We look at the 1954 film that inspired Indiana Jones and it is....a drag. It's a boring film without a semblance of adventure. The menswear on the other hand is pretty good! This new episode is Spencer's attempt to codify what he calls "reporter style". The look comes from personal observation of the journalists he has interacted with professionally, famed journalists of the last century and of course, the image of the reporter that was created by Hollywood in films like “All the President’s Men” or “The Parallax View”. He also goes into how he co-opts elements of this style for his own dress. Better get your ties on, because it's time to talk about Gangster Squad. Spencer and Ethan discuss the campy 2013 film about how a group of cops took down Mickey Cohen and his gang back in 1949. Costumed by Mary Zophres, the style of the film is interesting; there are period accurate double breasted suits and ties, but a few liberties with the lapels and shirt collars. It's almost as much a throw back to the gangster films of the 90s as it is a send up of the ones from the 40s and 50s.
