Ole Miss baseball next week officially opens practices in advance of the 2025 season.
The Rebels will go for about a month, including an instrasquad scrimmage, before getting things started against Arizona in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown on February 14.
Ole Miss is coming off back-to-back losing seasons following the first national title in program history in 2022. Long-time hitting coach Mike Clement believes these Rebels, though, are deeper, especially on the pitching side.
“I think it’s as much pitching depth as we’ve had in my decade here,” Clement said.
Clement was joining the Ole Miss Spirit’s (OMSpirit.com) Ben Garrett on Thursday (January 9, 2025) for an all-new edition of ‘Talk of Champions,’ an Ole Miss podcast powered by RiverLand Roofing.

Clement continued, “Knock on wood, we’re healthy. Obviously that’s a huge part of the last two years. (First-year Ole Miss pitching coach) Joel (Mangrum) deserves a lot of credit. The pitching depth is really, really good. We’re going to have 10-15 guys deep.”
Clement also provides insider updates on the status of two-way Rebel Austin Simmons, construction of the lineup, options for left field and much, much more.
Simmons is next up for Ole Miss football as QB1 following the departure of three-year starter Jaxson Dart.
“When he walks through the doors over here (at baseball) he is always going to be welcome,” Clement said.
