Atlanta-based metal band Alluvial, formed in 2017, channels a haunting blend of rapid-fire polyrhythms, sludgy atmospheres, and tight grooves. Comprising Kevin Muller (vocals), Wes Hauch (guitar, vocals), Tim Walker (bass), and Zach Dean (drums), the band recently unleashed their 2024 EP, "Death Is But a Door," aiming for an even more sinister sound than their previous album, "Sarcoma."
Guitarist Wes Hauch, a recent guest on the Vulgar Display of Podcast, shares the band's creative ethos, expressing a perpetual pursuit of darkness in their evolving sound and imagery in their videos. The EP represents their commitment to intensifying their message and vibe, drawing parallels to iconic shifts in heaviness seen in legendary albums like Slayer's "South of Heaven" and "Reign In Blood."
Having transitioned from their instrumental debut, "The Deep Longing for Annihilation," Alluvial introduced vocalist Kevin Muller in "Sarcoma," resulting in a remarkable synergy within the band. "Death Is But a Door'' showcases the evolution of their cohesion as a unit, delving into bleaker and heavier territories while maintaining a delicate balance.
Rooted in death metal, Alluvial's sonic exploration extends beyond genre confines. From the thrash influences of Pantera and Metallica to the darker grunge tones of Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, the band remains committed to keeping their audience on their toes with a diverse musical palette.
Wes Hauch emphasizes the band's intent to create meaningful yet intense songs that elicit both terror and heartbreak. Despite the brutality inherent in their music, Alluvial navigates twists into clean passages and atmospheric ambience, inviting listeners to discover new dimensions within their compositions.
With the collective background of its members deeply entrenched in the death metal scene, including experiences with bands like The Faceless and Suffocation, Alluvial's music promises a brutal journey. Hauch envisions their records as immersive experiences, a place where listeners can find solace with a unique tint to their perception.
In their pursuit of musical exploration, Alluvial transcends gritty brutality, showcasing technical prowess alongside atmospheric depth. Wes Hauch affirms that the upcoming EP, more furious than their previous work, retains the unmistakable essence of Alluvial. As they continue to craft a distinctive sonic experience, the band invites listeners to delve into a world where influences meld into an unparalleled soundscape.
Alluvial is gearing up for a nationwide U.S. tour, slated to kick off in January as the tour support for Veil Of Maya. This extensive tour will see them sharing the stage with fellow bands AngelMaker, Reflections, Left To Suffer, and Until I Wake.
