Stars-Mavs on brink, Rangers on hold and did Mike Zimmer take a shot at DQ? May 30, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss [4:45] the Stars and Mavs closing in on the finals in their respective sports. David notes that no NBA team has ever blown a 3-0 lead at any level of the playoffs, but Kevin says the absence of Dereck Lively II in the paint certainly has encouraged the Wolves’ Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony-Towns, who outplayed Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Game 4. The Mavs need to close out Game 5 in Minneapolis, David said, to give Lively and Luka time to recuperate. [18:40] Evan goes over the Rangers’ weird week, and Kevin proposes a blockbuster trade. [43:08] David tells us what OTAs really mean and explains what Mike Zimmer meant when discussing the rehabilitation of Mazi Smith’s career and Dan Quinn’s hand in it.

Mavs, Stars make history, Rangers in reverse and the price of Dak Prescott May 23, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss [4:30] the conference finals run by the Mavs and Stars, the first time in Dallas history both have made it that far simultaneously. Kevin likes the Stars’ chances of advancing better than the Mavs’. David acknowledges the Mavs as underdogs but believes their defense and the presence of Luka Doncic, the best player in the series, makes it a toss-up. [25:59] Evan tells us what the problem is with the Rangers’ lineup (Hint: absence of the regular third baseman) and whether he thinks they’ll ever slug again. [42:09] And Kevin and David look over Jared Goff’s new contract and what it means for the Cowboys’ negotiations with Dak Prescott.

Stars dominate, Mavs flop, Rangers can’t hit and the GOAT takes a shot at Dak May 14, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, [2:15] Evan Grant and David Moore discuss the twin second-round series of the Stars and Mavs: One team on the verge of making its conference finals after another dominating win; the other blowing a chance to do the same with an inexcusable loss. Not only was the Mavs’ free throw shooting horrendous, their superstars, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, couldn’t match the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with their scores combined. [21:08] Evan tells us what’s up with the Rangers’ lineup and Adolis Garcia in particular. And the guys discuss [41:42] Tom Brady’s curious shot at Dak Prescott in discussing his upcoming role as analyst for Fox’s opening game between the Cowboys and Browns.

Mavs and Stars advance, Rangers hitting and we’re still talking Cowboys draft May 08, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore [4:30] talk about the Mavs and Stars each advancing to the second round for the first time in 21 years. Kevin says Jake Oettinger will have to step up from his regular-season performance against Colorado in which he gave up an average of five goals a game. David tells us when the Mavs will miss Maxi Kleber the most. [31:40] The guys also discuss the transformation of Kyrie Irving, who seems happy in Dallas and is playing like it. Evan says as Corey Seager goes, so goes the Rangers’ offense. And David [51:10] tells us why Will McClay doesn’t always draft players from the SEC or Big Ten, but it’s a tiebreaker.

Cowboys’ draft, Rangers’ tough April and Mavs/Stars playoffs May 01, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss [1:12] the Cowboys’ draft and why, why, why they didn’t take a running back. David provides insight into the Cowboys’ thinking and what they got right, namely, the offensive line, and what the signing of Zeke Elliott means. [24:45] Evan says the Rangers did about as well as could be expected for a tough April schedule, while Kevin argues that, if they’d played well, they could have distanced themselves from the competition. [44:55] Kevin and David analyze the difference in the Clippers when Kawhi Leonard plays or doesn’t, and the impact it has on the Mavs in the playoffs. And the guys reveal the depth of their hockey knowledge in discussing the Stars’ ability to square their playoff series with Vegas at 2-2.

Rangers can’t hit, Mavs punch back and our very own NFL mock draft Apr 25, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore [15:42] do their own three-round mock draft, and Evan, initially the reluctant drafter, goes all in with a trade netting three third-rounders. David tells us if our picks are on the Cowboys’ radar (Hint: Yes). Kevin simultaneously makes his picks and criticizes them. [2:07] Evan breaks down the Rangers’ hitting problems now that Bruce Bochy has finally pieced together a bullpen. [43:56] Kevin and David discuss the ‘90s style of basketball the Mavs played in squaring their series with the Clippers and stealing home-court advantage, while Jake Oettinger’s problems in goal for the Stars in Game 1 allowed the Golden Knights to do the same. And it’s another bad blazer for Scottie Scheffler.

Rangers’ bullpen, tone-deaf Cowboys, Mavs’ potential and Scottie’s beer run Apr 17, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss the big events in Dallas this spring. [5:45] Evan tells us what to expect of Jack Leiter in his start Thursday as well as whether Jose Leclerc’s problems are mechanical or mental. [28:45] David says he’s never seen Jerry Jones so tone-deaf regarding fans’ disappointment in the Cowboys. [50:24] Kevin says anything less than a Western Conference finals run for the Mavs should be considered a disappointment, which tells you how far they’ve come in the last two months, and the guys marvel over Scottie Scheffler’s second Masters win, his footwork and the fact that he made it to the Inwood Tavern still wearing his green jacket Sunday.

Josh Jung’s luck, a pile of potpourri and no Zeke for you Apr 03, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss [2:06] another debilitating injury for Rangers third baseman Josh Jung, who’s probably out for two months, and the repercussions for the lineup. Evan also tells us about the future of Jose Leclerc at closer and the uptick on the bases otherwise. David discusses [17:09] the possibility of a reunion with Zeke Elliott (Hint: not so much), and Kevin gives us his favorite pick for the Cowboys at RB. [33:45] The guys give Caitlin Clark props as the greatest female player ever and one of the greatest shooters, male or female. There’s also discussion of Rashee Rice’s legal entanglements, SMU’s new basketball coach and the improbable rise of the Mavs, just in time for the playoffs.

Wyatt Langford, a new Rangers pitcher, NCAA brackets and potpourri! Mar 22, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant discuss [6:13] Wyatt Langford’s impact on the Rangers’ thinking this spring. They’ll slug even more than they did last year, which might make up for not signing Jordan Montgomery. They also analyze exactly what role new signee Michael Lorenzen will fill this season. [35:45] Kevin and Evan predict Caitlin Clark will win the NCAAs on the women’s side and Kevin is too chicken to guess outside the chalk on the men’s side. [49:51] In the potpourri segment, they also talk about the pluses and minuses of the local owners, the Cowboys’ free agent losses and the problems it makes for their draft, as well as how, of all things, Mavs guard Kyrie Irving has been about as good as anyone could have hoped.

Cowboys and Rangers free agents, plus what Jason Kidd has to do to keep his job Mar 13, 2024
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss [1:02] the free agent market with the Cowboys as well as the Rangers. Kevin says if the Cowboys end up replacing two offensive linemen, the OL will be the biggest point of concern on the team this fall. [25:40] Evan tells us about his conversation with Scott Boras and his appeal to Ray Davis to pay for a starting pitcher like, say, Jordan Montgomery. The guys also discuss the sensation caused by Wyatt Langford, making the biggest splash at Rangers’ spring training since Pete Incaviglia hit a ball through a fence in Florida. [55:35] And Kevin and David try to make sense of where the Mavs are and what Kidd must do with the uncertainty of what a new owner may or may not do. Bonus: What’s Mark Cuban’s legacy as owner?
