Joe Biden speaks at the U.N. Sep 22, 2021
    Show notes

Yesterday morning, President Joe Biden delivered his first-ever speech to the U.N. General Assembly, a gathering of leaders from across the world. You can read a transcript of his remarks here.

In the address, President Biden focused on Covid-19, climate change, emerging technologies and defending human rights. He reinforced the United States' commitment to keeping nuclear weapons from Iran and out of the Korean peninsula, as well as our commitment to defending the state of Israel and pushing for a two-state solution. He issued warnings to nations like China for their human rights violations while also calling on global leaders to lean into diplomacy instead of armed conflict.

The John Durham indictments. Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Remember the Trump-Russia investigation? The one that produced Robert Mueller, and which many believed would lead to the end of the Trump presidency? Right now, there is an investigation into the investigation, being led by a different Special Counsel: this one is a man named John Durham. Durham was appointed in 2019 by former Attorney General William Barr to look into the origins of the Russia investigation.

On Thursday, an indictment came down alleging that Michael Sussmann, a high-profile cybersecurity lawyer, lied to the former FBI general counsel James Baker. Specifically, when Sussmann approached the FBI with a tip toward the end of the 2016 presidential race, he allegedly told the FBI he was not representing a client but coming forward as a citizen. According to the indictment, though, he was representing the Clinton campaign and a technology executive. During the meeting, Sussmann presented the FBI with evidence that a server belonging to the Russia-based Alfa Bank appeared to be communicating with Trump organization computers.

The Haitian migrants on the border. Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

More than 12,000 migrants, mostly from Haiti, are currently congregated underneath and beside International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, after they waded across the Rio Grande River from Mexico into the U.S. The town of Del Rio has a population of roughly 35,000 people, and the influx of migrants quickly exceeded the border patrol's capacity to process them.

Gen. Mark Milley and Donald Trump. Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

General Mark Milley. In a forthcoming book, Bob Woodward and Robert Costa allege that Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking and most senior military officer in the armed forces, was single-handedly taking action to prevent President Donald Trump from ordering a dangerous military strike against China or launching a nuclear strike at the end of his presidency. Today, we'll take a look at some reactions from the right and left, then my take.

Rabbi Moskowitz on LGBTQ rights and religion Jun 28, 2021
    Show notes

On today's podcast, we are sitting down with Rabbi Mike Moskowitz — an ultra-orthodox religious leader who is also an LGBTQ advocate and progressive activist. Rabbi Mike Moskowitz is the Scholar-in-Residence for Trans and Queer Jewish Studies at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, the world’s largest LGBTQ synagogue. He also happens to be my rabbi, and someone I have a personal relationship with.

In this episode, we discuss the intersection of faith, politics and LGTBQ issues, and how Rabbi Moskowitz ended up landing in a rather heterodox spot compared to his peers.
