Ep. 505: 10 Ways to Cultivate Meaningful Friendships Jul 10, 2024
    Show notes

There’s a part of getting older that we never expected: it’s getting harder to maintain meaningful friendships. The people who were once our tight-knit circle have become strangers as career, families, and lives change. It’s not a crime to outgrow friendships, but if we want meaningful connections, then we’re going to have to make a real effort in cultivating them. In this episode, Jill is sharing 10 tips we can all start implementing to make and keep deep friendships.

Hold your pity and your judgement [21:07]

Give people the benefit of the doubt [22:59]

Ep. 504: The Results of Our 30-Day Instagram Reels Challenge Jul 05, 2024
    Show notes

We’re fresh off a 30-Day Instagram Reels Challenge and our results were… nothing like we imagined they would be. When we started our businesses online, we never predicted that we’d somehow have to turn into videographers, too. So we figured we’d lean in to Reels and see how it changed our followings. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. Well, at least not in a glaringly obvious way. We improved our video editing, pissed some people off, and learned a lot about what actually grows a social media account. And thank god it’s over now.

Why we did a 30 day Reels Challenge [2:29]

Trying to mix your personal brand with what’s trending [8:06]

You need to have some edge to you [10:13]

The kinds of content that helps you grow [13:25]

Thinking about the content that we engage with [17:35]

Anticlimactic results (for some of us) [19:06]

Getting into the habit of daily posting [21:03]

A new appreciation for the work that video takes [23:12]

Ep. 503: The Three M's of Building A Personal Brand Jul 03, 2024
    Show notes

We’ve been in the online space for decades now so we’ve become somewhat of experts at creating personal brands—it’s why you’re listening to this podcast today. And despite the space feeling “saturated” there’s never been a better time to start an online business than now. If you’re hopeful about starting an online business, or even if you already have one and need to dial in your branding, Jill is sharing her 3-part formula for developing a personal brand that helps you grow an audience, build trust, and actually sell.

What “personal branding” even means [1:39]

People want to connect with other people [4:41]

    What sets you apart [6:56]

    Branding as pre-emptive selling [9:11]

Mastery—what are you an expert of? [12:08]

Methodology—how do you do what you do? [14:36]

Me—who is the person behind the account? [18:31]

Ep. 502: The Man vs. Bear Debate Jun 28, 2024
    Show notes

If we were trapped in a forest, would we rather be stuck with a man or a bear? If you’re a woman, you already know our answer because yours is probably the same: the bear. It’s not that we hate men, but in our experiences, men can be scary, unkind, and unsafe. Every single woman we know has a story about some man acting creepy and aggressive. “No” is never enough of an answer for that type of guy, and there’s always that lingering fear that by telling him no, he’ll get angry and take it out on us. At least the bear will just eat us quickly and be done with it. Of course not every single man is a weirdo or a creep, but the chances of meeting a weirdo creep are high, and unlike bears, they give no warning sign before they decide to hurt us. We’ll take our chances with the bear.

Unwanted attention from men in public [1:20]

Why women choose the bear [5:33]

“No” should be a complete answer [7:51]

What men don’t understand about their own behavior [10:05]

The police can’t (and won’t) do anything [13:21]

Men aren’t listening to us [15:48]

A lack of respectful male role models [17:19]

    Our advice to men [18:50]

Ep. 501: Inspiration Porn, Fake Vulnerability, and Performative Good Deeds Jun 26, 2024
    Show notes

Is it just us, or is everything on social media just engagement farming now? People are posting videos of them crying or doing “good deeds” because it get views, and it feels really phony and a little bit cringe. We’re all for vulnerability online, but there’s a difference in sharing vulnerably and pretending to be sad so that you get likes on Instagram. Don’t even get us started on the stealth-filming of real people living their lives… Is there a right way to share personal things online or are we all doomed to pretend this shit is real forever?

It takes time to heal, but it is possible [0:58]

Who takes the blame for infidelity? [4:12]

Taking the stigma out of talking about affairs [6:12]

Performative vulnerability on social media [8:16]

Are you only a good person if it’s for views? [11:31]

    Feeling like a voyeur [14:16]

Stealth filming and a loss of privacy [17:22]

The exploitative nature of inspiration porn [20:32]

The “right” way to share your good deeds [24:59]

You attract what you’re putting out [28:33]

    Show notes

Grief seems to have been a recurring theme in our lives, but we know now that it’s not just us—everyone is grieving. Grief isn’t always caused by big tragedies and devastating events. It can happen in the every day moments of rejection and misunderstanding, it can happen in the moments we feel overlooked and invisible. The world is silently grieving the versions of ourselves we’ve lost to the everyday pains in life. Today we brought back one of our favorite guests, Christina Rasmussen, an expert on grief, to talk about invisible loss and how we can work through our grief and get back to that essential, thriving self who is excited to wake up and change the world every day.

Ep. 497: Get Yourself A Conscious Man Jun 12, 2024
    Show notes

You know we’re into personal development here, but just because we are doesn’t mean that the men in our lives are, too. Everyone knows you can’t force someone to change, and making them become more self-aware or spiritually conscious is no exception—and maybe that’s a good thing. Our differences are something to be celebrated, not changed! So while it might be nice to have a man who’s just as interested in bettering himself as you are, make sure you’re appreciating you’re man for who he is.

Ep. 496: Can We Return to Innocence? Jun 07, 2024
    Show notes

We’ve seen some shit and like it or not, we’re left a little jaded after all the pain, mistrust, and heartbreak. Once upon a time, we were innocent and optimistic about life, but now we just feel like bitter old hags. Anyone else? Okay, we might be a little overdramatic, but it feels like that sometimes! When your old self “dies,” it doesn’t feel possible to get that hopeful feeling back. Even if we can’t un-know the things we know now, we can at least let our pain fuel us into being better people.

Hiring someone new in the ChatGPT era [1:37]

    Are we too jaded? [7:26]

    Nothing feels safe anymore [12:01]

    Ignorance is bliss [14:19]

    Once you know, you can’t un-know [17:02]

    Grieving your old self [17:58]

Letting hardship turn you into a better person [22:08]

Making peace with your choices [25:38]
