The Traditional Mass: Rite and History – “The Catholic Mass” Ep. 5 Aug 16, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to our fifth episode in The Catholic Mass series. Here, our goal is to continue an overview which will touch on themes that will be more fully developed later in the series. Today we’ll answer the question, what do we mean by the traditional Latin Mass, or as Archbishop Lefebvre called it, the Mass of All Time. In this episode, we’ll also give a brief survey of the Mass in order to provide a 30,000 view of the history of the immemorial Roman Rite.

    What is the SSPX Podcast?

The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. - - - - - -

    What is the SSPX?

The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. Although the traditional Latin Mass is the most visible and public expression of the work of the Society, we are committed to defending Catholic Tradition in its entirety: all of Catholic doctrine and morals as the Church has always defended them. What people need is the Catholic Faith, without compromise, with all the truth and beauty which accompanies it. https://sspx.org

The Liturgy Explained, Pt. 2 - "The Catholic Mass" Ep. 4 Aug 09, 2024
    Show notes

Today, we explore why it is so important that we have a liturgy at all. What do we mean when we say “Liturgy”? What is the reason for people gathering together to perform a religious ceremony? Is it something that we do are inclined to do naturally, or is it something that God has directed us to do?

The Four Ends of the Mass — "The Catholic Mass" Ep. 2 Jul 26, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to the second of our introductory episodes in The Catholic Mass series. Last time we saw what the Sacrifice of the Mass is – today we’ll look at the next logical question – why? Why is it that Catholics, especially today, still put such an emphasis on this ancient and… well, strange practice? And what’s the point of religion in today’s world? There’s a real lack of the practice of religion, and the belief of God among our contemporaries. So why is it that we would want to be dependent on a seemingly unknowable God? And what does the Mass have to do with this?

What is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? — "The Catholic Mass" Ep. 1 Jul 19, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to the first episode of The Catholic Mass here on the SSPX Podcast. We’re excited to get started on this – what will probably be about a year long series – examining the theology, the history, rubrics, the changes in the Mass, and so much more. But why spend so much time on one topic? As Fr. Paul Robinson will tell us in this first episode, because the Mass is the center of our Faith, and even though we’re doing an extended series, it really is inexhaustible. We can always dive deeper into the mysteries contained in this, the greatest catechism that the Church offers us. And so we’ll do as much as we can to share this with you. This is free to listen to, and always will be, but if you can help with a one time or a small monthly recurring donation, you’ll be making sure that we can continue this work of producing good Catholic content on a regular basis.

    Show notes

During the next year [50 episodes/weeks], join us as we explore the history, theology, and spirituality of the Mass. More than an academic exercise, this series is designed to deepen your knowledge of the Church’s liturgy in order to draw you closer to Our Lord at Mass.

Whether you are new to Catholic Tradition or have been attending the traditional Latin Mass for years, this series offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore the beauty and riches of Catholic liturgy while appreciating why Archbishop Lefebvre and the Society he founded has worked tirelessly for more than half-a-century to ensure its availability to Catholic faithful all over the world.

Is it Wrong to Be an Organ Donor? – Questions with Father #49 – Fr. Palko Jun 21, 2024
    Show notes

On this week’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we will be answering a fairly common listener question – and one we tackled very briefly in one of our earliest episodes years ago – What should Catholics think about organ donation? Fr. Ian Palko is back to discuss this topic which, like many others we’ve talked about recently, doesn’t have an easy, clear-cut answer. It seems, on the surface, like a great gift and an extraordinary act of charity to give someone an organ so they can live. But we’ll see it’s not so simple. This is a question that touches on morality, but also relies a great deal on prudence and circumstance. Thankfully, Father will guide us through these tricky points! We'd love your feedback on these podcasts! What do you like / not like, and what would you like us to add? podcast@sspx.org - - - - - - - - - - -

Why do Catholics profess Mary's Perpetual Virginity? - Questions with Father #48 - Fr. Pezzutti Jun 14, 2024
    Show notes

On this week’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we welcome again Fr. Shane Pezzutti to discuss what the Church professes concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a point of Catholic dogma that Our Lady’s virginity was perpetual, yet some Christians question this position based not only on conjecture, but ostensibly on the Bible. In this episode, we examine the question and explain, on the basis of Scripture and Tradition, why the Church states infallibly that Mary remained a virgin for her entire life. May is the perfect month to review some of these questions, not only to satisfy our reason, but to hopefully increase our devotion as well to this great privilege of our Blessed Mother.

Why do we believe Mary is Sinless? – Questions with Father #47 – Fr. Pezzutti Jun 07, 2024
    Show notes

This week on the SSPX Podcast, we’re happy to welcome back Fr. Shane Pezzutti who will guide us through some recent listener questions regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today we’ll look at the concept of her Immaculate Conception. Namely, how could it be that Mary was sinless? Do we have proof? Wasn’t Jesus the only one without sin and that this is precisely the reason God sent him to save us? May is the perfect month to review some of these questions, not only to satisfy our reason, but to hopefully increase our devotion as well to this great privilege of our Blessed Mother.
