    Track 12: Chuck Berry Dec 17, 2020
    Show notes

    Liner Notes:

Chuck Berry has been hailed as the Father of Rock N Roll. The pied piper who ushered millions of teenagers into a new generation. But when Chuck left his stage presence behind, he was an entirely different person.

On this track of Text, Prose & Rock N Roll, Kris speaks with Jon Brewer, whose new documentary uncovers - for the first time ever - the mysteries of Chuck Berry, and who this unique talent really was.

In some way, Director Jon Brewer is the perfect person to document the life of Chuck Berry. He's no stranger to the music business, having spent decades working with David Bowie, Yes, and more before making music documentaries - the latest of which takes on the Father of Rock N Roll in a way no one else ever has.

"Chuck Berry" is now available on Amazon, Apple and other platforms, as well as on DVD.

    Track 10 The Go-Gos Nov 17, 2020
    Show notes

When they burst onto the scene in the 80s, The Go-Gos became the darlings of MTV. But their rise to fame wasn’t the bubblegum fairytale their image radiated. Instead, it was filled with grit, and hard work and a punk rock ethic. This week we explore their journey from LA’s tiny clubs to Madison Square Garden.

Special Thanks to Alison Ellwood and Kathy Valentine for being our guests. Thanks also to Lauren Klaiman, Joanna Salini and everyone at Showtime for their support.

    Track 09: Bad Religion Oct 22, 2020
    Show notes

On this track Kris welcomes GREG GRAFFIN, front man for the punk band BAD RELIGION, a band whose no nonsense approach and Do It Yourself spirit helped them rise to the top of the Punk scene in L.A. and far beyond. Greg discusses their new punk rock manifesto, “Do What You Want”, the band’s outlook on the state of the world, and the nearly fatal rock concert that was not widely covered by the media.

Excerpt from DO WHAT YOU WANT (Hatchette Book Group):

“We started playing the show,” Greg recalled, “and a big hole opened up in front of me on the dance floor and bodies started falling into the hole.” The people who had been standing in front of the stage disappeared into the space where the floor had been.

Bad Religion stopped playing and the people on the right side of the dance floor shouted in protest, unaware of what had hap- pened. But the screams of those who had fallen or were in danger of falling drowned them out. A huge cloud of dust rose from the lower level and people continued to tumble into the pit.

Special Thanks to GREG GRAFFIN AND TO THE ENTIRE BAND FOR THEIR SUPPORT. Thanks also to BRETT GURWITZ and EPITAPH RECORDS for the use of Bad Religion’s library of music, MICHAEL GIARRATANO and everyone at HATCHET BOOK GROUP.
