The 2020 School Year: WTF? Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

This episode feels really important, especially on the eve of my own Back to School experience of the 17th year of my teaching career. This was a frenzied one to write, an emotional one to record, but, I believe, a very important one for you to hear. In today's episode, I dig into the culture of toxic positivity in our schools and how we can manage to work in a world that feels just truly insane. We'll discuss the concept of spiritual bypassing and how we show up as teachers for our students this year.
Also, I talk about the 90s TV show Northern Exposure...

    Abby's Story. Aug 28, 2020
    Show notes

In this week's episode, I have the opportunity to talk with Abby, a former student and now good friend. Abby is one of the four students who inspired Teaching Saves Lives and is at least 50% of the reason why TSL exists.
I have been incredibly lucky to know her and to stay in touch with her over the years, and now I am glad to call her a friend. In this episode we discuss a whole slew of things--her trajectory as a student, her reading prowess, the work we did in her class, her plans for the future, and what it means to grow up in a rural community. This is NOT an episode to miss!
