Montreal’s own Alex Martel, frontman of the high-energy rock/metal band Deadly Apples, recently made a appearance on the Vulgar Display of Podcast, offering an unfiltered look into the band’s evolution, the making of their latest album DISTRESS, and the current state of rock music. Known for his unpredictable stage presence and raw vocal intensity, Martel did not hold back in a conversation that was as engaging as Deadly Apples’ electrifying live performances.
Throughout the discussion, Martel reflected on Deadly Apples’ reputation for bringing danger and unpredictability back to rock music—a stark contrast to what he describes as an increasingly “safe and bland” scene. He shared stories from the band’s intense live performances, which often see him diving into crowds and immersing himself completely in the energy of the audience.
Martel delved deep into the creative process behind DISTRESS, Deadly Apples’ latest full-length album. Produced by drummer and composer Antoine Lamothe, the album pushes the band’s signature sound to its extremes—darker, heavier, yet more accessible than ever. With a lineup of rock heavyweights contributing to the project, including Nine Inch Nails alumni Danny Lohner and Filter’s Richard Patrick, DISTRESS is already shaping up to be one of the band’s most defining works.
“Having guys like Richard Patrick and Danny Lohner involved was huge for us,” Martel said. “They bring an energy that aligns perfectly with our vision. This record is cinematic, chaotic, and deeply personal.”
With Deadly Apples having toured alongside some of the biggest names in rock and metal—Rob Zombie, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, and Rammstein—Martel shared what it was like to be on the road with such legendary acts. He discussed the invaluable lessons learned and the stark differences in rock audiences across the globe, from the wild crowds in South America to the passionate fans in Japan and Europe.
As DISTRESS gears up for its highly anticipated release, Martel teased upcoming tour plans, more collaborations, and an explosive new music video for their latest single, “Volatile.” With their signature unpredictability, fans can expect nothing short of chaos and intensity.
For those who missed Alex Martel’s appearance on the Vulgar Display of Podcast, the episode is now available on all major streaming platforms. If his interview was any indication, Deadly Apples is ready to make a major impact once again—louder, darker, and more volatile than ever.
