part of the journey, but other times, there’s a deeper reason—one we might not want to face.

Joshua 7 gives us one possible explanation: hidden sin can block God’s blessing and bring trouble not just to us, but to those around us. Achan’s disobedience didn’t just affect him—it led to Israel’s defeat at Ai, revealing a sobering truth: what we do in private impacts others in ways we can’t always see.

    Join us as we explore:

    • Why Israel lost the battle of Ai despite their previous victories.
    • How hidden sin disrupts not only personal lives but entire communities.
    • Why confession and repentance are essential for spiritual renewal.
    • What it truly means to glorify God—even in failure.

Let’s unpack these lessons and discover how to realign our lives with God’s will.

    Episode Notes:

    Key Themes in Joshua 7:1-23:

    • The Hidden Sin That Brought Defeat (Joshua 7:1)
    • Israel’s Defeat at Ai (Joshua 7:2-5)
    • Joshua’s Despair & God’s Response (Joshua 7:6-12)
    • Achan’s Exposure & Confession (Joshua 7:13-23)

    Practical Takeaways:

    • Sin is never private. It affects those around us in ways we don’t always realize.
    • Unconfessed sin hinders victory. We can’t move forward spiritually while clinging to disobedience.
    • God disciplines His people. He loves us too much to let sin go unchecked.
    • Confession glorifies God. Admitting our sin aligns us with His truth and leads to healing.
    • Victory requires obedience. We can’t expect success while ignoring God’s commands.

    Reflection Questions:

    • Are there hidden areas in your life that might be blocking God’s blessing?
    • Have you experienced setbacks that could be connected to unaddressed sin?
    • How can you ensure that your actions don’t negatively impact others?
    • What steps can you take today to confess, repent, and realign with God’s will?

    Final Thoughts:

Joshua 7 reminds us that sin, no matter how hidden, has consequences. But the good news is that God’s desire is always for restoration, not destruction.

If you’re experiencing setbacks or struggles, take time to examine your heart. Maybe, like Joshua, it’s time to stop asking “Why, God?” and start asking, “Lord, what do I need to change?”

    Welcome Message:

Welcome to The Bible Project Daily Podcast! In today’s episode, we explore Joshua 6, one of the most famous stories in Scripture—the fall of Jericho.

Many of us struggle with personal strongholds—things that hold us back spiritually, emotionally, or relationally. But what if I told you that God has already given us the key to overcoming them? The victory has already been won, but we must step out in faith to claim it.

Join us as we uncover the essential principles of:

    • Identifying your "Jericho"—the strongholds that stand in your way.
    • Trusting in God’s plan—even when it doesn’t make sense.
    • Walking in obedience and faith, the key to spiritual victory.
    • Understanding that true victory is not achieved through human effort, but through trust in God’s power.

Let’s discover how faith, obedience, and perseverance can bring down the walls in our lives.

    Episode Notes:

    Key Themes in Joshua 6:

    1. The Problem: Jericho as a Symbol of Strongholds (Joshua 6:1)
    2. God’s Strategy for Victory (Joshua 6:2-7)
    3. The Obedience of Israel (Joshua 6:8-19)
    4. The Victory and Its Aftermath (Joshua 6:20-27)

    Practical Takeaways:

    • Identify your Jericho. What stronghold is preventing your spiritual growth?
    • Trust in God’s plan. His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).
    • Obey even when it doesn’t make sense. Faith is expressed in action.
    • Victory is already promised. God had given Jericho into Israel’s hands before they even began marching (Joshua 6:2).
    • Remember Rahab’s story. No one is beyond God’s grace; salvation comes through faith.

    Final Thoughts:

The fall of Jericho teaches us a powerful truth: Victory in life comes not through our own strength, but through faith and obedience to God.

No matter what walls you face today—fear, addiction, sin, broken relationships—God has already won the battle. The question is: Will you trust Him enough to obey, even when it doesn’t make sense?

Let’s walk in faith and watch God bring down the walls.

Welcome to today’s episode of The Bible Project Daily Podcast! In this episode, we are exploring what it means to truly have God on your side. Many of us desire a deeper relationship with God, but how do we position ourselves to experience His power and presence in our lives?

As we examine Joshua’s journey, we’ll uncover key spiritual principles that teach us how to align ourselves with God’s will, experience personal renewal, and prepare our hearts before stepping into the battles of life.

    Join us as we explore:

    • How Israel’s acts of obedience (circumcision and Passover) prepared them for victory.
    • Why spiritual preparation comes before success.
    • What Joshua’s encounter with the Commander of the Lord’s Army reveals about true surrender.
    • How we can ensure we are on God’s side, rather than simply expecting Him to be on ours.

Let’s journey together through this powerful passage and discover how obedience, surrender, and worship position us to walk in God’s strength and experience His guidance in our lives.

    Episode Notes:

    Key Themes in Joshua 5:

    1. The Fear of the Enemy (Joshua 5:1)
    2. Renewing the Covenant through Circumcision (Joshua 5:2-9)
    3. Observing the Passover (Joshua 5:10-12)
    4. Joshua’s Encounter with the Commander of the Lord’s Army (Joshua 5:13-15)

    Practical Takeaways:

    • Spiritual preparation comes before victory.
    • Obedience leads to greater revelation.
    • God doesn’t take sides—He takes over.
    • Surrender and worship are the right responses.

    Reflection Questions:

    1. Is there an area in your life where you need to renew your commitment to God?
    2. Are you seeking God’s blessing for your plans, or are you submitting to His plans?
    3. How can you practice greater obedience and surrender in your daily walk with God?
    4. Have you paused to remember and celebrate God’s past faithfulness before moving forward?

    Final Thoughts:

Joshua 5 teaches us a powerful lesson: Before we can experience victory, we must first be spiritually prepared. God’s presence and power are available to those who obey Him fully, surrender completely, and worship Him wholeheartedly.

May this episode encourage you to examine your own life and ask: Am I truly on God’s side?

Welcome to The Bible Project Daily Podcast!

Life can be challenging, and sometimes, as we move forward, those challenges only seem to increase. When the difficulties mount and discouragement sets in, we may find ourselves wondering if we have the strength to keep going. But before we consider giving up, we must remember the essential truths found in God’s Word.

Joshua 10 provides us with a powerful lesson on perseverance, faith, and God's intervention. At this point in Israel's journey, they have entered the Promised Land, experienced victories, faced setbacks, and even dealt with deception. But now, something shifts—their battles escalate as five Amorite kings unite against them. The trials grow harder, yet so does the evidence of God’s power.

In this episode, we explore how Joshua's story reflects our own spiritual and personal struggles. Whether in leadership, parenting, or our Christian walk, the higher we climb, the harder the challenges become. But just as God fought for Joshua, He fights for us, too.

This episode invites you to reflect on the increasing challenges in your own life and recognize that they are not signs of failure but signs of growth. God strengthens us for each new battle. When life gets tougher, His power becomes even more evident.

Join us as we unpack this remarkable chapter and discover how we can stand firm in faith, trusting that God is always working on our behalf.

    • The progression of spiritual battles in life
    • Trusting God through increasing challenges
    • God’s miraculous intervention in Joshua’s greatest battle
    • Lessons on leadership, faith, and perseverance
    • How God equips us for each new struggle

    Welcome & Study Notes:

Welcome to this episode of our study in the book of Joshua! Today, we explore Joshua 3:1-16, a powerful passage that teaches us how to respond when we face seemingly impossible situations. Just as the Israelites stood before the flooded Jordan River, we often encounter barriers in life that seem insurmountable. But through faith, preparation, and obedience, we can witness God’s power at work in our lives. Let's dive into the study and discover how Joshua's experience can encourage and guide us in our own challenges.

    Study Notes:

    1. Facing an Impossible Situation (Joshua 3:1-4)

Lesson: When facing challenges, we must keep our eyes on God’s presence and trust His guidance, rather than relying on our own understanding.

    2. Preparing for the Miracle (Joshua 3:5-6)

Lesson: Spiritual preparation—through confession, sanctification, and focusing on God—positions us to experience His power in our lives.

    3. God’s Promise to Joshua (Joshua 3:7-13)

Lesson: True faith requires action. We often have to step out in obedience before we see the results of God’s promises.

    4. The Miracle at the Jordan (Joshua 3:14-16)

Lesson: God specializes in doing the impossible, but He calls us to trust Him fully before we see the outcome.

    Application Questions:

    1. What "impossible" situation are you currently facing? How can you focus on God's presence rather than the problem?
    2. In what ways can you spiritually prepare yourself for God’s work in your life?
    3. Are you willing to take a step of faith even before you see the outcome? What might that look like in your circumstances?
    4. How does Joshua’s leadership and trust in God inspire you in your own faith journey?

    Key Takeaways:

    • Keep your eyes on God – He is the one leading the way.
    • Prepare your heart – Sanctify yourself to be ready for God’s work.
    • Step out in faith – Obedience often precedes miracles.
    • Trust God's timing – His plan may not always be immediate, but it is always perfect.

As we reflect on this passage, may we be reminded that no situation is truly impossible when we trust in the Lord. Whatever challenges you are facing today, step forward in faith, knowing that God goes before you.

Blessings, and thanks for joining today’s study!

    Welcome & Study Notes:

    Welcome to Today’s Episode!

In this episode, we continue our journey through the book of Joshua, focusing on chapter 2. Last time, we saw God’s commission to Joshua and the Israelites' pledge of obedience. Today, we explore Joshua’s strategic decision to send spies into Jericho—a move that teaches us a valuable lesson about preparation in fulfilling God’s plans.

Although God had already promised victory, Joshua understood the necessity of gathering information and preparing wisely. We also encounter Rahab, a surprising yet pivotal figure, whose faith and actions secured not only her safety but also her place in God’s redemptive plan.

Study Notes: Key Themes & Lessons from Joshua 2

    1. The Role of Preparation in Fulfilling God’s Will (Joshua 2:1)

    2. Rahab’s Act of Faith & God’s Grace (Joshua 2:2-7)

    3. Faith That Leads to Action (Joshua 2:8-24)

    4. The Spies’ Report & God’s Sovereignty (Joshua 2:23-24)

    Practical Takeaways:

    • Preparation is key – Knowing God’s will isn’t enough; we must take practical steps to act on it.
    • Faith requires action – Rahab didn’t just believe; she acted on her belief.
    • God’s grace is for all – No one is beyond redemption; God can use anyone who trusts in Him.
    • God is always working ahead of us – Like the spies discovered, God often prepares the way before we even arrive.

Final Thought: Rahab’s scarlet cord serves as a powerful symbol of God’s redemptive grace, pointing to Jesus Christ. Her story reminds us that no matter our past, faith in God can lead to transformation and inclusion in His plan. As we move forward in our own journeys, let’s embrace both faith and preparation, trusting that God is always ahead of us, guiding our steps.

Thanks for joining this study! Stay tuned as we continue through Joshua and uncover more about God’s faithfulness and our call to trust and obey Him.

In today’s episode, we explore the significance of obedience, both to God and to human authority, as seen in Joshua 1:10-18. Obedience is not always easy, but it is foundational to spiritual growth and God’s plan for our lives.

    Key Themes:

    • The tension between wanting to obey God and the pull of self-interest.
    • The challenge of obeying human authority, especially when leaders are imperfect.
    • Joshua’s commands to the Israelites and their response of full submission.
    • The importance of unity and collective obedience in fulfilling God’s purposes.

    Study Notes:

    1. Joshua’s Commands (Joshua 1:10-15)

    • Joshua instructs the people to prepare provisions as they prepare to cross the Jordan.
    • This marks a transition from reliance on supernatural provision (manna) to taking responsibility for their sustenance.
    • The Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh are reminded of their duty to help their fellow Israelites claim their inheritance before settling in their own land.
    • This obedience required sacrifice, patience, and trust in God’s timing.

    2. The People’s Response (Joshua 1:16-18)

    • The Israelites pledge wholehearted obedience: “We will do, we will go, we will obey.”
    • They affirm Joshua’s leadership, recognizing that God is with him as He was with Moses.
    • Their commitment underscores the importance of obedience for spiritual growth and collective success.
    • They recognize that disobedience carries serious consequences.

    Lessons for Today:

    • Obedience is foundational: It is necessary for spiritual growth, leadership, and God’s blessings.
    • Faith and trust are required: Obedience often means stepping into the unknown, trusting God’s plans even when they don’t align with our expectations.
    • Sacrifice may be necessary: Just as the 2½ tribes had to leave their land and fight for others, we may be called to serve without immediate personal benefit.
    • Encouragement for leaders: The Israelites’ obedience strengthened Joshua’s leadership—our obedience can encourage those leading us in faith.

    Reflection Questions:

    • How do you respond when obedience requires sacrifice, patience, or trust?
    • Are there areas in your life where you struggle to submit to authority? How can you align your attitude with biblical principles?
    • What can you learn from the Israelites’ willingness to obey wholeheartedly?

Final Thought: Obedience may not always be easy, but it is essential. It is the foundation of spiritual growth, the key to effective leadership, and the pathway to God’s blessings. May we, like the Israelites, say: “We will do, we will go, we will obey.”
