Episode 86: Tom (and Melissa!) Tanner Jul 02, 2018

Show notes

As my college pastor at UGA's Wesley Foundation and my pastor for a season at RiverStone Church, Tom Tanner is one of the most influential voices in my life. Tom and Melissa are on a short list, after my own parents, of people who have had the most impact in my life and growth. And I think that is true for hundreds of my friends, including some that you know- like Tyler Reagin from Catalyst and my pastor Kevin Queen.

We are living in a world where people walk away from their faith and the church fairly often, and sometimes people fall so deep into their own sin it costs them their ministry all together. I wanted to know how to do this faith life for the long haul and TOM AND MELISSA DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

Settle in for a conversation that just may change some things for you... and give you a reason to make a phone call to someone who has influenced your life, too.

Episode 85: Kate Bowler Jun 28, 2018

Show notes

What a joy to have such a strong, insightful, and fun woman on the podcast with us today! Kate Bowler is a brilliant writer and communicator and we really dig into some of the hard things going on in her life right now. This conversation is special. For sure. She's honest and kind and a real joy to hang out with. Her new book, Everything Happens For A Reason: And Other Lies I've Loved, really moved me and is worth the read. You're gonna love being friends with Kate.

Episode 83: Andrew Peterson Jun 21, 2018

Show notes

Possibly the most creative person I have ever known, Andrew Peterson is a songwriter, singer, author, filmmaker, farmer, and pretty much a billion other things. He's just significantly cooler than me, which you'll know soon enough.

If you've been around here for a while, we've been talking for a long time about one of Andrew's songs- The Sower's Song- the one that got me going about myrtle a few months. And we talk about it today on the show- along with writing fiction, Nashville, gardening, songwriting, and the massive role Andrew played ten years ago in my writing career.

His Resurrections Letters albums are just brilliant. I think you are going to love them.

Episode 82: Christine Caine Jun 14, 2018

Show notes

Christine Caine is one of my favorite voices. She's an incredible preacher, a strong activist against slavery, and just one of a kind. The thing about Chris is she is SO FULLY CHRIS and SO FULLY given over to the work of the Gospel and the love of Christ. It's awesome to watch and massively inspiring. Her new book, Unexpected, just released and it's the power punch you've been waiting to read. This conversation is fun and challenging and convicting and grace-filled. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Episode 81: World Cup Soccer Preview with Aaron Chewning and Dave Barnes Jun 07, 2018

Show notes

You know I have two real dreams for my friends listening- that you would love the enneagram and international soccer.

The Men's World Cup, the biggest worldwide soccer tournament, begins next week and this summer is the best time for you to jump on board and learn to love the sport. (I hope. I hope so hard.)

So I grabbed two of my favorite dudes and soccer (and comedy) experts- Aaron Chewning and Dave Barnes- and we went DEEEEP into soccer. Stick with us, friends. Lots to learn, lots of soccer player name drops, lots of laughs, and maybe one of my favorite episodes ever.

Episode 80: Curtis Zackery May 31, 2018

Show notes

Y'all know we love talking about Sabbath around here, and with summer kicking off this week, let's talk a bit about slowing down and what rest can look like (I bet it's different than you think). Curtis Zackery, or CZ as we friends call him, has written a new book called Soul Rest all about it. We knock into a lot of topics- church leadership, race, miscarriage, just to name a few- and you're going to love and respect this pastor, leader, author, and friend by the time we're done.
