Danny J and her good friend Ashly Rae sat down in our Tulum studio to talk about living in alignment with your true self and embodying your core values. We are all born with an innate knowing of who we are. You know, you know, you know. You’ve always known. Ashly thinks its about time we all get back to that.

Ep. 232: Let the Chips Fall Where They May Oct 09, 2021
    Show notes

“Let whoever think whatever.” When it comes to showing up authentically, whether online or in our real lives, it’s a lot easier said than done. Intellectually, we understand that we can’t control what other people think. We know we should just be our true selves. But in reality, it takes a lot of courage! Vulnerability is scary, but if you want to be loved and respected for who you are, you have to show that to the people around you. You have to let the chips fall, wherever that may be.

    Showing up authentically online [1:38]

It’s still important to have boundaries [5:30]

    Your vulnerability builds trust [6:36]

Trust that you can learn and change [10:35]

    Having nuanced conversations [14:40]

Sometimes saying “I don’t know” is the best response [17:45]

    You can’t control someone else’s perception [20:19]

The value of letting people see the “real” you [25:38]

Ep. 231: Why Your Anger Is Holding You Back Oct 07, 2021
    Show notes

Let’s be honest, there’s a lot to be angry about in this world. But what good does your anger actually do? Sure, it can feel good to have something to fight for, but are you making your own life happier? Are you changing the world in a positive way? Your anger can feel right, but its often holding you back in more ways than one. We’re firm believers in the power of choice, and that includes your emotions. Especially when your emotions are preventing you from living your own Best Life.

Emotions are always valid, but you have to learn to manage them [3:52]

    The self-righteousness of anger [5:02]

Let yourself have the full experience [6:41]

A lack of nuance and a lack of conversation [8:35]

Choosing anger only hurts you [9:50]

Different perspectives can feel like a betrayal of self [12:08]

You can’t cater to everyone [14:40]

You get your own say, let that be enough [16:59]

Logical fallacies and confirmation biases [19:33]

Negative emotions might just be a distraction [23:00]

Ep. 230: You Don't Have To Do It All Oct 01, 2021
    Show notes

Can you do ALL the things? Sure! But there’s one major caveat: you can’t do them all at once. There will always be more things to do, and yes, you probably “should” do a lot, but it’s not possible to do it all. And when you expect that level of perfection from yourself, you are unwittingly setting yourself up for failure. At the end of the day, you have to remind yourself: you don’t have to do that!

Can you and should you do ALL the things? [2:03]

You CAN do everything, but you can’t do it all at once [4:33]

Finding confidence in what you DON’T have [7:12]

Understanding your own hierarchy of needs [8:51]

Setting yourself up for success [11:38]

There will always be more to do [14:17]

The power in saying no [17:35]

Play to your own strengths [22:30]

Ep. 229: What To Do When The Person You’re Dating “Isn’t Ready” For A Relationship Sep 29, 2021
    Show notes

Could someone really not be “ready” for a relationship, or is that just code for not being into you? And is it a bad idea to get involved with someone who says they aren’t quite ready? When it comes to matters of the heart, it all comes down to trust: it really is the only thing we have control over. Trust what others tell you, and trust yourself to handle whatever comes your way. That’s the best way forward.

    “I’m not ready for a relationship” [2:08]

    What do YOU want? [4:57]

Divorce is not the same for everyone, and the reasons do matter [8:24]

Trust that your “Hell YES” is out there [10:40]

Trusting what the other person tell you [11:20]

Trust yourself to handle it if it ends [14:38]

If you want more, you need to have the conversation [15:52]

It might be painful, but it’s temporary [19:12]

Good people are not in short supply [20:42]

Ep. 228: The Value (& Judgements) We Place On Our Bodies Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

Body insecurity might be one of the most universal feelings women experience—and hey, men aren’t exempt either. Society places a lot of importance on the way we look, and the language we use to talk about our bodies often skews towards toxicity. A body is just a body. It’s not inherently good, nor inherently bad. Insecurities plague almost everyone. Maybe it’s time to embrace the freedom that comes with releasing those insecurities of ours.

    The No Excuses mentality [1:34]

Getting out of the perpetual diet cycle [3:42]

The problem with “getting back into shape” [6:37]

The value of realistic & unrealistic goals [9:43]

Be discerning with your mental energy and time [12:31]

You can’t judge someone’s health by how they look [13:55]

Examining the value you get out of your physique [18:23]

    Insecurities are not objective [22:32]

The freedom of releasing insecurity [26:48]

Enjoy where you are, because there will always be more to want [28:17]

    Ep. 227: Self-Care by Creating Space Sep 11, 2021
    Show notes

Time is a luxury, one that many people say they can’t afford. But we’d like to argue that time is a luxury you can’t afford to ignore. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that if you ignore things when they get bad, life will find a way to force you to take some time. Danny-J had a hell of a year, and at this point is an expert on taking time out to take care of herself. We wanted to give you a few tips to create some space so you can keep living the Best Life.

A luxury we can’t afford NOT to have [3:05]

Those who needed the pause of 2020 [5:01]

Giving yourself permission to take time off [6:39]

A 5 minute daily practice of stillness [8:25]

Taking time off gets you back faster [11:43]

You don’t need answers right away [15:14]

Ep. 226: Manifesting Your Insecurities Sep 09, 2021
    Show notes

It’s often said that the things you’re most sensitive about, or the things that you’re most afraid of are the things that tend to show up over and over again. If you’re always worried about your forehead, or your cluttered home, or your brand new business… chances are, you’re leaving the door wide open for the peanut gallery to come in and make snarky comments. The solution? Own your shit. Maybe what they’re saying is true, but if you own it… well, it just won’t matter anymore.

You manifest what you worry about [2:16]

Leaving space for comments from the peanut gallery [10:02]

It’s not a sign for you to give up [10:49]

Own your shit, and nothing will phase you [13:53]

Maybe it’s true, but it doesn’t matter anymore [17:31]

Ownership is the way through [21:30]
