The Beginner’s Garden with Jill McSheehy

Welcome to the Beginner’s Garden Podcast! This is the podcast with easy-to-understand resources, tips, and information to help beginning gardeners get the most out of their gardening adventure — big or small. When I began gardening in 2013, I scoured books and Internet resources to find all the information I could. Although good information was abundant, I had trouble understanding all the gardening lingo and sifting through the information to figure out what would work for me. In this podcast, my aim is to provide helpful information while explaining the gardening lingo as we go. I want to equip YOU to have the best start ever this gardening season!

143- Gardening in the Heat Jul 07, 2020
    Show notes

No matter where you live, you will most likely have to deal with hot weather throughout the summer. Your hot season might be shorter than mine in the southeastern US, but you likely have one. It was a surprise to me when I first started gardening that not all of my crops handle the hot summer well.

How do you make the most of your summer gardening in the highest heat? Nicole Burke of Gardenary joins me today on the Beginner's Garden Podcast to discuss how to best handle our gardens in the heat. Click below to listen or continue reading.

139- Organic Pesticides and their Uses with Joe Lamp'l Jun 09, 2020
    Show notes

Most of us set out to do just that. But what happens when you see pests munching on your crops? Do you ignore them? Look up a homemade "organic" pesticide? Purchase one from the store? Or are you tempted to throw in the towel and find the strongest pesticide on the home market?

We all want a healthy garden but are faced with those questions when insects come to our gardens. It always helps to talk to successful organic gardeners and ask what works. But I wanted to go a step further.

In this episode of the Beginner's Garden Podcast, I asked Joe Lamp'l about not only his personal practices but also which organic pesticides he recommends and how to use them.
