Huntavore - AJ Fusco, Fork and Hose Co. Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

Hailing from Harrison, New York, AJ Fusco fights fires and handles emergencies as a professional first responder. When hes not battling flames, AJ has a found a niche in the fire company as the resident cook. Taking night course at the International Culinary Institute, AJ got an understanding about food prep, flavor profile, knifework, and making delicious out of ordinary. Something as wildgame foodies we could only wish we had. From course work to in the field, AJ interned at world class restaurants where he was able to gleen techniques from the industries finest. His liver mousse recipe was learned from April Bloomfield, how much more high level can you get? AJ took his talents back to the firehouse and started his side hussle of Fork and Hose Co. A blog where he would post dishes he created and served at the firehouse. His little venture grew and his talents landed him on Guy’s Grocery Games (a favorite in my household). While the show is silly, he was able to not only appear on, but win the prize. I believe he was going to buy his mom a dishwasher and donate the rest to a charity promoting first responder health. Fork and Hose Co. is now more than just a blog, but a whole community of firehouse chefs, showing off their talents and promoting firefighter health by helping make some healthy changes at dinner table. While AJ is not a sportsmen per say, he is a fan of venison and using the deer, nose to tail. Jump on over to @forkandhoseco for amazing ideas, and http://www.forkandhoseco.com/blog for recipes. Southern Ground Hunting - When Should You Call A Tracking Dog? Shane Simpson Knows! Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

This week we're joined by our buddy Shane Simpson, talking all about tracking dogs: when you should call one, & what to do after the shot. You may know Shane from one of his many ventures: Calling All Turkeys, Shane Simpson YouTube, or the subject of this podcast... the Callie Chronicles. Shane has compiled a ton of data from his past several seasons as a tracking dog handler, and today you'll get to hear some of them. We go over specific scenarios, and Shane gives us the data to support his answers about the decisions you should be making after the shot. If you've bowhunted long enough, you know that sometimes a shot can be less desirable. It's just going to happen eventually. The good news is that today most states allow the aid of a tracking dog for your best chances at recovery. Unfortunately, a lot of bowhunters don't know how accessible a good tracking dog actually is in their area, so they make the mistake of pushing a hit deer and many times not recovering them. This is a great episode to start out the season, hopefully to help you make the best decisions on your next move after arrowing a whitetail. Southern Ground Hunting is powered by Simple Cast.

Transition Wild - Mid Season Recap with Fred Bohm Oct 08, 2020
    Show notes

Today on the Transition Wild Podcast, I am joined by returning guest, Fred Bohm. It’s always a pleasure having Fred on the show to talk hunting and this episode was a lot of fun. During our discussion, Fred walks us through his season so far and all of the exciting animals he’s been chasing with a bow in hand throughout 2020. We start things off with his recent elk hunts in Wyoming and Colorado, where he was able to take a cow and bull on public land within about a week time frame, on back to back hunts. We then cover his big horn sheep hunt in Colorado and all of the ups and downs associated with that endeavor. Fred also walks us through his hunt in Hawaii earlier this year where he chased sheep, goats, and wild pigs. To round out the episode, we talk about what gear Fred has added to his setup, his photography, and what hunts he has coming down the pipe later this year. If you enjoy great photography and writing revolving around hunting, make sure to check out www.fredbohm.com. Transition Wild is Powered by Simplecast

    Land & Legacy - A 6.5 Year Old Buck Goes Down Oct 06, 2020
    Show notes

Follow along with us this week as we chat with Seth Harker who relives the story and multi-year hunt for a buck him and Trace call Hefty. Young bowhunter Trace Harker finally connects on this buck at just 25 yards. This podcast breaks down that journey of highs and lows. Several seasons ago, Trace Harker shot Hefty at 4.5 years old. Unfortunately, the arrow didn't penetrate but thankfully the buck survived the shot and lived to be chased again. Following the same path and pattern in 2020, Hefty started becoming a regular on the Cuddeback cameras. After seeing the pattern redevelop in the exact same location, Seth and Trace went in after this now 6.5-year-old buck. Walking the same path, Hefty was arrowed by a well-placed arrow. Trace was pumped and the buck was down quickly. Be sure to hear how Seth and Trace stayed with this deer for multiple years. There is some serious deer strategy talk as they take down another mature buck with a bow in early archery season. #ForLoveoftheLand Land & Legacy is Powered by Simplecast

Missouri Woods & Water - Hunting Nocturnal Bucks with Josh Honeycutt Oct 06, 2020
    Show notes

This time of year is a time when many of the bucks people are after seemingly turn nocturnal, which can be a problem when you are trying to hunt them. Today the guys have on outdoor writer Josh Honeycutt to discuss hunting nocturnal bucks. Josh has written several articles on the topic and has some great points for people to think about while they try hunting a buck that may appear nocturnal. Josh breaks down some things for us like dispelling the idea that some bucks are only nocturnal. Josh believes all bucks move during the day, but some much less than others. From there, we discuss things like getting closer to the bucks core area and figuring out travel patterns on bucks like that. This episode is full of great information for this time of year and hopefully can help with your plan of attack while pursuing a nocturnal buck. Missouri Woods & Water is Powered by Simplecast
