Keith Carter: Ole Miss ‘primed and ready’ to be a major CFB player for years to come Nov 08, 2023
    Show notes

In this edition of The Flagship, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com/On3) is joined by Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter to cover a wide range of topics, including the future of Rebel football under Lane Kiffin.

The No. 10 Rebels (8-1, 5-1 SEC) take on top-ranked Georgia (9-0, 6-0) in Athens on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. But regardless of the outcome, the program is, inarguably, in one of its strongest positions in years, if not ever, and fourth-year head coach Lane Kiffin is primarily responsible.

The coaching carousel typically begins turning around this time every year, too. But Carter doesn’t expect much, if any, Kiffin drama this time around.

Ole Miss is too busy ascending to new heights.

Spirit alum Sudu Upadhyay isn’t buying a Little Giants, ‘One Time!’ moment for Ole Miss at Georgia Nov 07, 2023
    Show notes

In this edition of The Flagship, a part of the Talk of Champions podcast network, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit/On3) is joined by Spirit alum Sudu Upadhyay (Fox 5 Atlanta) to preview Ole Miss-Georgia.

The No. 10-ranked Rebels (8-1, 6-1 SEC) kick off in Athens against the top-ranked Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. Georgia is the back-to-back, defending national champion and hasn’t lost a home game in nearly 1,500 days.

But as Dany O’Shea told his Little Giants, all it takes is one time, and Sudu’s beloved Rebels are on a heater as winners of five in a row.

Another would mean rocket fuel for their College Football Playoff resume.

Braylon Burnside to Ole Miss? Full reaction after four-star in-state WR de-commits from MSU Nov 06, 2023
    Show notes

Four-star in-state 2024 wide receiver Braylon Burnside has de-committed from Mississippi State — a surprising development to some, but not Ole Miss Spirit (On3) recruiting analyst Zach Berry. Are the Rebels now in the driver’s seat?

Also in this edition of Zach’s Recruiting Attack/#notcommitted, a recruiting rundown on the latest on a pair of additional wide receiver targets in four-stars Chance Robinson and Caleb Odom. Both were in town for the No. 10-ranked Rebels’ 38-35 win over Texas A&M. It was the second visit in as many weeks for Odom, an Alabama commitment.

Up next for Ole Miss (8-1, 5-1 SEC) is a trip to top-ranked Georgia (9-0, 6-0) Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

    Ole Miss (Not-So) Morning-After: Texas A&M | Georgia’s the opportunity we’ve been waiting for Nov 06, 2023
    Show notes

In this edition of the Ole Miss Morning-After Show (At Night!), Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com/On3) and Bradley Sowell, former Rebel offensive lineman and eight-year NFL veteran, have full reaction from Ole Miss’ last-possession, 38-35 win over Texas A&M.

The Rebels (8-1, 5-1 SEC), in come-from-behind fashion, set the stage for one of the most consequential games in modern program history. If they get Georgia this weekend, where they’re an 11.5-point underdog, how could they be denied a College Football Playoff berth?

“We’ve lost 30 minutes of football the whole season with a Top 5 schedule,” Sowell said.

But a win comes first, of course, and their greatest challenge to date awaits in Athens, home of the back-to-back, defending national champion Bulldogs.

ToC Short Session: Ole Miss basketball forward Jaemyn Brakefield Nov 02, 2023
    Show notes

In this Talk of Champions: Short Session, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com/On3) is joined by Ole Miss basketball senior forward Jaemyn Brakefield. The Rebels tip off their season against Alabama State on Monday at 7 p.m. CT.

They’re looking to rebound after suffering through one of the worst seasons in program history a year ago. Brakefield, in his third Rebel season, believes in the group first-year head coach Chris Beard has assembled.

“100 percent,” he said. “You can feel it on and off the court. It’s a great group of guys. Ready to work.”

Brakefield, a one-time transfer from Duke, is on of four returning Rebels. The rest are either transfers or freshmen.

Brakefield had a breakout season of sorts as a junior, averaging 11.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He shot 53.7 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from three.

“He was so honest,” Brakefield said of Beard’s successful pitch to keep him at Ole Miss. “You could feel it in his heart. He came here for one reason, and that was to win. I haven’t won at Ole Miss since I’ve been here, and that’s something I know the city deserves and athletics in basketball here deserves.

“I’m trying to change that culture, and I’m glad I’m a part of it.”

    Show notes

Hit That Line is 63-45 against the spread entering Week 10 of college football.

Let's pick some more winners, then, shall we?

Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss football Rebels were ranked No. 10 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. They'll try to prove their worth, and keep Texas A&M from playing spoiler, Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.

    Let's get after it.

The Flagship: Ole Miss could set the stage for an historic opportunity with a win over Texas A&M Nov 01, 2023
    Show notes

In this edition of The Flagship, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com/On3) is joined again by Ben Mintz (Barstool), but this time to set the stage for Texas A&M. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.

A Rebel win over the Aggies would set the stage for one of, if not the most, significant games in program history at Georgia. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Aggies have talent, and Ole Miss still hasn’t played a complete game, despite its second 7-1 (4-1 SEC) start in as many seasons.

The Rebels last pulled off that feat when they were winning national championships in the late-50s and early-60s.
