Case 46 - Alcatraz Prison Mar 08, 2021

Perched on an island near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, is a prison that claimed to be impervious to escapes: Alcatraz Federal Prison. Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, Robert "Birdman" Stroud, James “Whitey” Bulger, and Alvin “Creepy Karpis” Karpowicz all passed through its walls. Even though it was believed to be a sealed-off, safe prison to contain the nation's most dangerous inmates, many tried to leave before their time was up. Some prisoners took their fate into their own hands, planning to escape or die trying.

Case 42 - Jerry Hobbs Jan 11, 2021

This week we are talking about the wrongful conviction of Jerry Hobbs. If you listened to our Juan Rivera episode, you might hear some familiar names. Jerry Hobbs was accused of killing his daughter and her friend in 2005. A grueling interrogation involving physical violence and manipulation ended with a false confession. It would not be until DNA testing found the real killer that justice would actually be served.

Case 38 - Antwerp Diamond Heist Nov 16, 2020

Welcome back! This week we wanted to bring you something a little different so we are discussing the Antwerp Diamond Heist. This case is absolutely insane and definitely seems straight out of an action movie.

The Antwerp Diamond Heist is known as one of the largest diamond heists in history, with about $100 million worth of valuables stolen right out from under one of the most guarded diamond locations in the world. With the vault 2 stories underground and protected by 10 layers of security, any reasonably-minded person would consider this robbery daunting and impossible. Leonardo Notarbartolo and his group of criminals thought otherwise. They planned everything down to the T over the course of a few years. With the assistance of The Monster, The Genius, The King of Keys, and Speedy, Leonardo was able to fulfill his plan of robbing the Antwerp Diamond Center... and they almost got away with it, too.

ABC - Adnan's Story / Rabia Chaudry Nov 06, 2020

In early 2000, Adnan Syed was convicted and sentenced to life plus thirty years for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, a high school senior in Baltimore, Maryland. Syed has maintained his innocence, and Rabia Chaudry, a family friend, has always believed him. By 2013, after almost all appeals had been exhausted, Rabia contacted Sarah Koenig, a producer at This American Life, in hopes of finding a journalist who could shed light on Adnan’s story. In 2014, Koenig's investigation turned into Serial, a Peabody Award-winning podcast with more than 500 million international listenersBut Serial did not tell the whole story.

If you have been into true crime podcasts for awhile you have probably heard Serial. Serial rocketed true crime podcasts into the mainstream and brought much needed attention to Adnan Syed's case but it left a lot out. The Delphi murders shook the nation. Welcome back! We all watched the viral docuseries, Tiger King, and we all came out with different opinions, ideas, and speculations on insane scenarios presented to viewers. The internet started swarming with theories about the nitty gritty details of Don Lewis' disappearance, which mostly concluded that Carole Baskin was guilty of murdering her husband and putting his body through a meat grinder. Tyler Hadley was a well mannered Boy Scout. Once he reached high school, however, he started acting out and sharing violent thoughts with his friends. Case 28 - Juan Rivera Jun 29, 2020

Juan Rivera was wrongfully convicted of the murder of 11-year-old Holly Staker when he was 20 years old. Despite obviously being in a compromised mental state and having no physical connection to the crime, police spent 4 days intensely. interrogating him until he finally told them what they wanted to hear. Based on this coerced confession, Juan was convicted three times. Each conviction was later overturned based on many inconsistencies and incidence of misconduct.

Wrongful convictions are pervasive in the United States. Many interrogation and investigative techniques lead to this. Wrongful convictions can come from coerced confessions, false eye witness testimony, evidence tampering, outdated forensic techniques, and police misconduct among other things. Well over 2000 prisoners have been exonerated since 1989. New DNA technology is helping to clear the names of innocent people but the work does not stop there.

Dennis Nilsen started out as an innocent kid, learning the ways of life. Little did he know, he would grow up to be one of the United Kingdom's most infamous serial killers. Dennis hunted in the streets of Northern London for 5 years, taking 15 young males as his victims. He would commit gruesome, revolting crimes without an ounce of remorse.
