Antler Up - Aggressive Deer Hunting Strategies & Mindset w/ Wade Childs Mar 01, 2023
    Show notes

Hey everyone, welcome to episode 162 of the Antler Up Podcast!

On this week's episode Dimitri and I were joined by Michigan native Wade Childs. This episode was a blast to record! I heard some awesome hunting stories from mutual friend Andrew Blair and I knew immediately I wanted to get Wade on the show! This has a lot of great information in it regarding whitetails, specifically hunting more aggressive!

To start this episode off we chat about all the different states that Wade got to hunt and the different terrain, habitat and challenges these states offered. From his home state of MI, MO, IL and IA. From here, Wade discusses how he uses an aggressive mindset/strategy to combat the pressure he is seeing in the woods from other hunters. We also talk about what sign he likes to prioritize when finding “the spot” to hunt. .

Wade had another awesome season by killing a great buck in both IA and IL, while also filling 4 doe tags in MI. I loved hearing some of the key tactics that Wade has adopted over the years bowhunting. A few things stood out to me about his aggressive style and I hope some do for you as well! You will also hear how much stock Wade puts into his postseason scouting, which is always a fun topic to discuss! Enjoy this fun episode!

Thanks again for all the support and best of luck out there and Antler Up!

Walter has spent the last 30 years studying Loons in the upper regions of the midwest, specifically Wisconsin and most recently Minnesota. The loon population continues to decline in these areas and Walter and his team are researching the cause and how to potentially right the ship going forward. Recently, Walter and his team lost some funding for the research being done in Minnesota and need some help in order to fully staff their efforts and attack this research with the proper amount of people. Head over to loonproject.org to learn more about what Walter and his team are doing as well and to donate to their research efforts.

Wisconsin Sportsman - Scouting for Next Year's Buck Now w/Paul Annear Feb 28, 2023
    Show notes

The next two months are arguably the best time to get in some post-season scouting for whitetails. Antlers are dropping, snow is melting revealing even more sign from last fall, and the woods are as open as they'll be all year. These conditions create a real opportunity for whitetail hunters to maximize their time in the field. Couple these conditions with the fact that bumping deer this time of year will have no impact on your hunting next fall, and post-season scouting is a no brainer.

This week on the Wisconsin Sportsman Podcast, Josh talks with outdoor writer and Wisconsin native Paul Annear about post-season scouting for whitetails. Paul spends tons of time each winter scouting for deer and scooping up shed antlers, putting the pieces together for next year's fall game plan. In this episode, Paul shares a bit about his background, what makes scouting this time of year invaluable, how to read and weigh winter sign, and much more. This is one you don't want to miss!

Western Rookie - Getting More Western Tags Feb 28, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of The Western Rookie Podcast, Dan and Brian have Ryan Stieg on to talk about getting more tags each season.

Ryan grew up in the flat land like both Dan and Brian, but like the hosts, caught the western bug during college and started piecing together how to get out west as much as possible. Ryan has had incredible success with North Dakota’s second chance draw to get rifle Whitetail Buck tags in underrated units while building points and using his bow tag to chase Mule Deer each fall in the badlands. Ryan has taken this same strategy to Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado to show it is possible to have success on Elk, Mule Deer, and Antelope with easier-to-draw tags if you’re willing to put in the work.

Oklahoma Outdoors - Never to Early to Talk Turkeys Feb 27, 2023
    Show notes

Rain is falling, temperatures are rising, and the days are getting long. All of these things can only mean one thing, spring is here! This week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John is going all in on spring turkeys. Fellow Sportsmens Empire podcaster and National Wild Turkey Federation employee Paul Campbell joins John this week to talk about the excitement of chasing spring gobblers. The passion Paul has for these birds is more than evident as he and John cover a wide variety of topics surrounding one of America's favorite game birds.

Paul and John share one thing in common, neither of them are any good at using a mouth call, one of the most popular turkey calls on the market. Paul does a great job of discussing mouth call alternatives, and why you might use one over the other. The guys also talk about locator calls and when a certain one might be appropriate. Paul and John talk a little bit about the different habitat types that turkeys live in, and how different calling turkeys in deep timber is compared to the open plains. Over all, this is one of the best darn turkey talks the Oklahoma Outdoors podcast has ever had.

[UNCENSORED] - Good Times at GAOS, Cell Cam Chatter, and a Wienermobile Thief Feb 27, 2023
    Show notes

In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, the gang is back together once again and things are getting back to normal after a busy trade show season. How did our second weekend at GAOS go? We had a great time visiting with customers and partners like Beau Martonik, the boys at O2 Podcast, and the Houndsmen XP crew. Did Arica visit with Shim or not? She did meet Wayne LaPierre, CEO and Executive VP of the NRA. Dan geeks out on his new AR build after going around the show.

The team is busy cleaning up the shop and shifting gears into spring activities. Did someone steal the catalytic converter off of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile?? Arica steals the show to dispel a major myth about the use of cellular trail cameras. We talk a little more about many of the misconceptions about cellular data and cell cams and share some insights on how trappers are using trail cams.

[UNCENSORED] by GoWild kicks off your week with shameful nonsense, inappropriate convictions, and unfiltered tales from the woods, waters and whatevers. [UNCENSORED] is a behind the scenes look at our adventures, failures, wins, embarrassing moments at trade shows, hilarious tales from the warehouse, and a good rant or three about the most recent tyranny from the Dark Lord of the Sith himself.

The show launches every Monday morning. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.

Huntavore - Emperor’s Table Series: Andrew Muntz & Paul Campbell Feb 27, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of Huntavore, Nick calls up Andrew Muntz and Paul Campbell of the Ohio Outdoors Podcast. This duo is a great pairing, Andrew, being a whitetail guy and Paul, a Turkey fanatic. Nick does a fly by on how their 2023 seasons went and their follow up celebration meal, that may surprise you. In addition Nick gets into the details of what each of the guys would bring to the Emperor’s Table, where Paul does a culinary flex on his Turkey dish. All this and a bunch of fun on this episode of Huntavore.

Andrew and Paul are hosts of the Ohio Outdoors Podcast, and Paul being the host of How to Hunt Turkeys, both airing on Sportsmens Empire. Andrew is an accomplished bowhunter who loves nothing better than chasing whitetails. Paul, is a turkey guy through and through, and with the help from Andrew, got back into chasing deer. Both guys were successful this year in the deer woods. Andrew went through many ups and downs, close encounters and near misses that made for an epic tale of getting his Thanksgiving buck. For his celebration meal, Andrew went beyond just utilizing, and donated that buck to Farmers & Hunters feeding the Hungry. Paul was able to harvest 3 deer in 18 minutes giving him a load of venison right now. His go to was backstrap done up in the smoker, paired with a hand chopped chimichurri. Now to the Emperor's Table, Paul goes for the fences with a Citrus Brined Smoked Wild Turkey, and Andrew submits another fried walleye submission, using his wife’s breading mix and Paul’s tartar sauce.
