Donovan Mitchell to the Nets? + Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show host Garrett Bush Jul 14, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a quick note on the report that the Brooklyn Nets would be interested in Donovan Mitchell in any potential Kevin Durant trade. It's too soon to say whether or not a deal could actually come to fruition, but we did tell you yesterday that Mitchell and Durant wind up being linked together until one of them actually gets traded. Just sayin'. Later, Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and 92.3 The Fan Cleveland host Garrett Bush swings by to discuss why there's so much pressure on Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski heading into the upcoming season, why fans are so split on the acquisition of Deshaun Watson, how Joe Burrow single-handedly destroyed every single excuse Browns fans had about being mediocre for so long, Collin Sexton's future with the Cavaliers now that Darius Garland has emerged, why NBA front office executives think Durant and Kyrie Irving are the two most miserable guys in basketball, and much more!

Kyrie Wants to Stay in Brooklyn, How Donovan Mitchell Impacts the Kevin Durant Sweepstakes & a Potential Landing Spot for Jimmy G Jul 13, 2022
    Show notes

On today’s episode, Jason and Producer Rob G kick things off with a deep dive into the report that Kyrie Irving would prefer to stay with the Brooklyn Nets – whether Kevin Durant remains on the team or not. Has Kyrie finally come to the realization that no other team actually wants to trade for him so he’s trying to save face? Or is this just the latest case of an NBA franchise trying to manipulate a member of the media to get their preferred narrative out to the public? We’ll find out soon enough. Speaking of the Nets, now that Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell is officially on the trade block, it’s safe to say that his future is now directly tied to Durant’s. That’s not to say that the two all-stars will ultimately get traded for each other, but rather that any team linked to KD will also now be linked to Mitchell. Later, the guys explain why Scottie Pippen is correct when he says that it’s tougher to be successful in today’s NBA than it was back in the 1990s. Players are bigger, faster and more skilled than ever before, so it only makes sense the competition would be greater as well. Finally, J-Mac closes the show by discussing why he thinks the Cleveland Browns should try to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo to hold down the fort while Deshaun Watson is out due to suspension. In fact, Jason argues that Jimmy G as the bridge quarterback would actually make the Browns the team to beat in the AFC North.

Losers in the Twittersphere + Baltimore radio host Jerry Coleman Jul 12, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason gets the party started by doing a quick run through a few of the biggest storylines to hit the wire on Monday, most notably a snafu involving a handful of ESPN staffers getting duped by a fake Ja Morant quote. Can you believe there are actual people out there who spend their lives cooking up fake quotes/headlines trying to dupe the media? Embarrassing. Later, 105.7 The Fan Baltimore radio host Jerry Coleman swings by to discuss if the Lamar Jackson contract negotiations are hanging over the club like a cloud, Jackson’s refusal to hire an agent are making things more difficult, the Baltimore Ravens’ overall confidence in Jackson’s long-term outlook, the notion that Jackson isn’t a top-10 quarterback in the NFL, why top wideout Hollywood Brown wanted out of Baltimore, if the Ravens should be viewed as the favorites to win the AFC North this upcoming season, and much more!

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Damian Lillard Got His Dollars, Lamar Jackson Should Get Dak Prescott Money & Is Zach Wilson the Mormon Manziel? Jul 11, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by sharing a few thoughts on the Portland Trail Blazers' decision to sign Damian Lillard to a two-year, $122 million contract extension that will keep him in Portland until 2027. The Blazers have been good-but-not-great for years with Lillard, and now they just locked themselves into NBA purgatory for the next five years - at least. Portland should have realized they were never going to win a championship with Lillard as their best player long ago, but rather than cut the chord and trade Dame for a King's Ransom to jumpstart their rebuild, they decided they'd rather live in mediocrity. Later, Jason discusses the latest surrounding the ongoing contract negotiations between Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Say what you want about Jackson's abilities as a passer, the fact remains he's an unanimous MVP who has won at a high level ever since he got to the NFL. At a minimum, Jackson deserves a larger contract than Dak Prescott got from the Dallas Cowboys before last season. Finally, J-Mac closes the show by waxing poetically on the latest tabloid rumors involving New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. Before the NFL Draft, Jason called Wilson the 'Mormon Mahomes'. Now? They're calling him the 'Mormon Manziel'. Take a listen to find out why!

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Lakers Closing In on Kyrie & a Kevin Durant Breadcrumb Jul 08, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason kicks things by sharing his thoughts on the reports that Kyrie Irving is a sure thing to end up with the Los Angeles Lakers before next season. One word: Why? Kyrie has been a malcontent on every team he's been on since he left LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. There's a reason why the Lakers seem to be the only team interested in Kyrie's services; Let's just hope Los Angeles is smart enough not to give up too much for Irving in the deal. Speaking of the Brooklyn Nets, the Kevin Durant trade market is moving at a glacial pace. In fact, at least prominent NBA insider is reporting that KD has been ghosting other star players who have been trying to recruit Durant to their team. However, internet sleuths did uncover a breadcrumb that could let us know which team has the inside track to land KD so you definitely want to keep an eye on that one. Finally, J-Mac closes the show by explaining how the difficulties surrounding any potential Durant deal could signal the official death of the Super Team Era. It's unbelievably hard to field a competitive roster when you have to flip most of your assets for a third superstar.

Baker Mayfield Has the Panthers Thinking Playoffs + Pro sports bettor Brad Powers Jul 07, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by sharing a few thoughts on the Cleveland Browns' decision to trade former #1 overall pick Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers. Mayfield has historically performed better as an underdog so it's safe to assume we should see the best version of Baker come out now that he's been kicked to the curb. However, even though incumbent Panthers starter Sam Darnold hasn't exactly lit the world on fire himself, all signs point to Darnold keeping the starting gig as we head into training camp. In fact, with upgrades along the offensive line and the return of superstar Christian McCaffrey, it wouldn't be crazy to put a little dough on Carolina to make the playoffs next season. Later, professional sports bettor Brad Powers swings by to preview the upcoming college football season and discuss why he felt compelled to bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide to win the 2023 national championship before the 2022 season was even officially over, why he’s optimistic about the Clemson Tigers and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei having a bounce-back season, why he’s already placed wagers on 15 different players to win the Heisman Trophy -including superstar quarterbacks Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, the likelihood that we see Notre Dame eventually join the Big Ten, why he feels as though Utah is undervalued and USC is overvalued coming out of the Pac-12, and much more!

Chet Holmgren's Impressive Debut, the Chances that KD Stays in Brooklyn & The Athletic Nets beat writer Alex Schiffer Jul 06, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by heaping major praise on Oklahoma City Thunder rookie big man Chet Holmgren following his Summer League debut. Holmgren looked as good as advertised, and he has to be the first sign of real optimism for Thunder fans since Kevin Durant left town back in 2016. Speaking of KD, with reports coming out now that the Brooklyn Nets are willing to wait things out on any potential Durant trade until they get the massive haul they're looking for, what are the chances that they run it back next season? If KD, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons are healthy and engaged, they have one of the best trios in the Eastern Conference. What's more, Brooklyn queitly boasts one of the deepest rosters in all of basketball when you factor in guys like Seth Curry, Joe Harris, Royce O'Neale and TJ Warren. Chances are this team ultimately gets broken up, but you have to admit it would be wild to see them run it back for one Last Dance. Later, The Athletic Nets beat writer Alex Schiffer swings by to discuss how difficulty it's going to be to put together a Durant trade that makes sense for all parties, Kyrie's general lack of team success since he left Cleveland, how the infamous Nets Big 3 would have fared if they actually stuck together, and much more!

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - The Lakers Can't Trade for Kyrie & What Really Motivates Kevin Durant Jul 05, 2022
    Show notes

On today’s episode, Jason and Producer Rob G engage in a spirited debate about whether or not the addition of Kyrie Irving would be enough to vault the Los Angeles Lakers into title contention. On one hand, Kyrie’s career has been in a downward spiral ever since he left LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2017. On the other, is it fair to say that Kyrie, LeBron and Anthony Davis would easily form the talented trio in the NBA? Both guys make salient points here so we’ll let you be the judge to determine who had the winning argument. Plus, J-Mac reacts to the reports that Golden State Warriors are interested in bringing Kevin Durant back to The Bay now that he’s available for trade. As cool as it sounds that the Greatest Team in NBA history (KD, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green) might link up yet again, the fact remains that a reunion is nothing more than pipedream; There is no way Durant returns to Golden State, especially after they won the title without him. Finally, Jason closes the show by sharing the details of a private Instagram conversation he had with Durant in which the pair went back and forth over KD’s motivations moving forward. Get your popcorn ready!

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - T'Wolves are Going for It with Gobert, Why NBA Draft Picks are Overrated + Actor/Singer Leon Jul 04, 2022
    Show notes

On today’s special 4th of July episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on blockbuster trade that saw the Utah Jazz send big man Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Folks around the NBA insist that the Jazz 'won' the trade since they got 4 first round picks in the deal, but J-Mac argues that Minnesota deserves credit for pushing all in in hopes of cracking the top-4 of the Western Conference; the T'Wolves should be one of the top teams in the West during the regular season, and given the franchise's history of mediocrity, any type of postseason run should be viewed as a home run. Moreover, have you seen what the Jazz roster looks like these days? Gross. They're more likely to trade Donovan Mitchell and start tanking their way to the bottom than they are to make the playoffs next season. Later, actor/singer Leon swings by to discuss why some cast members on the set of the hoops classic ‘Above the Rim’ were jealous of his wardrobe, what it was like playing pickup with Michael Jordan back in college, how Kevin Durant’s trade demand out of Brooklyn could impact the rest of the NBA moving forward, why it was such a big mistake for Durant to leave the Golden State Warriors, how Jordan’s Bulls would have fared against the Durant-Steph Curry Warriors, and much more!

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Chaos in College Football, How Steph Curry Broke Kevin Durant & the Brooklyn Nets' Next Step Jul 01, 2022
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jason open things up by sharing his thoughts on USC and UCLA bolting from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten conference. College football has been chaotic for years now (NIL, transfer portal, College Football Playoff expansion), but this could be the one that takes the cake. It's one of the rare instances where a clear money grab is actually good for the sport as a whole. Now, the only question is whether or not Notre Dame decides to join up too. Later, J-Mac does a deep dive into Kevin Durant's formal trade request from the Brooklyn Nets. It's clear that seeing Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors win another title without him broke KD's psyche, and now he's looking to latch one with a club that will give a chance to settle the score. Of course none of this would've ever happened had he not hitched his wagon to the mercurial Kyrie Irving, but I digress. The only problem with trading for Durant, however, is that he has a history of injuries and he's clearly in the twilight of his prime years. Jason tries to assemble trade packages that would make both KD and the Nets happy, but it's hard to make something happen that would satisfy all parties involved. Would the Phoenix Suns give up Devin Booker in a deal? Do the Miami Heat have enough to get something done? Would a young stud like Evan Mobley or Scottie Barnes become available? These negotiations could drag on well into the summer. Finally, Jason closes the show by discussing what's next for the Nets now that both KD and Kyrie appear to be on their way out the door. In fact, J-Mac has one radical plan that he thinks could keep Brooklyn afloat for the foreseeable future: build around Ben Simmons.
