This is preparation for the opening statements Monday, February 14, in the murder trial of retired SWAT cop Curtis Reeves who shot and killed Chad Oulson in a Florida movie theater on January 13, 2014. The show goes live at 10 am ET on Sunday, February 13.
In this LIVE show we're going to cover the half-dozen or so most important statutes in this case, and as time allows collectively watch the legal arguments made by each side in the 2017 self-defense immunity hearing of this case--we can expect those legal arguments to be largely replicated in this coming week's trial.

I've received numerous inquiries from Law of Self Defense Members to cover the subject of gun trusts. These are legal trusts that can be set up to act as the formal legal entity that owns firearms, fully-automatic firearms, suppressors, and other related regulated items.
As I often note, my own expertise is use-of-force law, not gun law. That said, I know many excellent attorneys who do have world-class knowledge of gun laws. Accordingly, I've reached out to one of them, Attorney Derek DeBrosse, of Munitions Law Group (http://munitionsgroup.com) out of Ohio, to be the first-ever guest on a Law of Self Defense live stream to discuss the subject of gun trusts.
Just this past Friday (Jan. 28) a lawyer friend of mine sent me a self-defense immunity WIN from Florida.
Specifically, the court in that case had conducted a self-defense immunity hearing for a defendant facing 20 years in prison. After the immunity hearing, the court granted the defendant immunity from prosecution and civil suit under Florida's self-defense immunity law.
So, instead of a lengthy and costly criminal prosecution, and the prospects of a conviction and 20 years in prison, this defendant got to simply go home, free of legal and civil liability, and free from any politically motivated prosecution.
I thought this case would be a great example to illustrate how self-defense immunity works in the real world, by stepping through the really excellent "Order to Dismiss" drafted by the court that granted this immunity.
Today's LIVE show with Attorney Andrew Branca of Law of Self Defense will focus on a case out of Wyoming that is a great case example of why representing yourself as your own attorney is a bad idea--and also why a superficial understanding of the law can be an extremely dangerous thing.
Marilyn Mosby, the State's Attorney for Baltimore, has reportedly just been indicted by a Federal grand jury on charges of perjury on a variety of mortgage and COVID hardship applications. If convicted on these charges Mosby is reportedly looking at as long as 30 years in Federal prison--and Federal prison time is REAL prison time, with little discounting for such things as good behavior.
In April 2015 a Baltimore resident by the name of Freddie Gray was caught up in a Baltimore Police Department sweep of an open-air drug market, and arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a knife. He was cuffed and placed in a police van. After some travel, the van was opened to find that Gray had suffered a serious neck injury, from which he would ultimately die some days later.
Although the investigation by the Baltimore PD would discover no unlawful conduct by any officer, hours before that investigation was finalized Mosby held an outdoor press conference announcing that six officers--including black and female officers--were being charged with crimes as serious as murder in the death of Gray.
The Baltimore PD investigators were shocked by this announcement, and even more so when Mosby declared that these charges were based on her own independent investigation she'd been running secretly.
Ultimately it would prove that there was zero evidence that any of the charged officers--or anyone else--had used any unlawful force upon Freddie Gray, and particularly not any force whatever to Gray's neck. After several officers were acquitted at trial, Mosby finally agreed to dismiss charges against the remaining officers. An independent Federal investigation by the DOJ also found no grounds for charging the officers. A separate administrative investigation by the Baltimore PD also found no misconduct, and every officer was eligible to return to duty.
So why were these six officers charged with crimes as serious as murder in the absence of any evidence of misconduct to support such charges? Join us for today's live stream to find out!
