Huntavore - Camp Cook with Cast Iron Steve Jun 28, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of Huntavore, Cast Iron Steve is back again to chat about heavy metal cookware and specifically camp kitchen setups. We talk about making kitchens portable, a whole range of equipment we use or wished we used, how calories at the campsite don’t count, and our favorite camp meals and extra fancy desserts to be served fireside. Steve and Nick first break into what makes cast iron special. Durability, even heating especially on intense burners that some stoves have, ease of cleanup with a nice cooked in seasoning. Its hard to beat traditional cookware that pioneers themselves could have used on their expeditions. To beat the weight, carbon steel cookware offers many of the benefits on cast iron. The guys talk about how the griddles they use are carbon steel and could be helpful in making more pieces portable. Steve’s solution to their weight and space issue is to downsize the number of pieces. I'm sure for him it's as if you are asking which of his children have to stay home, but hard decisions have to be made. Nick continues to stay within the confines of the chuck box. The kitchen size can stay the same yet with some creativity, and continues to find ways to add items. A single 12” cast pan, a 12” teflon pan, steel pot, and aluminium dutch oven can all be stored and cover a wide range of dishes. Steve likes his dutch ovens at the campsite, but doesnt like the inconsistent nature of cooking over fire pits. He's not afraid to do it, but with the addition of a Charcoal table, he gains control, ease of cooking at countertop level, and being a native of Utah, fires are a real danger. Containing his coals for efficiency and safety makes the charcoal table a necessity. Steve also hits us with a favorite dessert of his being a cobbler out of a dutch oven. His twist, add a half a can of sprite to the dry cake mix. Tappecue Meat Probes Instagram: @tappecue Website: https://bit.ly/2NIr0Xj Coupon Code 10% off: HUNT10 Huntavore is Powered by Simplecast

Pennsylvania Woodsman - PA Bruiser Buck Profiles w/ Dustin Adam Jun 25, 2021
    Show notes

This week we kick off a new series breaking down stories from Pennsylvania hunters who found success harvesting mature buck this past season. With just shy of 1 million licensed hunters in PA, many of which are deer hunters, it can be a daunting task setting your sights on bucks that are 4 to 5 years of age or older. What can be more difficult is taking the step to pass a young buck. We encourage all hunters to be fair chase, ethical, and most importantly pursue what makes them happy! Every hunter needs to enjoy their time in Creation and harvest standards should be made by the individual. This series aims to provide hope to those who want to take the next step chasing big whitetail bucks but still remain skeptical of letting a younger bucks pass. This week, Dustin Adam shares his introduction into hunting and how over time he became infatuated with mature deer. Not only do we get to hear the story of his back-to-back bruiser’s taken with a bow, he shares his frustration of learning the patience needed to shoot big bucks. He also talks about the importance of passing on the hunting heritage with family and friends, and how he includes family during his time in the woods. Pennsylvania Woodsman is Powered by Simplecast

    N.F.C. - Predicting Deer Movement Jun 25, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan talks with Bill Thompson of Spartan Forge about how years worth of research and data can help you predict deer movement. For 30 years there have been studies and research taking place in North America tracking deer movement. Is it weather? The moon? Time of year? Pressure? All of this data has been captured and calculated and now algorithms have been tasks with reviewing this data with the goal of being able to forecast and predict when the deer will move in hopes of making selecting day to hunt more effective. This is a very interesting episode, and we get a bit technical when it comes to what the research and the studies have shown. Nine Finger Chronicles is Powered by Simplecast

Southern Ground Hunting - Ultimate Trail Camera Strategy For Finding Big Bucks In Summer, Fall, & Winter Jun 24, 2021
    Show notes

Thanks for listening to this week's episode of the Southern Ground Hunting podcast. One thing we've not covered in depth is the use of trail cameras. As we get into the heat of summer, many of you are utilizing trail cams to gain inventory of the bucks in your area. Maybe you find yourself wanting to do that, but just have no clue how to even start. One person that truly sticks out when it comes to trail cameras and how to use them to their full advantage is our friend Reese Johnson. Reese has figured out a system that works for him year in and year out, successfully locating really nice bucks in his area with the help of over 100 cameras in the woods at any given time. In this episode we hit on location of trail cameras, both during the summer & fall. He'll teach you how he adjusts the camera placements once the "shift" happens between seasons, as well as the patterns he's consistently seeing take place. Whether you're an avid trail camera user or someone just wanting to get started, we believe that you'll be able to to find something in this episode that could revolutionize your success. Ohio Huntsman - Father's Day 2021 Jun 23, 2021
    Show notes

This week on the show we do a tribute to all the dad's with a special Father's Day episode. We talk through some of our favorite hunting and fishing memories with our dad. We also tell a few stories about how our outdoor experiences with dad have shaped who we are as hunters. Jason and Jacob also share some experiences they have had with their kids in the outdoors. Our dad sacrificed many hunts to teach us how to hunt and more importantly let us fail in a way that taught us many lessons and for that, we will be forever grateful.
