The Syracuse University men’s basketball team has been 0-for-Hawaii so far in the Maui Invitational and now may have a distraction on its hands.

Donna Ditota and I broke down SU’s 76-57 loss to Gonzaga and discussed what we know (hint: it’s not much) about why Benny Williams did not play against the Zags.

We also talked about SU’s struggles from the 3-point line, rebounding and on defense and what SU is gaining from the school of hard knocks they have attended by playing two Top 11 teams in Hawaii.

Syracuse basketball hangs with No. 7 Tennessee but loses opener of Maui Invitational Nov 21, 2023

Brent Axe and Mike Waters breakdown Syracuse basketball's 73-56 loss to Tennessee in the Maui Invitational.

While the Volunteers eventually won by 17, Syracuse hung close for most of the game. Mike and Brent discuss the effect of Judah Mintz missing most of the first half with foul trouble, how Chris Bell has found early success leading the Orange in scoring, the center rotation between Naheem McLeod and Maliq Brown, why Justin Taylor struggled to score and what SU needs to do, regardless of opponent, for the next two games in Hawaii.

Syracuse football can't run to victory at Georgia Tech and now it's do or die for bowl eligibility Nov 19, 2023

Brent Axe and Emily Leiker breakdown Syracuse football's 31-22 loss to Georgia Tech.

The Orange rallied from a 24-3 halftime deficit to make the game more competitive in the 2nd half. LeQuint Allen and Dan Villari combined for 205 yards rushing, but 12 penalties and some curious decision-making by Dino Babers hampered the Orange from getting over the hump to victory. Not to mention the lack of a viable quarterback to put on the field to throw the ball with Garrett Shrader limited and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson not available.

Now SU must beat Wake Forest just to get over the finish line to bowl eligibility.
