    In Ottawa, execs of twitter, Facebook and google were testifying at a committee that’s trying to figure out what should be done to protect Canadian citizens' privacy online and curb the spread of disinformation. A former Facebook adviser is urging governments around the world to shut down social media platforms until they can be reformed. Venture capitalist Roger McNamee told the committee "If your goals are to protect democracy and personal liberty, you have to be bold. You have to force a radical transformation of the business model of internet platforms At the end of the day, though, the most effective path to reform would be to shut down the platforms at least temporarily … The time has come to call their bluff."

    Toronto police have been using facial recognition technology for more than a year — a tool police say increases the speed and efficiency of criminal investigations and has led to arrests in major crimes including homicides. This Artificial intelligence has since been banned in San Francisco.

    Premier Ford announces government will cancel retroactive cuts to municipalities May 28, 2019

    Arlene Bynon is in for Alex Pierson and is joined by Toronto City Councillor, Kristyn Wong-Tam to dicuss how Premier Doug Ford announced Monday the provincial government has cancelled retroactive funding cuts to municipalities.

    Ford, along with Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark, made the announcement at Queen’s Park just after 10 a.m.

    Ford government to terminate contract with The Beer Store; pave way for corner store sales May 27, 2019

    Arlene Bynon is in for Alex Pierson and she is joined by Ontario’s Finance Minister, Vic Fedeli to discuss the Progressive Conservative government plans to rip up an agreement with The Beer Store in order to allow the sale of beer and wine in corner stores, but employees with the alcohol retailer are warning the move will come with a steep cost.

    The government tabled legislation Monday that would terminate a 10-year contract with The Beer Store that was signed by the previous Liberal government. The deal permitted an expansion of beer and wine sales to hundreds of grocery stores.
