Arts organizations are losing what was previously promised grant money by the tens of millions of dollars. In Henry VI Part 2, in Act IV Scene 2, Shakespeare has Dick the Butcher saying “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.”

Apparently, in the US we are starting with the artists instead.

And it's terrifying.

LA knows how fussy Owen gets when she gives him an online Shakespeare quiz that is TERRIBLE. And it kind of absolutely delights her. Because it pokes the bear (Owen).

In this episode, LA gives Owen a 44 question Shakespeare quiz from the website Quizlet.

And it is FUCKING HORRIBLE. Not only are the so-called "answers" to some of the questions completely ridiculous and WRONG, but things are misspelled. Like normal things. Like, words that should never be misspelled on a TEACHING WEBSITE.

Sigh. The state of education in the old US of A is REALLY scary.

We are truly bummed. The world has lost a major light, a star, a talent without compare, a "National Treasure," as King Charles said.
Dame Margaret Natalie Smith passed away on September 27, 2024 at the ripe old age of 89.
This is our heartfelt tribute.
We love you, Maggie - rest well. And make some amazing art with all your compatriots in the hereafter!!!

That being said, this episode looks at Shakespeare from a designer's point of view. We welcome four fabulous guests - Rychard Curtiss, Nancy Nicholls, Kristopher Buggey, and Rob Duties - to discuss how a set, lighting, costumes, or sound design work in a Shakespeare production and how it differs from, say, a modern musical or a contemporary drama.

There are all KINDS of animals in the canon - mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles - they're all in there!!!
In this episode, we begin to scratch (ha!!) the surface... of the winter lion, the Hyrcanian tiger, and baited bear; the little shrew and the necessary cat; bottled spiders and horned toads; brave harts and gentle hinds; the forward horse and preposterous ass; the temple-haunting martlet, morning lark, nightly owl, and winging crow; the nibbling sheep and hunger-starved wolves; the chafed boar, princely palfrey, fat oxen, and spotted leopards; stranger curs, mastiffs, hellhounds...
