    The Animal That Changed You

The Animal That Changed You explores how extraordinary people have been changed by extraordinary animals. In this weekly show, Katya (writer and Life Coach for Dog People) and Jenny (founder and president of Better Together Dog Rescue) share their stories about soul-level relationships with animals or listen to a guest talk about how loving an animal has led them to where they are today. This co-hosting duo is not afraid to dive into the ups and downs that come with caring about animals or to be vulnerable and real about why increasing our compassion for them is good for the whole world.

The Importance of Community Involvement in Cat Rescue with Anna Dickerson-Homan May 04, 2022
    Show notes

Why is there a negative connotation around being a crazy cat person? Why don't more people get involved in Trap-Neuter-Release within their local communities? How can we look at taking care of homeless animals as an addition in our lives? How can we bear uncomfortable, difficult conversations in order to save more lives?

These are some of the many questions we explore today with Anna Dickerson-Homan, a cat rescuer and the force behind The Kitten Factory, with all those adorable pictures on Instagram! From feeding colonies to fostering kitties, she tells us how she tackles many of the feline issues (and myths) she faces so she can inspire more people to help orphaned kittens along with her. Because simply put: cats need our help! And community cats desperately need our help.

In today's meow-heavy episode, Anna and I chat about what sparked her passion for rescue, the hard work that goes into TNR, and why taking action, no matter how small, is what will truly help move the needle forward when it comes to saving animals. Just. Do. Something. It takes all of us. It affects all of us. We need you. They need you. And there are so many gifts to joining an animal-loving group.

In this episode, we’re deep-diving into some beautiful topics, including how she has learned to let go of her protectiveness and let people do what they do, the importance of being kind and being present for animals and children, the struggle to balance motherhood and purpose, and why an animal’s love is so particularly healing.

What Not to Do (Stories From My Own Experiences) Apr 06, 2022
    Show notes

We’re back with another solo episode. But today, I’m sharing 3 different stories of dangerous or dumb situations I put myself in because of animals. Although these stories are based on my own experiences, they are general safety tips to follow of what NOT to do!
I share some really not smart stuff I did - like getting in a small enclosed space with a stranger, walking into a stranger’s home to help a dog, and failing to know a dog’s limits which are necessary to keep everybody safe. What I'm saying, friendas and friendos is: save animals, help animals, rescue animals, love animals. But also do all of those things for yourself. Don't forget yourself.
This is a short episode but I hope my stories from the past serve as a gentle reminder to avoid putting yourself at risk or overlooking your own wellbeing, even if it’s for an animal you care about. You've got to take care of you so you can take care of animals.

She joins us today to talk about her mission to help aging animals. Sherri explains how Muttville began, why she ultimately decided to do something about the animal shelter conditions she'd witnessed, and how she continues to sustain a growing Muttville all these years later. I also ask Sherri an important question, one I feel she’s best qualified to answer: How do we know when it is the right time to say goodbye to our beloved?
In this episode, you’ll hear how beautiful it can be to care so much. You’ll hear about the ultimate goals for Muttville and why the mayor of San Francisco has officially declared a Muttville Senior Rescue Dog day across the city. You'll hear how among the ones who need it most - the precious oldies - there are those on the fighting line making a real difference. And you'll eagerly want to be part of it.
