    Episode 76: Dante Mullinix (Part 1) Sep 01, 2021
    Show notes

Two weeks before his third birthday, two-year-old Dante Mullinix was rushed to the hospital, unresponsive. His mother’s boyfriend claimed Dante choked on animal crackers. Several days later, on September 15, 2018, Dante was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a homicide caused by traumatic brain injury with strangulation and chest compression. An autopsy revealed the toddler’s head was covered with bruises, and he also had bleeding on the brain as well as hemorrhaging inside his neck.
Police arrested 40-year-old Tyree Bowie and charged him with Dante’s murder. He currently awaits trial, but Dante’s aunt, Sarah Mullinix, and many others believe he is innocent. Did authorities in York County, Pennsylvania arrest the wrong man? Will there ever be true justice for little Dante?
This is part one of the infuriating story of Dante Mullinix.

    Episode 75: Rica Rountree (Part 3) Aug 25, 2021
    Show notes

Over the past 2 weeks, I told you the story of 8-year-old Rica Rountree, who DCFS left in her father’s home despite clear evidence that she was being abused. After Rica died on January 26, 2019, investigators found disturbing cell phone videos of Rica’s abuse and arrested her father’s girlfriend, Cindy Baker. After Cindy was convicted, Rica’s father, Richard Rountree, was also arrested for his part in his daughter’s death. In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Rica’s mother, Ann Rountree, who is relentless in her mission to protect other children from suffering her daughter’s fate.
This is the story of a sweet, kind little girl who could make anyone smile and who loved her dolls like they were her own children. It’s also the story of the failure of Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services to protect yet another vulnerable child from targeted and obvious child abuse.
This is part 3 of the horrific story of Rica Rountree.

    Episode 73: Rica Rountree (Part 1) Aug 11, 2021
    Show notes

Despite multiple allegations of abuse against Richard Rountree and his girlfriend, Cindy Baker, Illinois DCFS never saw fit to remove his battered 8-year-old daughter, Rica, from their home, accepting their glib explanation for Rica’s cuts, welts, bruises, scars, and countless other injuries: the girl was just “clumsy.”
On January 25, 2019, Rica was rushed to the hospital, unresponsive, with a huge bruise on her abdomen. Despite surgery to repair her internal injuries, Rica died the following day. After a search warrant turned up disturbing videos of Rica’s abuse, Cindy Baker was arrested and charged with murder.
This is the story of a sweet, kind little girl who could make anyone smile and who loved her dolls like they were her own children. It’s also the story of the failure of Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services to protect yet another vulnerable child from targeted and obvious child abuse.

Introducing: Riddle Me That! True Crime Aug 09, 2021
    Show notes

Riddle Me That! True Crime is a weekly true crime podcast hosted by Jules Ph.D, who takes a deep dive into the facts of unsolved cases, disappearances, and mysteries. Today, I'm sharing a full-length episode of Riddle Me That! True Crime with you!
Official show notes: "Noah Donohoe was a 14-year-old boy who lived in Belfast with his family. On Father’s Day June 21, 2020, amidst lockdown Noah had made plans to go to Cave Hill Park with friends to complete his Duke of Edinburg award (similar to Boy Scouts, but decidedly more complex). Noah put the location into google maps and set off, but something must have derailed him. Noah was caught on 22 CCTV cameras; this was nowhere near the 180 counted on the route that Noah took that the family would later count. There appeared to be gaps in footage and in time. The CCTV that was captured was disturbing, Noah was in various states of undress, shedding his clothing and belongings. Noah’s mother Fiona sounded the alarm later that day and the community rallied behind her; people came out in droves to search for Noah. Noah would later be found in a storm drain in a loyalist area, an area he was unfamiliar with and no business being in. Why was Noah there? And why did the PSNI make a preliminary conclusion of accident upon finding an unclothed 14-year-old boy in a storm drain? This was before a pathologist had looked at the body and determined manner of death, prior to the forensics being run, prior to evidence being collected and prior to individuals who may have had something to do with Noah’s death being questioned. The family has been let down by investigators and stonewalled, as a response the community filled the gap, standing up to the authorities and forming Noah’s army, a movement that is in direct response to the family feeling as though they need to push authorities to do what they are supposed to do…. investigate the death of a child thoroughly. There will be an upcoming coroner’s inquest, where hopefully all the details will come to light. In this episode I speak to Sunday World Journalist Trish Devlin about her experiences as a journalist in Northern Ireland, the abuse, trolling and misogyny she’s personally faced, as well as the history and delicate peace in Northern Ireland. Trish has had the pleasure of speaking to Fiona Donohoe, as well as other family members. I will link below all things Noah Donohoe related, as well as Trish’s work on the case for the Sunday World."

Episode 72: Eli Arispe Hentges Jul 28, 2021
    Show notes

On April 5, 2017, a concerned resident of an apartment building in Braham, Minnesota called 911 after hearing screaming from the apartment below. When police responded, they found 2-month-old Eli Arispe Hentges dead in his playpen. Eli’s mother, 24-year-old Shy Ann Hentges, was interviewed by investigators, but her story changed when Eli’s autopsy revealed his tiny skull had been fractured.
This is the story of a baby born into less-than-optimal circumstances. It’s also the story of a young mother whose temper, exacerbated by her abuse of drugs and alcohol, led to the violent death of her own infant son.
This is the tragic story of Eli Arispe Hentges.

    Episode 71: Tate Thurman Jul 21, 2021
    Show notes

On the morning of February 18, 2020, EMS responded to a home in East Peoria, Illinois on a report of a child in cardiac arrest. At the scene, they found 4-year-old Tate Thurman unresponsive with multiple injuries, including bruises covering his little body from head to toe. Lesli Ann Jett, the live-in girlfriend of Tate’s father, told police that Tate had been injured when he slipped in some water on the floor and fell, but Tate’s injuries told a completely different story.
When Tate died after two days on life support, an autopsy was conducted, revealing massive internal bleeding caused by high-velocity blunt force trauma. Lesli was subsequently arrested and charged with Tate’s murder. Her trial 16 months later revealed disturbing and gut-wrenching details of Tate’s final months, as well as Lesli’s true colors, as she attempted to pin the blame for Tate’s death on both her ex-husband and Tate’s own 7-year-old brother.
This is the horrific story of Tate Thurman.

Episode 70: Lucas Call Revisited Jul 14, 2021
    Show notes

A few weeks ago, in episode 65, I told you the story of two-year-old Lucas Call, who died from blunt force trauma in 2018. His foster mother, Lisa Jo Vanderlinden, took a plea agreement that amounted to a slap on the wrist and was released after just nine months in county jail.
After I released that episode, I heard from a lot of listeners who expressed sympathy for and outrage on behalf of Lucas’s biological mom, Shelby Call, whose learning disability was one of the reasons the state of Utah used to justify removing her children from her care in the first place. For this episode, I was honored to speak with Shelby, who is honestly one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the privilege of encountering. You’ll also hear my candid conversation with Shelby’s husband, Lucas’s father, David, whose arrest for possession of child pornography set off the chain of events that ultimately led to Lucas’s death.
This is the heartbreaking story of Lucas Call, revisited.

    Episode 69 - Corey Micciolo Jul 07, 2021
    Show notes

On April 2 of this year, Breanna Micciolo dropped off her six-year-old son, Corey, at his father’s house in Barnegat, New Jersey for their scheduled visitation. She expected to pick him up that afternoon, but instead, she got a phone call from Corey’s father saying they were headed to the hospital. By the time Breanna figured out what was happening, the police were on her doorstep with the worst news any mother could ever receive: her precious little first-grader was dead.
Since Corey’s death, Breanna has received no information from the police, the medical examiner, or the prosecutor’s office regarding what happened to her son, and to date, no arrests have been made. This is a story of the failure of child protective services to do the one thing they’re tasked with doing. It’s also the story of a family court’s failure to believe a mother trying her very hardest to protect her child from abuse.
In this episode, you’ll also hear my conversation with Corey’s heartbroken mom, Breanna, who wants not only justice for her son but also protection for other children in situations like his.
This is the gut-wrenching story of Corey Micciolo.

Episode 68: James Needs Justice Jun 30, 2021
    Show notes

If you follow the podcast or the blog on social media, you’ve probably seen my many posts about two-year-old James Biel. I covered James’s story in episode 26 of this podcast, as well as in a detailed blog article in August of 2020. During a contentious custody battle between James’s mother, Kara Witkowski, and his father, Thomas Biel, Kara missed a court appearance due to an error on her attorney’s part, and in her absence, the judge granted Tom full custody. Three months later, James was brought to the hospital to be treated for a prolapsed rectum so severe that it required surgery and nine separate hospital admissions during that single month.
Just weeks after that, shortly after James’s second birthday, James died under suspicious circumstances. The very next day, even before an autopsy was completed, the police department in Palatine, Illinois announced that foul play was not suspected. The state’s autopsy was inconclusive, but even after a second, independent autopsy revealed James died from an unexplained spinal cord injury, to date, no investigation has been opened into James’s death.
Kara, however, is not allowing the death of her son to be brushed under the rug. In this episode, I’ll go over the updates to James’s story since episode 26 was released, and you’ll also hear my recent conversation with Kara, who refuses to be silent until James’s death is thoroughly investigated.
This is the infuriating case of James Biel, revisited.
