Run The Survivors Out S01EP026 Part TWO Sep 20, 2026
    Show notes

The morning comes up gray over Camp Ridge and the guns do not stop for it. The camp held all night, by the count, one round at a time, because the book was already running low and Eleanor Briggs had written four words for the morning. Ration fire at gray light. The camp fought its way to first light and first light brought no relief, only better light to see the field by, and the field is full of men who spent the whole night learning this place.

This is the last episode of Season One. A winter of building comes due on one morning: the walls, the lanes cut into the ground, the false works raised shovel by shovel, the drills run in the dark until fear turned into a job. A defended position holds a long time. It does not hold forever against an enemy that keeps books and reloads out of a full yard, and the people behind those walls know it, and they fight anyway, because they have seen what lives in the country outside.

The craft this week is the hardest one there is, which is leaving. Fighting backward, position to position, every man covering the man behind him, trading ground for time nobody has enough of. Choosing what to carry and what to leave burning. What breaks first, and what it costs when it does, is the whole of the finale. The camp has run out of night to hide in.

Remnant drops Saturdays and Sundays at 1200pm ET for paying subscribers - one week and seven hours before the public feed.

The Attack on the Temporary Base S01E25 Part TWO Sep 13, 2026
    Show notes

The singing stopped on half a word, and the dark past the north treeline started moving. Camp Ridge stood to inside its fourth silence with the enemy's loaded yard mapped on the table and the pencil still touching the paper, and what comes out of that treeline is the thing the whole season has been scheduling. Not a probe. Not six men spent to read a defense. The read, acted on, coordinated, at night, at scale.

Everything the camp built gets asked the same question at once. The dummy works raised in plain sight beside the real ones. The stores moved to deep cellars by dark. The drilled sectors, the fallback routes, the reserve counted to the round, two hundred fifty-two rifle, forty buckshot, sixty thirty-ought-six, an arithmetic the walls must fight the whole night inside. And the people, tested hardest of all, because the Smiths and the Moons and every soul folded into that wire stand their posts tonight as defenders of the only home the county has left them.

The thing across the frost country spent a season learning this ground, patient as bookkeeping, and patience was never mercy. It was scheduling. Tonight the camp finds out what the county's tuition bought, and it pays for the lesson in the currencies it has hoarded since the lights went out, rounds and blood and belief, logged by lamplight while the church keeps its psalm running under the noise.

Jake Doesn't Come Back On Time S01EP24 Part TWO Sep 06, 2026
    Show notes

The gray hour comes to Camp Ridge on schedule. The scout it is supposed to bring home does not. Jake Smith went out on the margins with the county's most patient assignment and found the first warm thread of the war, a line pointing at where the enemy stages what it has been building. The thread ran long. The turn-back point came up with the lead still live in front of him, and the return window closed at dark with the boy on the wrong side of it.

The camp he left behind is a camp already stretched thin over its own doubled watches, a camp that got counted out loud by a voice on a dead band and has been digging false works beside real ones ever since. Every man it sends past the wire now is arithmetic. And the timing doctrine that governs a missed window was written at the map table by Mark Smith himself, argued into law for everyone, with no clause for a seventeen-year-old who shares his name.

The county's ordinary singing runs its bored rounds on the band, the camp's truest barometer, ordinary for exactly as long as the county decides. Out past the wood line the dark holds one number of the census, and at the gate a father stands where his own rule can reach him. A camp that has learned the price of everything must now put one on waiting.

The Man They Shouldn't Have Trusted S01EP23 Part TWO Aug 30, 2026
    Show notes

The man walks up the middle of the county road with the enemy's radios two days dead all around him. One man, no flag, hands empty, standing in the open frost while a camp at maximum alert looks at him for as long as looking takes. Then he fixes the gate hinge before anybody asks him to, and every rifle on the wall understands the sales pitch without a word being spoken. A man who can fix things, in a county where everything is broken.

Camp Ridge runs the hardest vetting in its history and the stranger passes it. His story holds everywhere anybody can check it. His hands earn his keep twice over by the second day. Reilly argues that a camp under a running silence should admit nobody at all, and Calloway carries the admission anyway, because you do not shut the door when the county gets worse. The county getting worse is the whole reason the door matters.

It is Emily who stops smiling first. Told twice with three days between them, the man's story drifts. A town detail that moves. A trade term a shade too rehearsed. None of it proof, all of it ink in a survey book kept by a girl who counts everything, while the camp weighs a child's page against a hinge that no longer squeaks. The camp rebuilt its whole defense after the survey on the rise, and that rebuild is now the most valuable information in the county, and the county has already shown it would rather buy than bleed.

Four strangers come up the county road at midday carrying a white pillowcase tied to a walking stick, and they stop a quarter mile out and plant it and wait. Camp Ridge has been fed for one week. The road already knows.

The camp answers the flag with the only doctrine that survives contact with a collapsed county. Rifles laid on, gate shut, mercy operating inside armor. The parley happens at a plank table on ground picked for what it hides, the trade stock dressed down to dented cans and loose beans, and the vetting runs deep, because a trade contact is a person who now knows your gate, your faces, and your surplus. The strangers' answers hold. Their goods hold. And the thing their boy keeps checking the back trail for turns out to be holding too.

What follows prices the camp's new wealth in the county's own currency. Boot prints inside boot prints on a creek bank. A night visitor the dog reads and the glass never finds. And a trade that was supposed to cost cans and beans, interrupted by men who came up out of the dead ground believing they had caught a soft camp counting food in the open. The larder bought Camp Ridge a winter. This is the week the county opens negotiations on the price.
