Writing Music for Media with Steve Barden Jan 16, 2018
    Show notes

Long time TAXI member Steve Barden is pretty humble and unassuming, but he probably shouldn’t be! He’s racked up a ton of credits and learned a lot about several facets of creating music for media along the way. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, violin, and many other stringed instruments. Those skills have translated into him becoming a production music composer for film, television, commercials and corporate videos. His music can be heard on TV somewhere in the world on a daily basis. His music has aired on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC Family, A&E, American Heroes Channel, Animal Planet, Biography Channel, Bravo, The Cooking Channel, Discovery Channel, E!, Food Network, Game Show Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Lifetime, MTV, National Geographic Channel, Oprah Winfrey Network, Outdoor Channel, Oxygen, PBS, Science Channel, Style Channel, SyFy Channel, TLC, Travel Channel, truTV, Univision, VH1, and many more. Steve has also written jingles and theme songs for Los Angeles radio personalities, Mark & Brian, and Kevin & Bean, and recently, he released his first book, Writing Production Music for TV - The Road to Success. Steve’s wide range of experience is why we’re delighted to have him on TAXI TV to discuss topics including: • The difference between scoring to picture and creating instrumental cues. • What stems are, how to create them, and what the most frequently requested stems are. • How to create the best titles for you work. • Understanding contracts. • Organizing your workflow. • Building relationships, and much more! ________________________ Get Steve's Book: http://amzn.to/2CZgErX Learn More About TAXI: http://bit.ly/2mPVGYh Rub Elbows with Music Industry Pros at Our FREE Yearly Convention: http://bit.ly/2a9mwlp View Our Current Music Industry Opportunities: http://bit.ly/28JPUyd Listen on the Go with the TAXI TV Podcast: Apple Podcasts: http://apple.co/2afebwW Google Play: http://bit.ly/2a7cCQX Stitcher: http://bit.ly/2FuSTJQ Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2icUDe0 Connect With Us On... Reach Your 2018 Music Goals [Stop Procrastinating!] Jan 09, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome to 2018! We’ve all made New Year’s resolutions like this: “I’m going to get serious and start writing and recording more music this year.” Seems simple enough… Yet 99% of the people who make that resolution probably won’t stick with it! Why? Procrastination! Personally, I’m a world-class expert on the subject of procrastination. I’d much rather sit on the couch watching TV than doing work. I’m lazy at my core, and I can find a million reasons to put off anything that even resembles work. But there’s one thing that’s pushed me to overcome my proclivity to take the easy way out. It’s the thing that has given me the energy, focus, and will power to create an internationally known company that’s been a beacon for musicians for more the last 26 years. I’m going to share it with you during this powerful, life-changing episode of TAXI TV. This is the one episode of TAXI TV you can’t afford to miss, especially now, at the start of this New Year. I think my “secret” will work for you like it has for me!

Writing Lyrics for Film & TV - Song Reviews with Robin Frederick Oct 24, 2017
    Show notes

Songwriters sometimes overlook the most obvious “job” that a song is supposed to do – keep listeners engaged! One of the most powerful tools a songwriter can use to accomplish that goal is emotion. For records, the song’s “emotion quotient” keeps listeners from skipping to the next song or station. In the context of Film, TV, and Advertising placements, songs play a critical role in supporting the emotion of the scene! Emotion is communicated by your choice of chords, melodies, rhythms, lyrics, arrangement, and even the vocal’s performance and style of delivery. Want to get feedback on your song’s “emotion quotient” from the best-selling author of Shortcuts to Songwriting for Film & TV and Shortcuts to Hit Songwriting? Please join Robin Frederick and me for an episode that will probably make you say, “Wow, I never would have thought of that!”

Engineering Modern Sounds with Ronan Chris Murphy Oct 18, 2017
    Show notes

Have you ever wished that your recordings sounded more like what you hear on the radio? Are your instrument sounds stuck in the ‘70s and ‘80s? We’re going to help you fix that problem on today’s TAXI TV with special guest, Ronan Chris Murphy! There’s been a sea change in the way engineering is approached, and it ain’t your father’s paradigm from decades past. You can update your sound, and the first step is to simply understand what the sea change was, and why it happened! Want to know more about Ronan? http://www.venetowest.com/rcm/ As a producer, engineer and/or mixer, Ronan Chris Murphy has worked with the likes of King Crimson (several albums), Steve Morse (Dixie Dreggs Deep Purple), Terry Bozzio (Zappa, Missing Persons), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, John Lennon, Pink Floyd)), Martin Sexton, Jamie Walters, Ulver, The California Guitar Trio, Chucho Valdes y Groupo Irakere, Joan LaBarbara (Philip Glass Ensemble, Steve Reich) Nels Cline (Wilco) as well as various projects featuring members of Tool, Ministry, Weezer Dishwalla, and Yes.

The Difference Between Good & Great Sample Libraries with Dr. Jeff Steinman Oct 10, 2017
    Show notes

What do you get when you cross somebody who’s got a Ph.D. in high-energy particle physics and an uncontrollable obsession with creating great sounding instrument samples? Yep, a nuclear sample library! Well, kind of… Dr. Jeffrey Steinman is a long-time TAXI member who is truly obsessed with perfection, especially when it comes to how the instruments in his sample libraries sound. He’s so obsessed that he hires legendary, Grammy-winning musicians like Eric Marienthal to come into incredible studios so he can capture their sonic nuance for the people who purchase sample libraries from Jeff’s company, Warp IV Technologies (http://www.warpivmusic.com/). Frankly, Jeff’s obsession with incredible sound is most meaningful to discerning musicians who aren’t looking for a $39 library. If you want to get a behind-the-scenes “tour” at what goes into creating a Rolls Royce-level sample library, join us for this episode of TAXI TV.
