    309. Formula-E Nissan Driver Sebastian Buemi Jul 21, 2021

    Meet Sébastien Buemi, longtime championship professional racing driver, who competes in the FIA Formula E Championship with Nissan e.dams. Buemi has raced FIA Formula E Championship with e.dams Renault (now Nissan e.dams) since 2014. He won the Formula E Championship in 2015-16. He competed for Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One from 2009 to 2011. After leaving Formula One, Buemi became a reserve driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso's sister team, Red Bull Racing from 2012 to 2013. He returned to Red Bull Racing in 2019 as a reserve driver. Buemi has competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing (formerly Toyota Racing) since 2012. He became the 2014 World Endurance Champion in the LMP1 class.[2] He won both the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans and, subsequently, the 2018-19 WEC Championship. He also won the 2019 and 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans. In this episode, Buemi discusses the difference between racing an electric car and a fuel-injected automobile. He also discussed the responsibility of Nissan and other companies in the Formula E circuit to use the technology they invent to win the championship and implement that tech into consumer vehicles. As part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050, Nissan intends to electrify all-new Nissan vehicle offerings by the early 2030s in key markets. Nissan aims to bring its expertise in transferring knowledge and technology between the race track and road for better electric vehicles for customers. Finally, Buemi discussed Formula E's Fan Boost, and how interacting with fans both in person and via social media can help garner votes which in turn can give him an "energy boost" during a race.     308. Former Indy 500 Champion / Formula E Broadcaster Dario Franchitti Jul 14, 2021

    This episode is the first since episode 238 to feature an in-person interview. Dario Franchitti was in Brooklyn, NY to call the 2021 New York #EPrix for Season 7 of Formula E. Frequent episodes of this podcast have been about this sport. Franchitti is a four-time IndyCar Series champion (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011), a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 (2007, 2010, 2012). After his retirement, he joined the broadcast team for Formula E alongside play-by-play man Jack Nicholls, who came on this podcast exactly 100 episodes ago (episode 208). This week also saw former Sports with Friends guest Sir Richard Branson actually reach space. The beginning of this episode revisits a portion of his previous appearance (Episode 138) where he not only discusses his adoration of Formula-E but also his interest in space travel.     Amber Wilson grew to radio fame hosting morning drive on 790am The Ticket in Miami Florida for nearly 5 years. Wilson's roller-coaster story is certainly one to behold. Her rise in the sports media field to a successful law practice must be heard to believe. She also faced great challenges just as the Miami show was taking off, being diagnosed, and beating breast cancer. She currently continues to practice law and hosts nationally on ESPN Radio. This episode talks about fighting stereotypes in a male-dominated industry and facing adversity. She also mentioned social media and how it often helped her through tough times.     Former Washington quarterback Joe Theismann is also an author, speaker, and broadcaster. He joined the podcast from Florida where he will be hosting the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. Theismann spent 12 seasons with the Washington Redskins (later known as the Washington Football Team), where he was a two-time Pro Bowler and helped the team to consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl XVII over the Miami Dolphins and losing Super Bowl XVIII. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame via his career at Notre Dame, is also famous for the memorable 1985 Monday night football injury suffered while being sacked by New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Enormously accomplished, his new book, "How to be a Champion Every Day" includes stories that amaze and delight audiences in the interviews and speeches that occupy his time, alongside golf with his celebrity friends. In this episode, he talks about the change in the WFT franchise name, the difference between the Super Bowl when he played to it now. He also addressed quarterback Alex Smith's similar leg injury.     Radio and TV star John "JJ" Jastremski is another Syracuse alum to join the podcast. After graduating from Syracuse, JJ won a WFAN "Fantasy Phenom" contest and parlayed it into a full-time WFAN host and Sportsnet New York contributor. Then, in 2020, Bill Simmons hired JJ to join his podcast network and leave radio. Jastremski now hosts a podcast called New York, New York. In this episode, the guys talk about how their careers differed but also how they intersected. JJ explains the story of how he left a dream job for a new challenge. The guys also discuss Jastremski's love of the Miami Dolphins and Dan Marino.

    Broadcasting icon Jim Lampley joins the show to discuss his new play-by-play venture with a streaming app called Triller. Lampley was to begin his new role on June 19th, but Teófimo López tested positive for Covid-19, so his fight against George Kambosos has been delayed to August 14th. This podcast was recorded before López tested positive. After more than three decades in network television, and nearly 30 of them as host of HBO's flagship World Championship Boxing franchise, Jim Lampley is one of America's most renowned and respected broadcasters and journalists. He was the host and blow-by-blow announcer for all HBO Boxing telecasts from March 1988 until December 2018 and has called some the biggest fights in the history of the sport. In this episode, Lampley details his departure from HBO, his being the first-ever host of the first-ever 24-hour sports talk radio station WFAN in 1987, his role in the USFL and his dealings with former President Donald Trump, and his belief that podcasts are the future of the spoken word. He also details why he is not on social media.

The CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils, Dignitas E-Sports team, and more is the author of a new book entitled, "Be Where Your Feet Are." O'Neil talked about the unique challenges that lead to his idea of writing this book, and the message he hopes to get across. The episode also featured an in-depth conversation on the Sixers' place in the Philadelphia sports landscape. He also discussed the unique fan base for the New Jersey Devils, and where he sees both franchises going. (Note, this episode was recording during the Sixer's Spring 2021 NBA Playoff run) Previously, O'Neil was the President of Madison Square Garden.     Longtime sports executive Mike McCarthy joins the show this week. McCarthy is currently the General Manager of the Marquee Sports Network, a new regional sports network based out of Chicago, owned in part by the Chicago Cubs. McCarthy started his career at Madison Square Garden, starting as an intern and ascending all the way to President of MSG Network. He was also the CEO of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and COO of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks. In this episode, McCarthy spoke about the new Cubs' RSN. He addressed non-play-by-play programming for RSNs. The issues with cord-cutting as RSNs also was a topic. McCarthy also discussed the relationship that Chicago fans have with their beloved Cubs.

    Long-time baseball insider returns to the podcast. He was on Episode 63 back in 2016. Jon works for both the MLB Network and the NHL Network and appears on FOX Sports' properties. He is one of the preeminent baseball insiders in the industry today. This episode began with the story of how he and his family dealt with the still-ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. They also discuss the differences between covering baseball and hockey. The last half of the episode is about the state of baseball in 2021. At the time of this recording, there were already six no-hitters in baseball. Strikeouts are happening at a fever pitch.     Commemorating 300 episodes of this podcast, this one is presented as a documentary. It runs through the history of this podcast, which started in Spring 2015. It was originally 2 podcasts, and then a tragedy lead to it being rebranded. Hear from over 50 of the 300 guests that came on during the show's first 300 episodes. Guests range from Ken Griffey Jr. to Sir Richard Branson to Tiger Woods to Jayson Stark to Martin Brodeur. Hear from Eli Manning, who made five appearances on the show, which is second only to LaTroy Hawkins, who came on six times. For new listeners, this is a great "jumping on" point.
