We will get the performance of the Planet BBQ series that has been airing on PBS and we will also talk about a host of other topics to include griddle cooking, the growth of Brazilian style cooking (on cages), the pizza over/cooking surge, what rends will fizzle at the end of the year and which ones will see greater interest and we will end by getting his favorite fall recipe and how to execute it!

9:35pm - After Steven, I will be joined by 3rd Tuesday of the month guest and creator of Cookout News website, Wes Wright. Tonight Wes and I will make a run through all of the major and not major brands in the industry and get updates on where they sit as summer draws to a close. (August 8, 2023 - Hour Two)

10:14 - Leading off the 2nd hour tonight is the CEO of Blackstone Products, Roger Dahle. Blackstone is the name that the majority of people associate backyard griddle cooking with and it's also the brand leading the way when it comes to units sold! Tonight we talk to Roger about the state of griddle cooking from a business perspective and where he sees it going over the next few years. We will also dig into the griddle product a bit more (in case you are in the market for one) and we will also talk about their Gen 2 pizza oven.

10:35pm - With the remaining time tonight, I will break down the current Memphis in May disaster that is taking place. If you aren't tracking it, but you are a fan of the event (at least the BBQ contest part) then you should know it is in a very dire situation at the time of this newsletter. You might recall there were extensive renovations to Tom Lee Park recently and the MIM Festival this year evidentially did EXTENSIVE damage to the park...to the tune of $1.4 million dollars!!! The Memphis in May International Festival is being required to pay a little more than $675,000 to the Memphis River Parks Partnership to remedy those repairs and it's due on August 12th. Could this spell the end of MIM forever, will the event have to move to a new location next year and going forward, does MIM have $675,000 to pay out for those listed damages?? I will get you up to date as we close the show tonight!

Dan McGrath (3 Eyz BBQ??)...One of the things I noticed in this segment is that back in 2012…the “cabinet style” smokers were very popular. Every panel member was using some style of cabinet cooker in this interview and there were additional brands mentioned as well…that has certainly changed over the last 11 years…some of the names mentioned are no longer in business but they were pretty significant brands back in the day…(Spicewine and Rebel). Stumps smokers is still in business and so is Backwoods…I wanted a Stumps AND a Backwoods in the worst way back in that timeframe but never pulled the trigger…but some many of the top teams were using these style cookers because teams were winning with them…maybe someday I’ll get a Stumps…we’ll see.

Brandon Bressner and Ryan Hoogland join me to talk about their fancy for these types of cookers and how that grew into creating the first ever "Griddle Battle" that took place during a KCBS competition that Brandon organizes in Eureka, IL this past July 15th. We will get a recap of the event and what their plans are (if any) to grow this sector of competition cooking!
