The Consequences of Forsaking the Lord. (2 Chronicles 21: 1-20) Sep 11, 2026

Today’s episode is titled “The Consequences of Forsaking the Lord.”

We all know that sin has consequences. We all know that turning away from the Lord carries a cost, but what do those consequences actually look like?

How severe can they become, and how far-reaching can the fallout be?

There are many answers to those questions found across the Bible, but since we’re studying 2 Chronicles today, we’re going to look at a passage that illustrates some of those consequences with real clarity.

Chapter 21 introduces us to Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, a man who inherited a godly legacy but chose a very different path. His story is a stark reminder that forsaking the Lord is never a small matter. It affects families, nations, and futures. And it shows us what happens when a leader abandons the God who blessed his father.

Turn with me to 2 Chronicles 21, and let’s look together at the consequences of forsaking the Lord….

    The Battles We All Face (2 Chronicles 20: 1-37) Sep 10, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today’s episode is titled “How to Face Life’s Problems.” And that title captures the heart of 2 Chronicles 20.

In our last episode, Jehoshaphat responded beautifully to a rebuke, with humility, repentance, and restoration. But now, in chapter 20, he faces something far more frightening: a crisis so overwhelming that he has no human solution.

    A vast army approaches.

    The nation is terrified.

    Jehoshaphat himself is afraid.

    The situation is impossible.

And yet, what he does next is one of the most encouraging and practical lessons in Scripture for anyone facing the problems of life, whether those problems are emotional, financial, relational, spiritual, or simply the pressures of everyday living.

Jehoshaphat shows us how to respond when fear strikes, and how to pray when you don’t know what to do.

How to trust when the odds are against you, how to worship when the battle is not yet won, and also how to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.

    Responding to a Rebuke. (2 Chronicles 19: 1-11) Sep 09, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

Today’s episode is titled “How to Respond to a Rebuke.”

In our last episode, Jehoshaphat made a dangerous alliance with Ahab. We saw how he listened to the wrong voices, followed the wrong counsel, and how he nearly lost his life because of it.

Now, in chapter 19, he returns home, and then God sends a prophet to rebuke him.

What Jehoshaphat does next is one of the most beautiful moments in his life. He doesn’t try to defend himself. He does not justify his actions, and thankfully he doesn’t imprison the prophet, as we sadly saw Ahab do yesterday. Instead, he responds with humility. He receives the rebuke, he corrects his course, and he leads the nation into deeper obedience.

This is why I believe that today’s chapter 19 teaches us something every believer needs to learn:

How to respond when God confronts us.

How to respond when we are corrected.

How to respond when we are rebuked.

So, let’s explore how to respond to a rebuke….

    The Danger of False Preachers. (2 Chronicles 18: 1-34) Sep 08, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

Today episode is titled “The Danger of False Preachers.” And that title, I believe, captures the central warning of 2 Chronicles 18.

In our last episode, we saw Jehoshaphat at his best. He was balanced, wise, faithful, obedient, strengthening the nation spiritually and practically. But now, in chapter 18, we see Jehoshaphat at his most vulnerable.

He forms a dangerous alliance with Ahab, the wicked king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, and surrounds himself with false prophets who tell him exactly what he wants to hear. He also ignores the one true prophet who speaks the word of the Lord, and he walks straight into a battle he should never have entered.

Chapter 18 is an important reminder that not everyone who claims to speak for God actually does, and not every preacher is trustworthy. Not every prophet is faithful, and not every voice that sounds spiritual is true.

Today, I hope we will discover the danger of being seduced by false voices, and what happens when a Godly person listens to the wrong preachers, teachers, prophets or even influencers…..

    How to Live a Balanced Life. (2 Chronicles 17: 1-19) Sep 07, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

I’ve always admired people who seemed to live balanced lives — people who developed both their minds and their bodies, who cultivated both discipline and joy, who lived with both conviction and compassion. But for a long time, I never preached a sermon on balance, because I didn’t see that concept explicitly taught in Scripture.

In this book, one of the kings is described by more than one commentator as balanced. His life gives us a practical, biblical example of what balance looks like, and how we can cultivate it ourselves. That king is Jehoshaphat.

He is a king who strengthens the nation militarily, but also spiritually.

He builds fortifications but also sends out teachers of the law.

He expands Judah’s influence but also deepens Judah’s devotion.

He is active, but he is prayerful.

He is courageous, but he is humble.

He is strategic, but he is dependent on God.

Jehoshaphat shows us what it looks like to live a life that is not lopsided and not spiritually thin, not spiritually frantic, not spiritually inconsistent, but balanced. So today, we’re going to explore 2 Chronicles 17 and discover how Jehoshaphat cultivated balance in his life and leadership — and how we can do the same….

    Don’t Rest on Your Laurels. (2 Chronicles 16 1-14) Sep 04, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

We all know believers who started well and ended poorly. Men and women who were once zealous for the Lord, who influenced others, who walked faithfully, but who, later in life, drifted, weakened, or stopped trusting God as they once did.

Apparently, the Lord thinks we need to be reminded of that truth because He repeatedly records stories of people who began well but finished badly. The Bible is full of them: Saul, Solomon, Joash, and Amaziah, to name a few.

And now, in 2 Chronicles 16, we meet another: King Asa. Asa began well. He trusted the Lord, and he led the nation into covenant renewal. But later in his life, something changed. He stopped trusting the Lord, and he relied on human strategy instead of divine strength. He hardened his heart against God’s Word, and he even refused to seek the Lord when he became ill.

His story stands as a warning and an invitation to every believer: remember that a good beginning does not guarantee a good ending. Faithfulness yesterday does not replace faithfulness today, and you cannot rest on your laurels.

    A Strategy for Renewal. (2 Chronicles 15: 1-19) Sep 03, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

Today’s episode is titled “A Strategy for Renewal.” And that title, I think, captures the heartbeat of 2 Chronicles 15. This is a chapter that shows us how God renews His people, not by accident, not by emotion, not through crisis, although he can and does all of those things. But instead through a clear, God‑given strategy.

Renewal is not just for moments of desperation; it can happen in moments of calm. Renewal is also for the seasons of blessing and can be part of the everyday rhythm of life.

Chapter 15 will also teach us that renewal begins with listening to God’s Word and continues by seeking God wholeheartedly, but renewal requires courageous obedience, and renewal is sustained by perseverance, not emotion.

It is a chapter about how God rebuilds a life, how He restores a nation, and how He strengthens His people for the long haul. And it can speak directly into our lives today, because every believer needs renewal. Not just once, and not just in crisis, but again and again, in good times and bad.

It is a chapter about consistency, perseverance, and wholehearted devotion, themes that again run straight into the New Testament, where Jesus calls us to abide in Him, and where Paul urges us to continue steadfastly in the grace of God.

    In Good Time and Bad. (2 Chronicles 14: 1-15) Sep 02, 2026

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

Life is not lived in one emotional key. We move through seasons — seasons of peace and seasons of pressure, seasons of rest and seasons of battle, seasons where everything seems to flourish and seasons where everything seems to fall apart. How do we walk with God in both? How do we remain faithful in good times and in bad?

In 2 Chronicles 14, we meet King Asa, a man who experienced both of these extremes. He inherited a kingdom in turmoil, yet God gave him a season of peace. He enjoyed years of rest yet later faced an overwhelming enemy. And in both seasons, in the calm and in the crisis, Asa shows us what it means to seek the Lord.

This chapter is a chapter about consistency, about seeking God when things are going well, and seeking Him just as earnestly when things are going badly.

So today, we’re going to explore Asa’s story. We’re going to see how God strengthened him in peace, sustained him in battle, and taught him to rely on divine power rather than human strength, and we’re going to discover what it means for us, in our own good times and bad.

    When You Feel Overwhelmed. (2 Chronicles 13: 1-22) Sep 01, 2026

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

My title for this episode is “When You Feel Overwhelmed.” And I suspect that’s something every one of us has experienced at some point and understands.

All of us have lived through moments when life felt bigger than our strength. Moments when we felt outnumbered, outmatched, or simply out of options.

Sometimes it’s not one big single crisis; it’s the slow accumulation of pressures that finally becomes too much. Sometimes it’s the unexpected blow that knocks the wind out of our sails, or it follows a long season of discouragement that wears us down. Whatever form it takes, we all know what it is to feel overwhelmed.

And so, my question is: What do you do when that happens and how do you respond?

In the Old Testament, one king found himself in exactly that situation. He was factually outnumbered and overwhelmed, facing an enemy he could not defeat, a crisis he could not control, and consequences he could not escape. And what he did in that moment is exactly what we should do in ours.

The Cause of all Our Spiritual Failures (2 Chronicles 12: 1-16) Aug 31, 2026
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

This Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

    Episode Notes:

I wonder if sometimes we are even aware of what spiritual failure actually looks like in our daily lives. Sometimes we can look in the mirror and notice an attitude, a compromise, or a choice that runs entirely contrary to the Word of God. Sometimes, it is easy to spot; it's an outward, undeniable disobedience to what Scripture plainly and clearly commands. Sometimes it is not so obvious but serious, nonetheless.

But what is the root cause of such failure? Why can we so easily drift away from the source of our life and peace?

Today, we are diving into 2 Chronicles chapter 12 to look at someone who learned the cause and consequences of spiritual failure the hard way. We are continuing the narrative around Rehoboam, in which contradictions are laid bare in a dramatic account that reveals God’s loving discipline and breath-taking mercy in the most surprising ways.
