Syracuse basketball's win over Monmouth haunted by issues at free throw line Nov 19, 2025
    Show notes

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 78-73 win over Monmouth on Tuesday night at the JMA Dome.

The good news is SU survived a late scare by Monmouth and escaped with the win to improve to 4-0.

The bad news is Syracuse has an issue at the free throw line, shooting 58% (19-33) against the Hawks.

SU senior guard JJ Starling really struggled at the line in his return to the lineup with injury, appearing to have a glitch in his shooting stroke and as Starling told Axe in the locker room after the game, a mental and focus issue he needs to overcome at the charity stripe.

Axe discusses the concern of trusting Starling, a player who thrives in driving to the rim, with the ball in late-game situations if his free-throw shooting is broken.

Axe also discusses the key differences that have emerged between this year's Orange team and last, SU's late-start rebounding issues and other items it needs to button up before facing Houston and Kansas in Las Vegas next week.

Syracuse basketball drops the defensive hammer on Drexel Nov 16, 2025
    Show notes

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 80-50 win over Drexel in Philadelphia.

SU went to halftime with just a 5-point lead over Drexel (37-32) and was out-rebounded 19-9 in the first half, but dropped the hammer on the Dragons in the 2nd half, out-scoring Drexel 43-18 and out-rebounding the Dragons 27-20.

Brent also examines what Coach Red Autry should do when JJ Starling returns to the lineup with Kiyan Anthony playing so well in his absence and discusses SU's renewed commitment to defense and how much more watchable and fun the Orange have been so far this season compared to last.

Syracuse football looks to the future (with Marcus Benjamin, Chris Carlson and Mike McAllister) Nov 12, 2025
    Show notes

Syracuse football's 2025 season is officially a wash with a losing record guaranteed and no bowl game awaiting the Orange for the first time since 2021.

It's time to look to the future and three guests join Brent Axe on the latest episode of Syracuse Sports to do so.

Marcus Benjamin of Rivals updates Axe on WR Calvin Russell and Safety Tedarius Hughes, two of SU's biggest Class of 2026 commits from Miami, and why SU has had success in the fertile recruiting grounds of Florida.

Chris Carlson of syracuse.com then tells Axe about his conversation with SU 4-star commit DE Kamron Wilson and how he's trying to assure SU fans that he and some of SU's biggest commits will remain loyal to Fran Brown and the Orange and won't flip elsewhere. Brent and Chris also discuss how Syracuse is going to need to adjust its transfer portal strategy

Finally, Mike McAllister of 247 Sports updates Axe on how SU will close out one of its highest-rated recruiting classes in years, why Fran Brown has been touting that class and if there are any recruiting commits for Syracuse to flip or that could be flipped from Syracuse to another school.

Syracuse football's offensive nightmare continues on Halloween in loss to North Carolina Nov 01, 2025
    Show notes

Brent Axe and Javon Edmonds recap Syracuse football's 27-10 loss to North Carolina at the JMA Dome on Halloween night. Syracuse just cannot find any answers at quarterback as Rickie Collins was benched for Joe Filardi, who was 4-of-18 for 39 yards against the Tar Heels, and Luke Carney who didn't have a pass attempt. Axe and Edmonds discuss the strange hesitancy of SU to allow Luke Carney to throw the ball, what offensive veterans must be thinking with an offense stuck in neutral and the continued tackling issues and breakdowns on defense. Syracuse football flops in Atlanta against Georgia Tech: Postgame with Brent Axe and Javon Edmonds Oct 25, 2025
    Show notes

Brent Axe and Javon Edmonds break down Syracuse football's 41-16 loss to Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Will SU fans hang in there for the last four games of the season or just move on to basketball?

Brent and Javon discuss how SU had its chances early in the game with the ball on the 1-yard line off a Georgia Tech fumble and some other Yellow Jackets mistakes but just couldn't take advantage.

While QB Rickie Collins did not throw any interceptions and showed improved use of his legs, he still failed to some any kind of consistency in generating offense when SU needed it. Is he truly the only option in the SU QB room?

Axe and Edmonds also discuss the Orange defense taking a big step back after showing a new attitude in the prior 2 games in allowing GT QB Haynes King to throw for over 300 yards with 5 touchdowns (3 passing, 2 rushing).
