Episode 791: Grit and Wellness with Dr. Carmen Romano Mar 10, 2023
    Show notes

On today's episode, Dennis sits down with Sports Chiropractor and mental and physical chemistry researcher, Dr. Carmen Romano. Dr. Carmen Romano received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Bridgeport University in December of 1999. After earning his degree, Dr Romano spent a year practicing in Italy before returning to New Jersey. Since 2003, he has owned Madison Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center in Madison, NJ. Madison Medical is an integrative medical center that includes Internal Medicine, Functional Medicine, Physical Medicine, Chiropractic, Podiatric and Physical Therapy services to patients. He also owns and operates R3 Recovery Lab which offers cryotherapy, infrared sauna and pneumatic compression services as well as cold-pressed juices, detox cleanses and butter brain coffee.

At Madison Medical, Dr Romano has created a center where patients receive immediate attention from a collaborating team of whole body wellness focused practitioners. What began as a small Chiropractic office in 2003 has grown to a 10,000 square foot integrative medical center through Dr Romano’s philosophy and vision. Patient care at Madison Medical is a collaborative process with providers co-treating to address systemic issues along with current symptoms. Visits may include hormone and micro-nutrient testing, diagnostic ultrasound and x-ray, gait evaluations and orthotics to identify and address root causes of the symptoms being experienced.

Dr Romano’s newest venture, R3Recovery Lab was born out of the observed need for complimentary services such as Cryotherapy, Infrared Sauna and Pneumatic Compression to aid athletes in real recovery. Recognizing that pro athletes have access to these types of services every day, Dr Romano created R3 so that the “weekend-warrior” type athlete or average patient recovering from injury or illness could also benefit from these services.Today, J.P. gets deep into sharing his story starting from what inspired him to join the Army, the loss of his friend Justin while on mission and how that impacted his view on life, the day of his incident that led to his tragic injuries, his battle with recovery and his 12 suicide attempts, keeping faith when you're in the darkness, the book he wrote "Walking Again" and the support to handle life together.

Today, Dennis and Dr. Romano talk about the wear and tear of the "grind", the effects of diet on the body and the brain, tweaking your diet to fit your lifestyle, importance of relationships and how it corresponds with your mental health, creating goals for yourself and business advice.

Episode 789: Being Mistreated and How To Move Forward with Bridget Truxillo Mar 08, 2023
    Show notes

On today's episode, Dennis has Bridget Truxillo, Founder and CEO of Protective Wellness, back on the show. Bridget knows the challenges law enforcement officers face, both outside and inside their agencies based on her experiences as a Deputy Sheriff in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida.

Bridget started out in Patrol, but very quickly transferred to the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit (NOCU), and also became the only female member of the SWAT team.

During her time in the NOCU, Bridget routinely conducted undercover buys of narcotics and effectuated many arrest and search warrants as a result of her undercover operations.

While on the SWAT team, Bridget participated in serving search warrants, active shooter and hostage situations, competed twice in SWAT Round-up International (an International SWAT competition), as well as many hundreds of hours of training.

Although being a Deputy Sheriff allowed Bridget to serve the public, Bridget realized she wanted to find a way to serve the law enforcement and first responder community directly so she left law enforcement to attend law school as a means to glean the knowledge and skills necessary for this purpose. After 13+ years practicing law in civil litigation, Bridget was able to curate a unique business dedicated to representing and supporting law enforcement officers and first responders.

Today, Bridget and Dennis discuss the right way to deal with harassment in the work place, sex in the workplace, having an exit strategy if and when you're in a toxic work environment, taking control of your situation, owning up on your mistakes and following the right leaders.

Episode 787: Healing and Helping Others with Emily Henderson Mar 06, 2023
    Show notes

On today's episode, Dennis speaks with retired LEO, Health Coach & Public Speaker, Emily Henderson. In April 2020, Emily fought for my life as a police officer, and in the fight, she sustained a traumatic brain injury and broke all the bones in her dominate hand. Within her recovery, she became suicidal thinking that her life was over because, “all she was ever good at was being a cop.” By the grace of God, she remembered my Crisis Intervention Training and applied it to herself. She realized she had hit her capacity of knowing how to cope with my current situation and was convinced she deserved better. From that moment forward, Emily put her health in mind, body, and finances first and reinvented herself from the ground up. That decision let to her to becoming a health coach and building a team to help others reinvent themselves, many of whom wear similar uniforms as she did.

Today, Emily shares her story of the incident that led her to retire, coping with her physical and mental injuries, her purpose as a health coach and public speaker, breaking the stigma of mental health in law enforcement and being a leader in life and in law enforcement.
