Pennsylvania Woodsman - Managing Priorities Over Hunting Passion Jul 22, 2022
    Show notes

When this episode drops, there are only 71 days remaining before Pennsylvania's statewide archery season opens. Season preparation is in full swing for many diehards and the anticipation is creeping up. That also means the time of year is approaching when sportsmen and women are spending less time at home with family. How do you handle the balance between your outdoor passion and family time?

On this week's episode we chat with Josh Raley, a fellow Sportsmen's Empire contributor for the Wisconsin Sportsman and How to Hunt Deer Podcasts. Josh faces the same dilemma's as anyone. He is a husband, a father, and a faithful follower of the Lord, but also crazy about chasing whitetail deer and turkeys whenever humanly possible. Josh shares with us some of his journey which led him to where he is now and how those learning experiences have molded him into the hunter, father, husband, and believer that he is today. There is a lot left to be said from Josh, as he is no stranger to chasing whitetails across the country and we look forward to having him back for more deer hunting conversations!

Southern Ground - If You Could Teach A New Hunter One Skill, What Would You Teach Them? Jul 21, 2022
    Show notes

This week on the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast, the boys are discussing this question: "If you could teach a new hunter one skill, what would it be?"

We realize that all of the information discussed weekly in a podcast can be a little bit of info overload for a new hunter. What's THE most important thing? We know many new hunters have had that question, and we wanted to take this episode to discuss what we consider the most important skills to our hunting lifestyle.

Reading buck sign, woodsmanship, confidence in your setup, mental toughness... all things talked about in this episode.

Sheldon Grant is one of the founders of the group, and leads the way in design and marketing. Sheldon spends a lot of time literally at the drawing board! Doing Line-work for his day job, he does take advantage of his time off at his dad’s property scouting for deer. His interests include: Tequila, perk coffee, archery, hockey, campfires and music while his dislikes include snags, coyotes, wet cigars and haircuts. Chase Dreilich is also one of the founders of the group and one of the main editors of all content for their podcast, YouTube and social media. Being the family man of the group, he is often found with his partner and two kids taking in activities, or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. His likes include: big game, whiskey, cast iron, wood smoke, first frost’s while he strongly dislikes: mosquitos, whitecaps, over cooked steak and bug spray. Dan and the boys have a great time with this episode as they pair up to co-host and co-record for both podcasts. This is an episiode like you haven’t heard before.

How to Hunt Deer - Rethinking Bow Sights - Adjustable Red Dot Jul 21, 2022
    Show notes

Bowhunters across the country have dusted off the bows to get dialed in for the upcoming archery season. Summer archery practice is a vital part of fall hunting success. If you’re like many bowhunters, there are parts of your gear you’re considering swapping out for one reason or another. One piece of gear Josh recently swapped out is his sight. The old peep and pin setup provided a cluttered sight picture, didn’t perform well in low light, and required a somewhat unnatural feel when aiming. Enter the Adjustable Red Dot sight.

The Adjustable Red Dot sight system provides faster target acquisition, easily adjusts for yardage, and eliminates the need for a peep altogether. For Josh, it’s just made shooting fun again! You have to see the difference to fully understand it. And once you shoot one, you’ll never want to go back. Check them out at www.adjustablereddot.com.

Average Conservationist - Leave No Trace w/ Neil Keown Jul 20, 2022
    Show notes

This week on The Average Conservationist Podcast, Marcus is joined by Neil Keown from Sawback Technologies. Sawback Technologies is a geo-data collection service based out of Calgary, Alberta. The guys kick off the conversation talking about Sawback and the path that led Neil to starting his own company. Sawback uses an old technology in a new way to help oil and gas companies, construction companies and the agricultural industry to survey land and what's under it to help minimize potential incidents when digging. Neil was introduced to the outdoors later in life and has since cannonballed into both fishing and hunting. Neil knew that when he started Sawback he'd have an opportunity to use his company to help wildlife and lessen his overall footprint while doing so. This is a great conversation full of great information as it pertains to surveying our wild places.

Island Paul is in full effect this week enjoying some RnR down south. Paul took a fishing trip to Lake Erie last week in Port Clinton and was very successful! Andrew turned a year older, and got himself another (probable) torn meniscus in his “good knee”! YEA to getting old! The archery hike is complete, and congrats to Justin Ross and his crew for a spectacular event!! We are closing in on 2 months to opening day for deer archery season, and even closer to dove season. N.F.C. - Knocking On Doors For Big Bucks Jul 20, 2022
    Show notes

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan talks with Jerry Rude about loosing a piece of hunting property forcing him to ask permission on new ground. He was happy with what he found. Jerry explains that just a couple months before the season started he lost a property that he had been hunting for several years. This led him to looking for property closer to home. What started as an e-scouting mission, led him to knock on a door of of a property that had some potential. He was surprised when the land owner told him "yes". Well, it was all too good to be true, that particular property was over run with pressure most months of the year.

This forced him to go back to the drawing board and once again he started digital scouting. He located a property that looked pretty good. After a couple weeks of trying to get a hold of the land owner, he finally got him on the phone and permission was granted. At first, the property didn't produce much action and Jerry was worried that he would have to start over. But, after a couple of trail camera card pulls and some sightings from the stand Jerry realized that he landed in the middle of a honey-hole.
