Remembering Harold Ramis | “See You on the Other Side, Egon.” Feb 26, 2014
    Show notes

Some performers dominate the spotlight. Others quietly shape an entire generation’s sense of humor from behind the scenes while still becoming unforgettable onscreen themselves. Harold Ramis somehow managed both.

This week on the Stuck in the ’80s Podcast, Steve and Brad reflect on the passing of Harold Ramis and celebrate the extraordinary comedic legacy he leaves behind. For Gen X audiences, Ramis wasn’t just part of some of the defining comedies of the 1980s — he helped create the blueprint for what modern comedy would become.

The episode revisits Ramis’ unforgettable role as Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters, one of the most beloved movies of the MTV era. Spearsy and Brad reflect on Egon’s deadpan brilliance and how Ramis brought intelligence, restraint and warmth to a movie filled with supernatural chaos and rapid-fire comedy.

But the conversation also explores Ramis’ enormous influence behind the camera as a writer and director. Along the way, the gang revisits classics like Caddyshack, National Lampoon's Vacation and Groundhog Day while discussing how Ramis helped shape a style of comedy that balanced absurd humor with surprisingly heartfelt humanity.

Like many fans mourning the loss, Spearsy and Brad reflect on the strange sadness of losing artists whose work felt deeply woven into everyday life growing up. Whether through endless cable-TV reruns, VHS rewatches or endlessly quotable movie lines, Harold Ramis helped define what being funny looked like for an entire generation.

The episode becomes both a tribute and a thank-you to a creative figure who rarely seemed interested in celebrity itself, despite leaving behind one of the most influential comedy legacies in modern entertainment.

See you on the other side, Egon.

If you love comedy, ’80s movies and remembering the artists who helped shape the emotional and cultural identity of Gen X, this episode belongs in your playlist.

Paul McCartney and the Beatles in the ’80s | Rediscovering McCartney’s MTV-Era Music Jan 15, 2014
    Show notes

What happened to The Beatles in the 1980s? While the Fab Four officially belonged to the 1960s and 1970s, the surviving members continued shaping pop culture well into the MTV era through solo albums, hit singles, massive tours and unforgettable collaborations. This week on the Stuck in the ’80s Podcast, Steve, Brad and Just Drew take a deep dive into the Beatles in the 1980s — with a special focus on the often-overlooked solo catalog of Paul McCartney.

The episode revisits McCartney’s biggest hits of the decade, including Coming Up, Say Say Say, No More Lonely Nights and Ebony and Ivory. Along the way, the gang discusses how McCartney adapted to the changing sound of pop music during the 1980s while still maintaining the melodic songwriting style that made him one of the most successful musicians in rock history.

The conversation also explores McCartney’s collaborations with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, the rise of music videos during the MTV generation and why some fans unfairly overlook McCartney’s 1980s output compared to his work with The Beatles and Wings. Steve, Brad and Just Drew also reflect on the emotional impact of losing John Lennon in 1980 and how the remaining Beatles carried the band’s legacy forward during the decade.

Along the way, the hosts revisit memories of hearing Paul McCartney songs on the radio, watching Beatles-related videos on MTV and rediscovering the solo careers of the Fab Four during the golden age of cassette tapes and record stores. If you love Beatles history, Paul McCartney deep cuts, classic rock nostalgia and revisiting overlooked music from the MTV era, this episode belongs in your playlist.

Celebrating 300 Episodes of Stuck in the ’80s Podcast with Original Co-Host Sean Daly Jan 01, 2014
    Show notes

Three hundred episodes. Countless memories. Endless debates about music, movies, television and all the strange little cultural touchstones that shaped Gen X life. This week on the Stuck in the ’80s Podcast, the gang celebrates a major milestone as original co-host Sean Daly returns for the show’s 300th episode.

For longtime listeners, Sean’s return feels like reconnecting with an old friend. Alongside Steve and Brad, Sean helped establish the tone, humor and emotional nostalgia that turned the podcast into a gathering place for fans of 1980s pop culture. In this special anniversary episode, the crew revisits the origins of the show and reflects on how a simple idea about celebrating the greatest decade ever somehow grew into a long-running Gen X institution.

The conversation bounces through favorite episodes, memorable interviews, hilarious podcast moments and the strange evolution of nostalgia culture itself over the years. Spearsy, Brad and Sean reflect on how discussions that once centered around VHS tapes, cassette decks and MTV memories gradually became conversations about aging, memory and the emotional role pop culture plays in our lives.

Along the way, the gang revisits some of the artists, movies and TV shows that generated the biggest reactions from listeners throughout the years — from The Breakfast Club and Ghostbusters to endless debates about one-hit wonders, forgotten hits and the movies that defined Gen X childhood.

Like many milestone Stuck in the ’80s episodes, the discussion becomes about more than nostalgia itself. It becomes a celebration of friendship, shared memories and the unexpected communities that form around music, movies and the simple desire to remember where we came from.

Most importantly, the episode serves as a thank-you to the listeners who helped keep the podcast alive through hundreds of episodes, changing technologies and nearly two decades of pop-culture conversations.

If you love Gen X nostalgia, behind-the-scenes podcast stories and revisiting the moments that helped build the Stuck in the ’80s community, this episode belongs in your playlist.
