What REALLY went wrong for Auburn against Florida? We bring in a football film expert to dive deep into the X’s and O’s and break down exactly where things fell apart on both sides of the football.
Defensively, we look at the missed tackles, breakdowns, third-down problems and what Auburn has to clean up moving forward. Offensively, we break down the issues that kept the Tigers from finding any consistency and where the execution has to improve. Was it scheme, personnel, execution — or a combination of everything?
Most importantly, we look ahead to Vanderbilt coming to Jordan-Hare and identify what Auburn MUST fix before another SEC matchup. The Florida loss exposed some real problems, and now we find out whether Alex Golesh and his staff can get them corrected.

Where exactly did things go wrong for Auburn football against Florida? After the Tigers’ frustrating loss at Jordan-Hare Stadium, head coach Alex Golesh offered an explanation for one of the game’s most troubling numbers: 24 missed tackles.
On this episode of First Call from Auburn Daily, Christian Rauh breaks down Golesh’s Monday press conference, the defensive mistakes that helped Florida pull away and what Auburn needs to fix before facing Vanderbilt.
Golesh attributed roughly 90% of Auburn’s missed tackles to alignment issues, particularly before the snap. Christian examines what that explanation means, whether better positioning could have prevented some of Florida’s explosive plays and what questions it raises for defensive coordinator DJ Durkin.
The numbers from the Florida game are difficult to ignore. Golesh said Auburn’s 24 missed tackles contributed to 120 additional yards for the Gators, who also produced 11 explosive plays. Florida’s third-and-20 touchdown run near the end of the first half was especially damaging, and Auburn’s struggles continued after halftime as the Gators quickly extended their lead.
Christian discusses the critical stretch spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second, when Auburn went from being in the game to facing a 17-point deficit. He also examines Golesh’s message about coaching the mistakes, moving forward and continuing to build the foundation of his program.
But how much patience should Auburn fans have with that process after a loss like this?
The Tigers now turn their attention to Vanderbilt and true freshman quarterback Jared Curtis. Christian explores whether Auburn can correct its pre-snap alignment, reduce its missed tackles and earn Golesh’s first SEC victory. With Vanderbilt having beaten Auburn in recent seasons, this matchup carries additional significance for the Tigers.
The episode also takes a broader look at a loaded SEC weekend and what the results could reveal about Auburn’s remaining schedule. Texas faces Tennessee, Oklahoma meets Georgia, Ole Miss takes on Florida, Texas A&M plays LSU, and Missouri travels to Mississippi State. Christian explains why those games could provide useful context for evaluating Auburn’s opponents and its path through conference play.
Was Auburn’s tackling problem really an alignment problem? What adjustments should DJ Durkin make against Vanderbilt? And how much can the Tigers improve as Golesh continues building his program?

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown is taking too many sacks, but is the offensive line entirely to blame? We dive into one of the most interesting stats surrounding the Auburn offense: Brown’s time from snap to throw and what it could tell us about Auburn’s growing sack problem.
Is Byrum Brown holding the football too long? Are Auburn’s wide receivers struggling to get open, is Brown taking too long to process the defense, or is he simply trying to create too much when plays break down? We break down the numbers, the offensive line protection, and what Alex Golesh and Auburn must fix after the disappointing loss to Florida.
With Vanderbilt coming to Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn needs answers quickly. Can Byrum Brown and the Tigers clean up the passing game, protect the quarterback, and get the Auburn offense back on track?

Auburn football’s 44-39 loss to Florida still stings, and the biggest concern coming out of the game is impossible to ignore: 24 missed tackles. On this Monday edition of Auburn Daily’s First Call, Christian Rauh and Daryl Dapprich break down the defensive mistakes, missed opportunities and discipline issues that cost the Tigers a chance to beat the Gators at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
According to Pro Football Focus, Auburn was credited with 24 missed tackles against Florida, including five apiece for Xavier Atkins and Da’Shawn Womack. Christian and Daryl explain how missed tackles near the line of scrimmage turned potential stops into manageable third downs, extended Florida drives and contributed to explosive plays. They revisit a particularly frustrating touchdown run on third and long and discuss why Auburn cannot afford to keep giving opponents extra yards in SEC play.
But the defense was not Auburn’s only problem.
Despite scoring 39 points, the Tigers failed to capitalize on several opportunities, including a possession that began at Florida’s eight-yard line following an interception but ended in a field goal. Christian and Daryl examine how those missed chances, costly penalties and Florida’s 17 unanswered points around halftime changed the game.
With Alex Golesh taking responsibility for the loss, the conversation turns to what Auburn can actually fix. Is this simply part of the process in Golesh’s first season, or does the coaching staff need to make personnel changes to improve tackling and discipline? Daryl argues that players who consistently wrap up and avoid unnecessary penalties need opportunities, regardless of their experience.
The Tigers now turn their attention to Vanderbilt. Christian asks what a meaningful improvement in tackling would look like, and Daryl sets a target of fewer than 10 missed tackles in the next game.
Later in the show, Daryl shares his firsthand experience covering Auburn versus Florida from the press box and sidelines at Jordan-Hare Stadium. He discusses interactions with some members of the Florida media, including an incident he recalls from the Final Four, and explains why he believes journalists should maintain professional standards while covering rivalry games. Those observations reflect Daryl’s personal experiences, not a characterization of every Florida reporter.
Can Auburn clean up its tackling before facing Vanderbilt? Should DJ Durkin and the defensive staff consider personnel changes? And how much of the Florida loss falls on missed opportunities by the offense?
Join Christian Rauh and Daryl Dapprich for First Call, Auburn Daily’s morning show covering Auburn Tigers football, SEC matchups and the biggest stories on the Plains.
