Pennsylvania Woodsman - Caught Between Reflection and Preparation of Bear Season Jun 05, 2024
    Show notes

On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Mitch is riding solo discussing what the month of June looks like amidst hunting season. June is a tough month; it's not that he doesn't want to be immersed with preparation for next year, but at the moment it's difficult to devote the time. It's a month to be caught between reflecting on a successful season and how to prepare for the next. Fortunately, 2023 was very successful from the standpoint of filling tags, so how can it get much better?

With life strings pulling in multiple directions, Mitch takes the time to list out some personal hunting goals he has, chooses which ones he plans to attack this year, and how he plans to stay focused on them while also being present at home. Bear hunting has become a priority in fall, and he discusses the areas he has room for improving his scouting and successful bear hunting. He reads through some of his notes he took from last season and discusses the changes he plans to make E-Scouting, road-scouting, trail cameras, and pure boot leather covering ground. This gradual build-up during the summer months will hopefully lay a foundation for a successful fall. Lastly, he touches on his weapon of choice - flintlock muzzleloader. He discusses a concept to institute in a summer practice scheme which includes load development and off-hand shooting to bring to the field this fall.

    N.F.C. - Death Metal, Youth Softball, and E-Scouting Jun 05, 2024
    Show notes

On his episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan is once again joined by the one and only Tony Peterson to discuss their crazy lives, and e-scouting. Not sure why Tony keeps coming back as a guest but he keeps "YES". This is great, because Dan can't find anyone else to hop on the show. The guys talks about Tonys mental state and how it is affected by the hate-filled death metal he listens to, how horrible of a softball coach he is, and what it's like being managed by someone who is younger and less experienced than him. Dan expresses his opinion on Mark Kenyon's facial hair, practicing baseball with his son, and how many dead bodies they each have seen.

Then, for the last 20 mins of the show the guys take a deep dive in to how they approach e-scouting public public for out-of-state hunts. Anytime Tony hops on the show, it is full of randomness, exciting topics, and complete nonsense . Enjoy and Share!!

Hunt Detail - So You Drew An Elk Tag: Backcountry Food & Sleep Systems Jun 05, 2024
    Show notes

Your hunt systems are those aspects of your preparation that should simply work on their own with little thought or energy. Examples from the previous week's episodes have been: Meat Care, First Aid, Clothing and Water Systems. These are important because time is so limited when you have traveled from out of state. A poor hunt system for some aspect of your hunt can cause headaches or cut your hunt short. In today's episode, Jacob is continuing the discussion by sharing his food and sleep system for his treks west for elk.

Wisconsin Sportsman - Planning a Great Fishing Trip Jun 04, 2024
    Show notes

June is here and hopefully by now that means you've already dusted off the rods, reels, and tackle boxes, greased up the axles on the boat trailer and charged up the batteries. If you haven't we need to have a serious talk, and if you have, what did you forget on that first trip of the year? What did you have to pop into a bait shop for? What could you have just simply done better? As fun as they can be, fishing trips can also be a source of nightmares if not done properly. That's why this week, we're talking all about how to plan and prepare for a fishing trip!

This week, Andrew Wolfe returns to the show after a big tournament up in Door County and Pierce is also coming off of a fishing trip not too far away from where Andrew was. After a week of chasing big smallies, the guys thought it would be a good idea to share their tips on how they prepare for a fishing trip. In this episode, the guys break down how they choose a place to go whether it be based off of a species, area, skill they hope to hone, or historic body of water, and then break down how they use their resources to figure out what the fish are doing before they go. Then the guys talk about gear essentials, what they never leave home without, what's overrated, and finally, how they prepare mentally for a trip. This episode is a fun one with plenty of entertaining tangents, but even more good info. Enjoy!
