    N.F.C. - Big Buck B.S. Session Jul 31, 2024
    Show notes

In this episode, Dan Johnson and Jeremy Dinsmore discuss the challenges of balancing hunting with family and work responsibilities. They share personal stories and insights about being busy parents and how it affects their hunting pursuits. They also talk about the importance of setting up trail cameras and mock scrapes to gather information about deer movement and behavior. The conversation highlights the anticipation and excitement of the upcoming hunting season. In this conversation, Jeremy and Dan discuss their experiences with trail cameras and the challenges of predicting deer behavior. They talk about the difficulty of hunting older age whitetail bucks and the importance of understanding their patterns. They also discuss the impact of changing food sources and betting areas on deer movement. The conversation touches on the trend of being too mobile while hunting and the importance of patience and staying in one spot. They also talk about the correlation between rain and deer antler growth. Finally, they discuss the challenges of running a hunting podcast and the importance of content quality over social media following.

    Takeaways:

    • Balancing hunting with family and work responsibilities can be challenging, but it's important to prioritize and make time for both.
    • Setting up trail cameras and mock scrapes can provide valuable information about deer movement and behavior.
    • The period between August and October is a crucial time for scouting and preparing for the upcoming hunting season.
    • Deer rely on scent communication, so creating scent stations like mock scrapes can attract and hold their attention.
    • The anticipation and excitement of the hunting season can make all the hard work and sacrifices worthwhile. Predicting the behavior of older age whitetail bucks is as difficult as knowing what you will do in the next minute.
    • Changing food sources and betting areas can greatly impact deer movement.
    • Being too mobile while hunting can be detrimental, and it's important to have patience and stay in one spot.
    • There is a correlation between consistent rain throughout the summer and larger deer antlers.
    • Content quality is more important than social media following in the hunting podcast industry.

He also highlights the significance of prioritizing and being organized in order to make the most of hunting opportunities. Joe shares the mistakes he tries to avoid, such as hoping for the best instead of fixing potential issues. He also discusses the role of physical fitness in hunting success and sets a goal to hunt with traditional equipment this season.

Hunt Detail - Good News for Hunters that Like Bad News Jul 31, 2024
    Show notes

If you hunt other states, the amount of information available to you in order to plan your hunt has increased significantly over the past decade. From YouTube, Podcasts, Forums, Pay Wall Information, Facebook Groups, etc. So, where will this expand to in the next 5 to 10 years? How will it evolve and spread from other states that you hunt, to your state, your county, and eventually your own backyard? If you think that the availability of information on other states has been helpful, just wait until you have individuals and companies chatting up your favorite piece of public land and exposing your own hunting spots...all in the name of "helping others" and "mentoring".

Missouri Woods & Water - Can You Start Hunting For $1000 Bucks? Jul 30, 2024
    Show notes

This week on the Missouri Woods & Water Podcast Nate & Micah tackle the topic of becoming a new hunter. To begin the show, for about the first 15-20 minutes, we talk about a subject no man likes to go through, saying goodbye to a great dog. Micah had to do that a few days back so we spent a little time on that. Then we get into the subject and both go through the list of items that we think someone would need to start rifle hunting for $1000 bucks or less. This person we are putting the list together for has nothing to start and no one to help them, a true ground zero scenario. Let us know what you think of our lists and what you would choose differently. Thanks for listening!

Wisconsin Sportsman - Getting Hooked on the W.I.F.A with Josh Beaman & Bradley Gumtow Jul 30, 2024
    Show notes

High school is a developmental time, you make some of your closest friends, you try new things, you learn a lot, and hopefully, you get to spend plenty of time fishing outside of school. But what if fishing could actually be part of school? Well thanks to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association, that can be true!

This week we're talking all about the WIFA with Appleton North Coach, Josh Beaman, and Neenah Coach & WIFA Board Member, Bradley Gumtow. The guys kick things off hearing about how they got involved with WIFA, how tournaments work, the experiences that kids are able to have, the number of high schoolers who have achieved Master Angler Status, and of course, how you or your student can get involved by joining their school's club or starting one of their own! If this doesn't make you want to get out on the water, we're not sure what else will!

Also, you'll hear in the episode that after a terrible accident, one of the WIFA students, Brett Jedwabny has wound up in critical condition and is fighting for his life at the Milwaukee Children's Hospital. To raise money to support Brett and his family during this difficult time, the WIFA has organized the, "A Cast for Hope" fishing tournament that is open to anyone to participate through the Fish Donkey App. It's $25 to enter and 100% of the proceeds go to Brett & his family.

You can also support Brett by donating to the GoFundMe set up in Brett's name by following this link: https://gofund.me/6f07b407

Wishing you a strong and speedy recovery, Brett!
