Happy New Year, everyone! This month’s episode is another short ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. This month, while I dream of the upcoming Dirty Pair bluray set, let's revisit some other space adventuring troublemakers from the same universe! That's right, it's 1983's Crusher Joe: The Movie! But will this movie crush it, or will it crush my heart? Ok, ok...lets drop the puns and check it out in this month's rewatch.

This year, Go Nagai's magical super heroine turned 50 years old! So what better time to have an episode in her honor? And joining me to talk all about her is No. 1 English-speaking Cutie Honey Fan (who has worked on many official American Cutie Honey releases!), Salvatore (aka @retrosofa)! We discuss not only the history of the franchise, but how even though Honey is a pulpy, sexy, and sometimes goofy Magical Girl originally created for boys, she influenced the Magical Girl genre in all sorts of ways we're still seeing today! Also in this episode: the decades-long argument of if Honey even counts as a magical girl, the appeal of giant Go Nagai monster women, and answering all your questions in this extra-long episode!

So who better to talk to me about this exciting event but my friend and fellow Slam Dunk fan, Tricia! For the first part of this episode, we talk a bit about Slam Dunk's history, its importance in Japanese sports, fandom, & BL culture, why it's such a beloved piece of work, and our general (spoiler-free!) thoughts on this new edition to it. Then, at around the 1:26:35 mark, we go total spoiler-zone & do a deep-dive of our thoughts on the work, along with sneaker talk, anime character Toon Squad Dream Teams, and your listener questions!

And joining me to chat about it is none other than the Tokusatsu Troubadour, Mach Dent! This month, I dig into a dark 80s fantasy OVA film with character designs by Yoshitaka Amano! No, it’s NOT that vampire one you’re thinking of–it’s the much lesser-known Amon Saga! The Saturday Anime series is back! These are episodes where we talk about anime that aired on the Saturday Anime block of Sci-Fi Channel back in the 90s on US Cable TV. This month, MDi is back to talk with me about a title that was once one of Pioneer Anime’s original flagship titles in the US, but has since kind of become forgotten---Green Legend Ran! Listen as we revisit this title to see if this environmental sci-fi fantasy OAV-edited-to-movie-for-Sci-Fi-Channel’s-broadcast still holds up, having to deal with the infamous WordFit System, and how this title is connected to....Snakes on a Plane???
