Episode 82 To get us started, Jamieson kindly contributed a Georgia whitetail backstrap that was paired with creamy mashed potatoes with gravy & field peas for our podcast dinner. A new voice enters the chat. Will Davids has been a listener since the After Dark days, has been an active supporter of the podcast over the years and can often be seen at our local events. After spending time with him at the boat ramp over the summer, we extended the invite for him to join us around the Old Oak Table. We truly like the cut of his jib. Ben & Larry embellish and ramble a bit about their recent trip to the Old Homestead outside of Bluff City in East Tennessee. We stopped in the Holy City for a night and were able to link up with Pearsall Smith for dinner at Taco Boy, one of our favorite Lowcountry joints. We were joined in The Holston Valley by OG Andrew Gilbert and his lovely & charming girlfriend. A new format / casting game was revealed at the Tailer Park Casting Championships tour stop at The Fly Box, the newest fly shop serving the South Holston River. It was a smashing success. The Drake family stopped by on their way back to South Carolina in their new self-sustaining all-terrain overlander. Wilds produced the rig you would expect from the founder of Drake Boatworks. They joined us for dinner at Southern Craft BBQ, a must visit location if you’re in town to fish the SoHo. Ben details the four-wheeler time trials the boys enjoyed, racing around the property. Following a break, Ben shares how he acquired a channel marker while out with Marcus on the Nomad. Will shares a few stories from his show notes. He’s going to fit in just fine! Episode 75 marks the four year point in our journey to keep you informed of what’s happening in fly fishing from our unique perspective here in the double wide trailer. We’ve certainly had a good time getting here around the Old Oak Table and we hope you have too. The episode kicks off with a brief reprise of Larry’s trip back home to Tennessee to host the Huge Fly Fisherman at the homestead, chase smallies in Seusville and hang out at The Fly Box. Our discussions range from the current status of the manatee feeding that is being done in the IRL, to shoreline restoration efforts by researchers and the work that MDC does to support their studies. Jamieson and Larry share their experience volunteering to help make “oyster bags” with the Shuck & Share program at MDC. Marc brings us along for an exploratory trip on the St. Johns River. Everyone shares their opinions and thoughts on the excessive Land Crab habitat that continues to be an issue in our local waters. Episode 74 is the first one of 2022 and we’re all happy to be back. Carl is busy sniffing resin, so he’s taking a break to recharge his battery. We talk Christmas gifts and holiday cheer to get the podcast started. Ben & Larry spent the better part of a week in East Tennessee and they share some of the highlights and lowlights. We got down to details reviewing the newest Fly Shop in the Holston Valley, The Fly Box. Jameison also made it up to God’s country to spend time with friends and family nearby Dollywood. We recap our awesome camping trip before the holidays started and talk plans for more in the near future. Skiff talk gets us caught up with the progress on Project 69er. Carl, Ben, Jamieson & Larry gather around the Old Oak Table one final time to close out 2021. A report of a fish-less trip and lost items reveals a new sandwich shop and source for skiff subs and hotdogs smothered with homemade chili. The group shares holiday wishes and gift giving ideas. We rounded out the evening discussing the recent revelations of stocking redfish in the IRL, hardly the solution to poor water quality and a collapsing ecosystem. To make matters worse, manatee poop production is being ramped up through artificially creating a feeding area around the power plants in PSJ.
